Teramoto and crew believe that the Cell and RSX chips give them the chance to achieve a "Feeling of Ridge Racer" better than they were able to in Ridge Racer 6. This includes the feeling of speed and a refreshing, good play feel that you instantly get when starting play.
The PS3's power could be used for realistic physics, but that wouldn't very Ridge Racer, explained Teramoto. "The PS3's power will be used for various effects, and things that take place both on and around the course. If we use the Cell's computational power for these areas, we believe we'll be able to make a Ridge Racer like never before."

any doubts about what I said earlier about this? look at the bold part and look at namco's effort with Frame city killer using Unreal 3 Engine and such
RR7 (assuming it's a launch game) gets 8 months on a final GPU/CPU as well as another year on kits about 80% as powerful as the final product (compared to 360 alphas which were 35%)
Here's the difference
RR7

RR6

Alternatively here's another 360 launch game built on a heavily modified Xbox engine

As for what the machines can do, I think PGR3 looks better, but that's just me.
Ultimatly if the 360 doesn't get a port it's a screwover, but considering the development times and evolution of the DK's you might as well compare a second generation game to a first gen one.
It's just bad luck, if 360 had a DK evolution as the PS3 you could easily see RR6 looking as good.

One day you will be mine Ms Portman!
The new SC games are no more a rehash than any other 3D fighting game series, that's just a load of crap--mind you, I hate SC3's single player components--but it IS an improvement over SC2 which was a LEAP over SC..despite what all the (nub) haters think about the game. If SC3 is a rehash then DOA4 *IS* DOAU+3.
Namco is a great company, a great arcade developer, and they're KEY to anyones success in Japan. Their great arcade games are comparable to Sega's great arcade games..and that's not even considering the classics.
You're all right though, YOU don't care about RR..so stop being so insecure about the PS3 getting RR7. It's not like you won't get great looking racing games on your console, there's plenty to go around for everyone.
I'll take RR7 @ 60fps over Forza @ 30 though :P (note: fully prepared to eat crow if Forza 2 runs @ 60fps, and I'd be thrilled to do so)
It's almost a completely different game now than it was on the PS1..
I disagree with some of what you say griftgfx, (who's surprised ?:P) i think SC has lost something since SC on the dreamcast, i found SC2 to be seriously boring, i also find DOA4 to be boring also..
RR6 was boring for me although i only played the demo in all honesty but there was nothing there that made me want to buy it, i played RR5 to death on the PS2 though.
The only reason Namco are up there beside Sega is becasue normally they copy their idea's and normally they aren't as good..
(((Sega had Sega Rally/ Namco did RR, Sega had Time Cop/ Namco did Time Crisis, Sega had VF/ Namco did Tekken.)))
And I'm a big Sega fanboy, I know that Namco copies Sega's ideas..but not all of their games are bad or even worse than what they start to emulate--Time Crisis is a great example of this IMO, because it's much better than Virtua Cop. I'll take VF over Tekken any day of the week though..though on the other hand, Soul Calibur is great.
People might go crazy over that, but virtua fighter just doesn't seem as graceful if that even makes sense.

I must admit when i first picked up DOA4 i found it really hard to get to grips with the new counter moves.. which put me off somewhat and i really don't see that huge of a graphical leap in it either..
DOA4 is still about luck you mash the buttons and sometimes you win sometimes you lose.
VF on the other hand is pretty much the oppisite.
