Eidos has just confirmed it.

Tomb Raider anniversary will come as a downloadable content for owners of Tomb Raider legend and the enitire game divided into two packs will cost a total of 2400 MP.

For those who dont own tomb raider legend, well dont worry, the game will be released as a retail game later this year as well.

The question I have in mind, are the graphics going to be upgraded. my instinct and logic tells me NO given the size issue.

More Details, read what follows
Eidos has confirmed that it plans to release Tomb Raider Anniversary on Xbox 360 as a series of downloadable episodes starting in September.
The content - Xbox Live's first ever serialisation of a full retail game - will be made available for owners of Tomb Raider Legend to purchase through Xbox Live Marketplace.
In September "Episodes 1 & 2" will be offered along with a free training mission ("Croft Manor"). The following two episodes will arrive "shortly afterwards".
Eidos then plans to release a full retail version of Tomb Raider Anniversary "later in the year" that will put it within reach of gamers who didn't buy Legend.
Tomb Raider Legend owners will have to pay 2400 Microsoft points (GBP 20.40 / EUR 27.91 / USD 29.99) for all four episodes.
Jane Cavanagh, chief executive of Eidos' parent company SCi, said the episodic approach was part of the publisher's strategy to grow its presence in online and digital distribution.
"Lara has always been at the forefront of technology and this world-first initiative with Microsoft really highlights that fact. Ultimately we also intend to make the title available at retail so that it reaches the maximum possible audience," Cavanagh said in a statement.

Well this is cool and all but why make it only available to people with Legend ? Perhaps there is some way, like with source, that because they use the same engine and resources the download can be much smaller. This would require people to have the Legend disc in while playing the DLC. I dont know if anyone understands what I mean but hopefully you get my point. Another way to look at it is, if Shivering Isles was a download that did not require the original game, would the download not be much larger ?

I see what you mean and I think this might be the reason indeed that it is linked to Tomb Raider Legend in that it will use less space if it's made available through the legend disk but I wonder why given that the two games are completely different. sure they use the same engine but arent engines small in siez anyway ? It's not like anniversary is going to re-use textures from the legend game. completely different levels .... I dont know, perhaps Acert knows something about this ?

Read my post again. I'm fully aware of this, just asking a question about the DLC.

OK. It requires Legend as the episodes by themselves exceed Live Arcade 150MB limitation.

Its not an arcade game though. There are no size limitations on DLC as far as I'm aware. I may re-buy Legend if Anniversary is cheaper through the marketplace.

Arcade games have the size limit, DLC does not.

Shivering Isles?

Shivering Isles?
That's why it's DLC for TR Legend!

That's a fair point. The difference here is that while Shivering Isles was an expansion, Anniversary is a full game. I think it would be much better if they offered it to anyone on the marketplace.

That's what I think, too. Microsoft should really rethink their online strategy. I mean, they could keep XBLA with 150MB and make another distribution channel without that limitation, for bigger games. That way everyone would gain, except these 5% of 360 owners who don't have hard drives.

Makes no sense. Why didn't they just port it straight.

The arcade size limit can bend/break now, remember? I would play this but I don't own Legend.. plus I already have it on PC. Still nice to see it coming though.. fine TR game.

Yeah it can and he said 150mb which is more than the original 50mb. This is not an arcade game though...You weren't suggesting that though were you ? At least they are offering a retail version. Would be pretty mean of them to only offer it DLC through Legends.

Just say'n, 150mb isn't the absolute maximum, they said they could let that bend. Either way though.. the requirement of Legend is pretty lame. There should be a system in place here for downloadable games that don't require.. other games. Online feature -- if the PS3 can do it, the 360 sure as hell should.
