There are two things that impress me most about this game; Firstly the humour and writing, black though it is, is great! The mall itself contains a large number of human characters who have their own personalities and backstories in their own little way. It's a nice contrast with the hordes of zombies that typically surround you. As I've mentioned, the humour is very black and perhaps not to everyone's taste. The webisodes and demo will give you a good idea whether you will enjoy that or not but it's why I feel reviews for this are always going to be mixed.

The second thing is the sheer number of zombies on screen and variety of weapons and ways they can be despatched. There must be literally hundreds of weapons in this game, some totally bizarre, giant lipstick, mannequins etc. I encourage everybody to try out the "Excavator" in the hardware store! Though not if your kids are playing, it is definitely very very bloody!

The Mall feels suitably large to me and there is good variety in the design. I think the map was posted on here a short time ago. There are a variety of ridiculous costumes that can be aquired, some with a distinct Capcom theme which I won't spoil! :)

I've seen the phrase "It's a videogame version of "Shaun of the Dead" and that's exactly right. If you like that film, you'll love this! Part of the appeal is what they've done with the characters and to me distinguishes it from the majority of zombie type games. Some of the bosses are quite clearly derranged

One amusing thing that did happen, more or less the first mission you get requires you to find a middle aged chaps wife on the roof. On the roof are a collection of soccer balls which I spent at least 5 minutes kicking at the poor woman's head. It was only after 5 or 6 hits that her husband finally lost his rag and whacked me full in the face with the golf club he was carrying!

If you think that makes you laugh, you should definitely buy this game

In the demo or the game itself? I've not played the demo, but in the game yes

Thanks deftangel, the EGM review sounded overly critical to me.

i bet they never even played the game ;)...even if you dont like this type of game..it still deserves a damn good review...and thats just my impression from the demo.

some time i see reviews and you can bet your bottom dollar that the reviewer "even before he/she has played the game" has gone at it with the idea of i dont like this type of game so im gonna give it a bad review.
whether you like it or not you should take your self out of the equation and judge the game on its merits regardless if you like it or not

Well this game definitely plays as awesomely as I thought it would. There is a real satisfaction to beating zombies down with a hammer or tearing off their heads with a scythe. They even included the zombie walk move so you can clamber all over their heads when they are in a crowd!

Especially awesome is the fact that any cutscenes you trigger feature Frank in whatever clothes you were wearing last (Servbot head, tight t-shirt and shorts lol)

We found an amusing bug that's a consequence of that. When starting a new game using a profile that had played it before, the opening scene in the helicopter had Frank in boxers with no hair! Presumably this was how it was saved on the previous playthrough but it confused the hell out of me for a minute!

I'm not sure if it was intentional or it'll get fixed but funny none the less.

I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what is in the demo and having a go at home. The achievement list is also suitably wacky

That demo is hella fun. Im glad I came here this early in the morning. One thing I dont like is that the demo could end so fast or ends so fast. My favorite weapon is the boomerang. It's the best!

Thats as big as the area is :( I was hoping it would be bigger. Well in the exit by the bathroom it says you need a tunnel key. So could it be bigger? Im not sure if the link you gave shows the tunnel too. Everyone should go to the Xs on the link that slab provides right before 7:00pm on your watch cause the demos ends there. All of the Xs in the link shows cutscenes and when the time reaches 7 pm.

Ehm i kinda liked the demo, nice action , funny stuff especially the gitars, baseball bat and the boling balls

BUT i think this game will be boring after 2 hours of play, i mean it's fun playing around with all the stuff but for how long?

I'm interested in the story but i'm not satisfied enough by the demo to start buying it..

BTW it says: back-up brad, but where the hell is that guy? I went outside (that starts a video) i went to the stairs (that starts a video) and playing for 15-20 starts a video is there any other route or "ending" you can have in the demo?

deftangel : Can you confirm that you are able to save the game at any restroom in the mall? Not just the one near the entrance (which is in the demo)

Eddy: That doesn't include areas under the tunnel or around the mall.

I don't think you can find him. At the end of the demo it says "To find Brad and ...... purchase the full game" or something.

I pretty much agree with you, the only reason i would get this game is for the story however.

I found the demo a little boring after a while I went through a door and saw a video and it was the end of the demo.. !!??

I think your mission is to find Eddy btw. (which isn't part of the demo)

There is no mission in the demo, it's just a section to play around with the game and find a few cutscenes.

Well the story might be good but there's no way of knowing since they gave u absolutly nothing in terms of the story or what's going to happen, but that's logical ofcourse, just wanted to know if this game won't be boring after 2 hours...

has any one here ever seen a goerge a romero..film,or shaun of the dead...???
i think the naysayers (jolli and firewire) are missing the point to this game
(i wouldnt think jolli would like this game anyways its not a japanese rpg "no offence" )

its all about "fun" the "dead" trillogy by romero ..flimsy plot ,but that was the point its a zombie flick , they were about atmosphere , about the pollitical viewpoints of the time...and seeing how far they could push the gore/scare factor, yes they had a story ,(but was a no brainer) but when watching those films its about seeing how many different ways romero could think of how to kill a zombie or a zombie killing human.
(sam rami took it a step further with the evil dead trilogy)

the point of the game is to let you loose in a shopping mall (its almost the ultimate sandbox ,go anyplace do any thing..within the confines of the mall) with every concievable weapon you could think of , with the main aim of killing zombies.
it is meant to be played in short bursts(an hour or so at a time...a game you can come back to again and again and again)

its just mindless zombie killing action, thats it . not some deep rpg or action adventure

It's about fun, as in what they're not having after they're bored. It's not about missing a point, it's about not enjoying oneself.

This'll go both ways just like the N3 demo did, and nobody is *wrong*.

I think the cutscenes you see are to show you that there is indeed a story to the game and that you will encounter far worse enemies than the zombies!

I'm absolutely in love with this game! I found it hilarious shooting zombies with the water pistol and also throwing gems and jewels at them.
