Yea, I think that's a nice feature, proximity chat could be interesting in certain situations. Plus, you can talk shit a lot easier that way ;)

Nah i don't think it was a great feature, i could hear guys coming miles before they could see me, and sure it makes it easier but i'm just used to the way the old rainbow did it :D

So i'm fine with this...

Man since i've got this game, Gears and Cod3 are just collecting dust in the corner :-D
So if any of you guys want to join up for some online action just add me on live!

I'm gonna give it a rental sometime, but I doubt it's going to replace Gears for me. I quite like the design of Gears multiplayer, now if they'd only deliver a patch too! I understand that it's 1) bigger, 2) more tactical (maybe) and 3) some people don't like the classic convention of fighting over weapon possitions..but I think it's very good personally.

But when I get my copy from gamefly, we should do it up. Not sure when that will be, have about 8 games in my queue right now, not entirely sure what I'll be getting next.

Looking foward to it!

As for gears i also think that GOW multi is pretty good, i'm just more attracted to having different guns to choose from at the beginning and not running like a maniac to a gun position so that you have an advantage....

I like to use tactical positioning and room to room fighting with team communication...
I feel that gears is maybe a bit too arcady for my taste and i comes down more to: Who can get the better weapon faster and i'm not that happy with the "roll-move" in gears .....

It's certainly a different pace, and it owes some of its heritage to Unreal (which is like ultimately arcadey) but the cover system slows down the games pace a bit and gives it a more tactical sort of feel than your typical run and gun shooter.

I think one of the things that really apeals to me about Gears is that it sort of finds a new middleground that I'm not used to. It's not really a tactical shooter--it's not really an run and gun game either, it finds a comfortable possition between the two and the end result is very fun. It also probably helps that I'm into both realistic shooters and run and gun games..

Personally I don't find the weapon balance to be an issue, because everyone has the oppertunity to make it to those locations and fight over those weapons. For example, on Gridlock I often find myself fighting over the frags, not because I really want them but because it's important to keep them out of the hands of the enemy. If you can take down that player with the lancer, and pick those suckers up, it doesn't mean you need to go on a tag-spree. That's something that I typically only resort to if it's my last option, if I'm out numbered and the last one on my team alive, I have no problem breaking out the explosives.

Play to win, and all that.

I really like the element of surprise en confusion in the rainbow games, like on some maps it's easy to cut off the other team by holding 2 points, i find it a real challenge to get out of that "blockade" and actually win the game , it just gives you the feeling: Even though 4 guys were waiting i still kicked their ass :-D

It's also more a "We" feeling than what i get from gears, (maybe also because i always play with friend/clanmates)

Gears is more a fun and quick game where kinda humiliating the enemy is a big issue :-D
Rainbow is more about "smart" play and has more tactical nature IMO

But anyway; everybody's allowed his own opinion so i'm not bashing gears or anything....

Well it only makes sense that Rainbow would be a more tactical experience than Gears, but when you're playing with a good team against another, it can still bring out a lot of high strategy that might otherwise be lost in a pickup game.

I'm not sure I love what Rainbow has done for cover, I like playing my first person shooters in first person, and the shift back and forth between the two views brings up some real issues, imo..doesn't mean it's not a good game, but you should get a little tent and a camp fire to keep you company in that game, when you're behind an object/wall/etc ;)

You can get the "We" feeling out of Gears too, it just might require more cooperation from your team than it does in Rainbow--in R6 that may come more naturally. Even in a straight up run and gun action FPS, (UT, Halo, etc) you can still have a lot of heavy strategy coming into play. The last clan game I played was Battlefield 2, which is imo a bit more strategic than anything mentioned here, but just because the game demands more complicated strategy and cooperation does not necesarly mean that it's any more of a thinking man's game when you're playing at high levels. I'm still considering starting a team for Gears, I've got enough recruits lined up already, it's just a matter of having the drive to actually organize scrims and make sure people stick to a schedule..I'm actually enjoying playing on my own for the time being.

I do think that Gears has the potential to be a rather serious compeditive game, if all the variables are right. And I'm not trying to convince you that it's better than R6 or anything either, if it weren't for the cover system in R6 we'd really be talking apples and oranges.

Well look that's also a point i had before the game was launched. As i've been playing the game non-stop for the last couple of weeks, i found out that camping is not a big as an issue as it is in other games. Compared to the old rainbow six the camping might be even the same.

You can hug a wall and wait till someone comes in view and pop him in the head. But most of the time you can see when someones leaning against cover (his elbow/shoulders/legs stick out a bit) So i've had numerous occassions that people were waiting for me to come around a corner and pop me in the head. But you can easily get those people in a couple of different ways...

Camping is an issue in every game and it's not more of an issue because of the cover system, trust me!

Some of those are pretty damn ridiculous, but also you have to remember that the very first day the game goes on the market it gets played more hours than they ever got to test it.
