DARK SECTOR coming Fall 2007
Dark Sector, Too Human, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Resident Evil 5, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

It is a alpha built, so you gotta take down the next-gen radar of yours to a line that makes sense.
Anyway, the game looked cool. Although this is a early built, we can't expect to see very much, so all I can say is, it could play good. We just need more of an upgraded built to see how it stacks up to other FPS games, such as Battlefield.

I really don't doubt their ability to create something that competes with Battlefield. Battlefield has in my opinion been in steady decline since BF2 released. DICE has shown that they don't really care about supporting the community as much as they used to--and I believe that 2142 is a clear indication of their future direction--and it is one that I don't much care for. 2142 is a real turn off to a lot of old BF2/1942 players. It is not a horrible game by any means, but the progression system is unbalanced and in general it is awkward for competition play.
I've said this before, but KAOS helped develop (as Trauma Studios) Battlefield 2, and they developed Desert Combat--the mod that inspired BF2. These guys are real gamers, who really care about their game being the best it can be..so I have some faith. It's early yet, and these guys know how to make a great game.
Thanks for posting this as usual Sath, I know I'm one of the few people who is this enthusiastic about a game that we know little about. I just have a lot of faith in the concept and the development team. I hope they live up to that expectation, it really could go either way at this point.
I guess this is my Dark Sector.
Don't push the whole new "Dark Sector" hehe, not the same genre, even you know it, but your fanism is, oh-kay! hehe

1) Resistance wasn't that bad. Average and over reviewed, perhaps, but a solid shooter and given the state of FPS in 2006--not a bad game. I wouldn't be suprised if most of the people who bash the game actually haven't played much of it. It's not great, that's for sure--but it's much better than say--Call of Duty 3. Now there you have a terrible shooter.
2) This game won't be anything like Resistance. Resistance is a run and gun quake clone, and this isn't anything of the sort--although it looks a bit more fast paced than your average BF clone. Resistance for instance does not have dozens of vehicles in multiplayer.
It doesn't look great at this stage, I'll give you that. But with further improvements this stands to be one of the better multiplayer shooters this year. The gameplay is still being tweaked and we're seeing alpha footage of a new product from a new game developer. Halo 3 alpha footage is allowed to look like Halo 2--but god forbid a new PC developer takes their time creating something special. It has more potential than a game like Shadowrun, and it has a pedigree that actually means something. Not surprised that most people don't see that--most people here aren't PC gamers and don't have a terrible amount of experience with the core Battlefield franchise. At least these guys are delivering the same exact experience on the console side (aside from player size) that they are in the PC space--they're not delivering some half baked spin off (a la DICE).
This game REALLY could wind up competing with Enemy Territory and Battlefield. Only time will tell. The single player game especially looks lacking at this point, but they are attempting to do some cool things with the bot AI..multiplayer is obviously the focus of this title anyway.
The video seems to be controlled with a gamepad, hence the jerky player movements. Visually I actually don't think it's all that bad, which is actually promising, since they've been clear that they want to alpha test the hell out of the gameplay before they finish the graphics. I am sorta turned off by the fact that the noob tube bounces off of some surfaces (right out of the BF2 patch)--but at least the weapon is there at all.

Great article for those (few) interested. This is the GFW cover story from a ~month ago. Add's quite a bit of detail about how the game functions and even has some multiplayer impressions. The progression system resets every round, which is probably best. I hate the "RPG" aspect of 2142.
ASSAULT
All-purpose fighter with assault rifle, grenade launcher, pistol, and grenades.
HEAVY ASSAULT
Goon that hauls machine guns.
SNIPER
The camper: Aside from a high-powered rifle, you get proximity mines--the perfect interloper deterrent.
ANTITANK
Loaded with rocket launchers and land mines.
SPECIAL OPS
This stealth-tastic soldier uses silenced weapons and smoke grenades.
CLOSE COMBAT
Have Shotty, will travel.
ROLES Now pick your specialist job--and level it up in battle with XP.
ADRONE TECH
Go on the tactical offensive with your robot army! Send out a recon drone to park over areas or arm assault units with rockets. Each side has unique approaches. The Western Alliance focuses on stealthy high-tech devices (its Rank-3 drone pthunks out mortar shells), while the Red Star army uses what amounts to lethally modded remote-control toys.
AIRSTRIKE
For the less subtle blitzkrieg, start with an airstrike. Rank 2 calls in a gunship to clear an area. Rank 3? We're talking cluster bombs or, in the case of the Red Star, the Fuel Air Bomb. Oh, and in the singleplayer game, you'll be able to drop a tactical nuke. Nice.
GROUND TECH
This is the all-inclusive support role, capable of healing, repairing, and setting up strong defenses. Erect machine-gun emplacements or mounted antitank rail guns for anyone to use. Repair vehicles and patch up people. So go on, lend a hand. Just remember that the adrenaline shot revives people and it's a handy way to give live foes a heart attack.
COUNTERMEASURES
This tactical defensive skill lets you take out drones with EMP grenades, disable vehicles by using an EMP rocket, or call in an EMP pulse bomb that'll short out a city block. Tactical tip du jour: Fire an EMP rocket near a chopper. When it flails about defenselessly, follow up with a rocket, then just wait for 'em to say, "Wha happun?"
