There won't be a huge leap in graphics in this game. RR7 is just another name for RR6 for Namco. Other than car customization (stickers and paint jobs), the whole thing will remain the same.

Just a hunch and given their track record its a pretty good one. Read the actual Namco website on the PS3 RR7 and you'll see what features this thing has...it hints that nearly everything (gameplay mechanics) will be the same as RR6. Graphics wise...I doubt it will be any different either.

By the game won't be loads better than what it is simply because its on the PS3.

I see.
I figured they might add some upgraded graphics, for whatever reason.
From these RR7 pics though, it's hard to tell.

Added features are, of course, a no-brainer.

They might but don't bet on it. RR6 graphics was fine to majority of the Japanese gamers and that's the only thing Namco cares about. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

They don't seem very concerned with pushing any limits, true. (except with that Tekken game on the PSP... very nice).

I'm just interested to see if the "conspiracy" that people are worried about comes true.

If they do significantly better graphics on the PS3, it's either they are suckers for Sony, or they just feel more comfortable with that hardware structure.
OR, the added time was significant enough to upgrade an existing engine even further, regardless of the system.

If this game isn't multiplatform, I guess we'll never know.

I'm also interested to see how it goes. I'm a big fan of RR6 for the XBOX 360 but at this point in time I'm not exactly compelled to buy a PS3 in order to play RR7.

The game will be exclusive to the PS3 since Namco uses the Ridge Racer series to usher in a new console. We won't be seeing another Ridge Racer game (RR8) until the next-generation.

I can't see how it could be much different than RR6 to be honest other than graphics and even then not really anything noticeable, the only thing i notice that stands out in the pics is the lighting.

Seems a bit pointless calling it 7 when it's barely any different though.

It's got to look better surely, after having a years more development then RR6.

Not really. From what I understand it was only developed shortly after Ridge Racer 6...so years development is hardly the case. Same features...same everything. At most this is probably just a port of the XBOX 360 RR6 only with different maps.

Good luck to you people wishing that it will look better. As I said, given Namco's track record, I highly doubt it.

All the shots in Famitsu are concept renders which look no different from the concept renders that were released back then for the Xbox 360. As a Ridge Racer 6 fan, I think that RR7 will be almost exactly the same game, with a few graphical optimizations here and there, but it will play the same as RR6. Why do I think so? If you find the Japanese RR7 site, you'll read on the description there that you'll be doing drifts at 200+ KPH...so their driving model will still be very arcadey (my type of game), but it won't appeal to everyone (particularly those who like their driving games fairly realistic with licensed cars and real environments).

All I see in this thread are a bunch of 360 fans clinging on to the hope that RR7 won't smack their console in the teeth by being a significantly more impressive game than RR6. I'm not saying it's definitely gonna be, but this wild assumption is really just stupid.

Namco have been on PS and with sony for ages, they know that a Ridge Racer game for the PS3 will be way more important to the way they look in the eyes of their trusting japanese playstation fans. The PS brand is a safe bet that development time and effort won't be wasted, and surely if they put 7 in the title they can't be so cheeky it's essentially the same game.

Well it depends how long they've had final hardware... and how far do they plan to go graphically?

We have no idea so we can't really say for sure.

If RR7 has significantly better image quality than RR6--and it's even slightly more polished..than you've already got a much better looking game. My question is, will it be multiplatform? I hope so..I love RR6.

I'm not much clinging to hope that it won't kick my console in the teeth, I just want to know if I need a PS3 this year or not..I'll most likely get a PS3 soon, but I'd like to upgrade my PC again towards the end of the year..more dedicated to PC gaming.

PS. It would have been nice to actually see RR7 screenshots in this thread.

There are none so far. The only thing available are CG concept screens of the intro sequence perhaps.

And the game is bound to be an exclusive to PS3. Namco uses the Ridge Racer series to usher in a new console. Ridge Racer 7 will be the first and last Ridge Racer game for the PS3. In the same way that Ridge Racer 6 is the first and last Ridge Racer game for the XBOX 360.

Well if people didn't keep on harping on and on about how lousy RR6...graphics, slidy cars, blah blah blah. And yet these same people expect RR7 to be drastically more beautiful than RR6 given the development conditions of the game.

I've actually played and enjoyed the Ridge Racer series and if you are familiar with the history of the series you will know what I'm talking about.

Hah...great job trying incite a flame war here.

I'm a big fan of RR6, but I know a lot of people didn't like the gameplay of that game. From what I've read on namco's site, the gameplay will be exactly the same as RR6/RR PSP:

Translated via excite.co.jp/world/english:
Easiness and the refreshing drift racing only of the ridge in which it runs through in the hairpin corner at 200 km/h evolve further because of the sound of the high-definition television graphic and power achieved in next generation platform "PlayStation 3". Moreover, it can easily enjoy only the ridge racer's excitement on the world scale corresponding to the network service that SCE is new, and the online of next generation play experience is offered.
In addition, the machine customizing function is installed. As for only ridge racer's easiness, the player makes up the machine that oneself has, and can demonstrate individuality online in the state as it is by the customizing function to achieve 200,000 kinds of or less a model variations.

Please expect it of "Exhilaration one feels for the drift" only of the ridge that accelerates further with PlayStation 3 and "Speed feeling".

...So don't go expecting miracles. If you hated RR6, you're *most likely* going to hate RR7.

I would not be surprised if the PS3 version of RR got a lot more dedication from Namco than RR6 which I believe was just a graphically pimped port of the PSP RidgeRacer.

And it´s quite comprehensible why, as RR is a huge game in Japan and the PS3 will completely destroy the 360 in that territory.

Unfortunately i think we will see this behaviour from a lot of Japanese developers, at least at brands targeted mostly at the Asian markets. Only 360 games that will also sell well in Europe and the US like Resident Evil 5 or PES/Winning Eleven will receive some better treatment.

That quote rips it out of context, Plumb. I meant his line about "good luck to you suckers foolishly thinking it'll be better. Idiots." being gamefaqsy, not the topic or discussion in general.
