Okay so I have to be honest and say that besides looking out for some occasional info on this movie (like cast members), I really wasn't searching the web for info.
But I just stumbled on the "The hobbit" thread on Neogaf and HOLY FUCK did I miss a lot of info already.

Appearently there's already a behind the scenes production video series on youtube (up to part 3 at the moment).

Can only find part 2 and 3 at the moment;

Part 2;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqk5c_i7LQU&feature...

Part 3;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t47TXEi0No0

And say hello to the Dwarfs:

It's weird, I don't know what to think of the dwarfs yet, one second they look awesome and another second I think something looks off but I can't tell you what looks off.
Maybe I need to see some footage of them first...

Anyway let the drooling/discussion begin!

Since The Lord of the Rings ended, going to the cinema for me has felt less like an actual event/experience and more like just an activity. I watched the last Harry Potter yesterday - which was pretty good I have to say - but it didn't feel emotional enough; there was less of a sense of it being the end of this epic journey, which is exactly what I felt when Return of the King finished and the credits started rolling.

So thank goodness Jackson's returning with The Hobbit. As an absolute Tolkien fanatic, to say I'm excited is an understatement.

I feel kind of the same. I'm going to get the extended editions on blu ray this weekend and I plan on doing another glorious viewing of the movies! Although Book purists always have something to whine about (Although I do miss Tom Bombadil/hobbiton being taken over by Saruman) I do get that Jackson had to cut some parts out.

I hope they'll do a back to back viewing action in the cinema's again once part 2 comes out. Would really love to attend to that!

Can't freaking wait!

Ps. (Kind of funny, If I see that picture of the dwarfs from the corner of my eyes; Thorin looks like a Klingon )

Keep in mind that The Hobbit is written as a kid's book, not making it any less awesome (and seeing the production videos reassures us this is not a kids movie ) coh mpared to the LOTR which is just an mature story of EPIC proportions..

You should give them a read, The Hobbit is really easy to blast through in one sitting and you can probably get it for about 10-15 bucks paperback version...

And while we're talking about books;

From NEOGAF;
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3032313...

The Art of the Hobbit 75th Anniversary Slipcased edition
To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit, a sumptuous full colour art book containing the complete collection of more than 100 Hobbit sketches, drawings, paintings and maps by J.R.R. Tolkien.

When J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit, he was already an accomplished amateur artist, and drew illustrations for his book while it was still in manuscript. The Hobbit as first printed had ten black and white pictures, two maps, and binding and dust-jacket designs by its author. Later, Tolkien also painted five scenes for colour plates which are some of his best work. His illustrations for The Hobbit add an extra dimension to that remarkable book, and have long influenced how readers imagine Bilbo Baggins and his world. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit, the complete artwork created by the author for his story has been collected in The Art of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Including related pictures, more than one hundred sketches, drawings, paintings, maps, and plans are presented here, preliminary and alternate versions and experimental designs as well as finished art. Some of these images are now published for the first time, and others for the first time in colour. Fresh digital scans from the Bodleian Libraries in Oxford and Marquette University in Wisconsin allow Tolkien’s Hobbit pictures to be seen more vividly than ever before. The Art of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien has been written and edited by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull, two of the leading experts on Tolkien and authors of the acclaimed J.R.R. Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator, The Lord of the Rings: A Reader’s Companion, and The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide.

True, but it definitely won't be filmed as a kid's film; expect Jackson to spice things up a bit.

For some reason I didn't get excited like the first time I saw the first LOTR teaser trailer, that was magical.

This one looks almost too similar to LOTR movies.

I guess I wanted Del Toro version so much.

Still one of the most anticipated movies for me next year.

Well it is a prequel to the LotR movies, so I'd be a bit disappointed if it wasn't similar. It was always going to have a familiar feel to it which, to fanatics such as myself, is a fantastic thing.

Meh, some wanted Del Toro; I wanted good ol' Peter Jackson back doing what he does best. :D

It's gonna be epic, can't wait!

Thing is that is a different book even if they share the same topic.

The Hobbit is very different in tone that's why I wanted a different loo to it, also Del Toro said it was going to be more colorfull, this trailer make it seem like a LOTR movie, I don't know if Im explaining myself here.

Del Toro is still credited though so Im expecting his design of Smaug at least.

Yeah the hobbit is different indeed, it was written as a children's book. Unlike LOTR, which was just written as an epic story

It's more of a children's book than LotR is, sure, and it is more 'colourful' to an extent. But it's still Middle-earth and there are some dark undertones to it.

I do get what you mean, but I don't wanna start seeing bright colours everywhere. In fact, on a second viewing there is plenty of colour in there - look how saturated the colour is when a wide shot of Rivendell is shown, it's incredibly colourful.

A lot of people want it to still feel like a LotR movie because it's intended to bridge the gap between the two sets of stories - and, given the critical success of Jackson's trilogy, you can't exactly argue with the results. I get that you wanted something different, but a large proportion of us have waited ages to dive back into Jackson's version of Middle-earth.

Yes, that's my point.

Oh well I hope the movie is more in line with FOTR than the other ones.

Tolkiens... I guess you could say 'excuse' for the Hobbit being light hearted is that Bilbo wrote it for the children in the shire, so he couldn't make it as dark as it actually was. I think he re-wrote a few chapters (by taking out things like the talking troll wallet).

Anyway, on Del Toro, he has confirmed that his designs for some of the creatures and some artworkhave remained since his departure, so hopefully we'll be getting some of Del Toro's awesome creature design, blended with Peters eye for detail and location scouting to make a truly epic movie well worth the money, unlike some movies nowadays

Peter Jackson announced a third Hobbit film.

Now, I'm kinda almost a wee bit worried. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the world of Middle-Earth as much as - who am I kidding, more than - the next guy, but I can't help but feel that this is a bad move... If it was announced as a three parter early on I'd be fine, but now he has decided to, from what I can tell, re-structure the first two movies to accomodate a third.

The first two movies will be great, because it seems like they will be pretty much only about reclaiming the Lonely mountain, but it sounds like Peter is taking all of the 'background' stuff - the white council, the necromancer, attack on Dol Gulduir and all the other shit Gandalf got up to while the dwarves and Bilbo were away riding inside barrels and fighting spiders - and cramming it all into the third film. Again, don't get me wrong, I love Middle-Earth, particuarly Peter Jackson's adaption of it, but it seems like he's taking the infamous many-endings of ROTK (which btw I wasn't bothered about) and applying it to the Hobbit and stretching it to the three hour mark.

All this worrying comes from love and desire to see this story done right on the big screen, so if it seems pedantic... Actually, fuck off, this is a valid concern.

The Hobbit is a shorter story than The Lord of the Rings, as I'm sure you know, so the addition of a third film is to ensure that all material is in there. In many ways Jackson has better material to work with; with LotR, he crammed in 9+ hours of film in and still had to miss out significant sections!

It sounds like a really obvious thing to say, but the editing work is done after all the footage has been produced and so the overall narrative shouldn't really be affected too much. The decision was taken after viewing of the aforementioned footage, and it's certainly not a decision that would have been taken lightly. I'd assume it's simply a case of there being too much valuable footage for two films alone to handle, and that's fine.

I trust Jackson to do a great job with the editing. He took multiple narratives in The Lord of the Rings and weaved it together fairly seamlessly, which was a task easier said than done.

And, given his meticulous eye for detail, I can't see him seeing bunging a load of raw footage together for the third and final film.

Really bad news as far as Im concerned, Jackson tends to draaaaaaaaaaaag a lot his movies and if one of them or 2 turns out to be annother TTT then to I will be sad.

You just wait, the second movie will be a TTT over again in wich it will be made only to get to the third that will contain the http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Battle_of_Five_Armi...
