The future looks bright for one of the games industry's largest publishers.
by Hilary Goldstein
Net sales for the quarter increased to $240.2 million from $142.7 million the year prior, a 68% increase. THQ's $12.6 million net income for the quarter is a substantial increase from its $1.4 million loss in the same quarter of the previous year.
Along with the increases in revenue, THQ announced that Saints Row has shipped more than one million copies on Xbox 360 and Cars, the multi-platform videogame based on the Pixar animated film, has shipped more than four million copies worldwide. THQ even has a firm grip on the handheld market. According to NPD, THQ is the #1 publisher year-to-date on the Nintendo DS.
Me thinks a sequel will be in the works very soon.

Exclusivity seem to matter little these days. And once many publishers go multi platform, then the days of the XBOX 360 are looking brighter.
Yeah, im a fanboy, dont like it?

future looks bright for the xbox 360
The Xbox1 had 13 games in the US break 1M copies over 5 years, and it has 25M units sold.
This may explain why the Xbox 360 is ripping the Xbox1 and PS2 in total sales in the same time frame. e.g.
Xbox vs. X360 http://www.vgcharts.org/usaconscomps.php?name1=X36...
PS2 vs. X360 http://www.vgcharts.org/usaconscomps.php?name1=X36...
From a publisher standpoint the Xbox 360 is demonstrating to be a very strong platform for game sales. We can talk about install base and competition, but at the end of the day it is about how much software can be pushed on a platform. So far the Xbox 360 is proving to be a huge success for publishers.
MS isn't going to have 174 titles break 1M in sales like the PS2 did, but I bet they will beat 13 titles at the 1M mark within 24 months.

Gears of War is anticipated to have around a million pre-orders, so do not be surprised if the game moves a million to a million and a half units it's first week at retail. R6 Vegas, SC Double Agent, F.E.A.R., and Call of Duty 3 are all guaranteed million sellers; all due to be released within the first year of X360 availability. All in all things are tracking very well for the 360 in it's early lifespan.
As pointed out, 2007 is turning out not to be a slouch either. Lost Planet, Blue Dragon, Assassin's Creed, GTA4, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Fable 2, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and Stranglehold are all due for release in Western markets and are all guaranteed million sellers. And other titles like Alan Wake, Crackdown, Forza 2, Bioshock, Eternal Sonata, Too Human, DarkSector and Shadowrun if marketed correctly, should make the cut as well.
That's almost 30 potential million sellers released in the first 24 months (12 of which saw initial release in the first twelve months) to the system is on the market. Not a bad beginning to say the least.
EDIT - It's been brought to my attention that PGR and PGR2 both sold over 1.5 million, so I guess it stands to reason that PGR3 (which I am loving BTW) will do likewise. So there, you can add yet another million seller to the list. Which brings of the question of the PDZ and Kameo. I know that both games were selling very well, but does anyone here have any numbers on how well they are doing? Have they yet crossed the million seller mark or are they tracking to do so? I'm just curious as its beginning to seem that the 360 is tacking on confirmed and potential million sellers left and right.

I think with this list, we can begin to get an idea of which of the classic franchises will sell into the millions of units this generation as their new generation sequels make appearances over the course of time.
North American (only) Totals Xbox 360 Games As of August 2006
Do keep in mind all totals from both charts are only up until August (01) of 2006. So a considerable amount of software sales are not accounted for. For example, THQ just released a press release last week stating that Saints Row just moved a million units since it's late August release; yet the game does not appear on the Xbox 360 chart at all, much less the million units that it sold. Also keep in mind that the Xbox 360 chart is only for the North American market. For some reason unknown to me, the chart's source is not able to tabulate monthly sales figures from throughout Europe and other territories. Japan and North America seem to be the only regions they are able to tabulate on a monthly basis - however, they seem to be able to tabulate annual numbers from most regions, so when those become available for 2006, I will hope to remember to post them here.

So if we think of a ground base its still "good".

I used the VG Charts list because it is probably 95% accurate, unfortunately for it to hit that level of accuracy, it is usually several months behind giving them the opportunity to tabulate and verify numbers from a myriad of sources before finally publishing them.
The other thing of note is that these numbers are from August, and we are in November. Quite a few of the games on this list are going to have sold a bit more since then, especially with the customary spike in software and hardware sales that goes with the end of summer and the latter 3rd of Q3. So most of the more recent games on the list are still selling quite well and are most likely tracking ever closer to the million seller mark. The perfect example of this is Volition's Saints Row, which had not even come out by the time the numbers for this list were being tabulated, yet it has already sold a million copies; probably half of which sold in North America, but do not be surprised to see good numbers from this game in Europe as Saints Row has been an extremely popular game across teh Pond and rested at the top of the European sales charts (for all systems combined) for several weeks.
