I've only played 3, but everything I've ever heard was that the first 2 sucked and that they only got good at 3.

Burnout 2 is so the best, you should throw pies at the ones that told you that.

Or simply assume they like crashing a lot more than they like racing.

I loved 2, 3 was great aswell. Never bought 4 though.

To be honest 3 sucked, graphically it was great but for the gameplay serious crap.
If you crashed two times you almost can't catch in on them. And the cars that suddenly appear out of nothing were very annoying, I almost smashed my tv playing this game :)

Also the reason I never had any interest in 4 it looked the same.
New generation, new chances.

That's a bit harsh. I agree that the first two games were in general better, but I still think that both three and four were decent games as well. I actually like three a good deal--and my only problem with Revenge is that dodging traffic is sorta not that necessary when you can basically plow through everyone.

I thought one of the main problems with 3 was that not even crashing really had much of an impact on whether you won or not. Boost was totally generous and you barely needed to do anything to get enough to boost back to the lead.

Burnout 2 was about skillful driving, not fucking takedowns. Grr.

Well at least there's Dominator for my Burnout roots cravings.

I don't know about that. In my opinion, the whole series is about half driving and half car combat. If you want a serious racing game, you should probably try something without a crazy boost button at all. Burnout to me has always been about risk vs. reward--not a good driving line.

But there was no combat in 1 and 2. There wasn't even a proper collision model for the competing cars.

And scoring X14 burnouts was not about combat nor a good line, it was about reflexes and great drifting skills.

Depends I guess, do you simply want to do the race and progress through the game or do you want to rack up the big scores? Either way, the ease with which you do stuff in 2 is dumbed down to near-pointlessness in the two sequels. The way the boost meter works and the way traffic works has you winning all the time.

Split screen Burnout 2 is prolly still the most fun I've ever had with a racing game, period.

Burnout 3 was good, you cant deny it of that, but compared to that previous 2 it did blow fat chunks of cosmos poo.
