Tbh I don't think it's possible on the PS3 (or Xbox 360).. But surprise me PD..
Also, more then 700 cars, all with fully modeled interieurs aswell.. I mean, this game will take forever to finish (at least if you believe people at BC that claimed it was to much work to get more then +/- 100 carmodels and interieurs in PGR3).. But at least storagespace won't be an issue with Blu-ray..

And who knows if PD will be able to achieve all that, but if anyone can it's them. Other guys could have been the people at DICE working on Rallisport, but they are gone.
Regardless, I think their crappy environments are something that gives them a big advantage, not that the ones in FM2 look any better though..........I think it's disgusting to see X-shaped trees just a few feet away from the track, and both, GT5 and FM2 have them.
And yes, I still can't get over the fact of how damn ugly FM2 looks. It looked average when it came out, now it just looks ugly. Replays are not only a mess in terms of camera angles, they are a mess framerate wise, it's just embarrassing a bit of dust and the framerate going to about 15fps, it's just nasty.
Honestly, as far as graphics go, Turn 10 has some of the least capable among the top racing games developers.
EDIT: BTW, i'm not complaining about the fact that they use them, but where they use them. The /-shaped ones should be VERY FAR FROM THE PLAYERS' VIEW.

PGR3 came out as a launch title, GT5 will come out in 2008........if we are lucky. By that time there will be TWO PGRs, and probably one more in development.
Car models are many times outsourced work though, they just pay some talented modeler, and it really is up to them. I'm sure they have a deadline, but how fast can you make a car without messing up?
Having said that, did they ever said the game was going to have 700+ cars?
Anyways, GT does need work on the physics, so I would hope them to focus on that rather than the amount of cars.
The cars look exceptional, so taking bland (but fairly realistical looking in terms of color) backgrounds and slapping some MB and DOF on them and tada, you can get away with budgeting more for your cars (higher res, more cars, more detail). Of course it will look horrible in screenshots and doesn't really impress me personally, but hey, I am still waiting for some concrete info on AI improvements, bumper cars (get rid of it PD!), damage, online modes, etc.
Btw, technically, PD is in a class of their own. They also have killer artists and some skill in regards to gameplay. Easily one of the Top 10 developers in the world. Easily.
The fans have spoken. Concerning the graphics of the Halo 3 Beta: "There's so many little effects and things going on that make this game pretty much 2nd only to Gears at the moment."
Marumaro for the WIN !!

On such a small video, you can see masses aliasing all over the place, i'd hate to think what it looks like in HD.
On a brighter note, the car models and interiors look awesome and theres 16 cars (I think) on the track which is great.
I hope GT5 really pulls of the 12-16 cars on track, also online, so that will be a clear message to MS and BC that are still at 8 max and claim more cannot be done because of gameplay or performance issue's..

They better have some plans to COMPLETELY OVERHAUL the physics engine for GT5 because it is a total disgrace as is in the demo. It's completely pathetic, all made harder by the fact that the PS1.....PS2 actually....oh no, the PS3 controller does not go well with racers.
The excuse for triggers is just sad, analog stick acceleration has always been rather pathetic, and using the X button to do so feels so cheap when you know they could have simply added REAL triggers as in the Xbox controller.
But that's only controls. Physics are simply bad, bad........bad. The body movement of the car during gameplay tells you absolutely nothing at all. At times, the game feels extremely arcadey, while at others, it just punishes you badly, and not in a realistic manner.
Their own game modes expose the horrible physics engine they have right now. The fact that they have to make cars automatically "drift" while playing in drifting mode speaks louder than anything else I can say. This is not about opinion, the physics system is so bad they have to change them for drift mode. It's sad actually. I can't believe no one mentioned this before in this forum, shame on you people!
And sound, well, it's just bad. Not only do cars sound generic as heck, why does crashing right into a wall make a loud tire noise? Who knows.
@kenshin
Thanks for the link. So the cars look totally crazy, GREAT! Now how about the environments?
It's crazy though, he said they are using ~200K polygons on average, that's absolutely crazy. The pit looks absolutely unbelievable too. It doesn't look like that in-game, but still, incredible. So in other words, their focus is directed at cars......which it isn't a bad thing, but environments do need a little attention. It seems to me like environments are still using PS2 polygons. Come on.
Anyways, they do talk about a rebuilt physics engine. But one thing they keep ignoring is damage, so are they going to do a real simulation or are they going to keep it the same way?
They also say hand movement and interior view mirrors will be fixed, I believe them. So no more bashing that part. Now they also have to fix the lack of inertia as Acert once said, it totally makes the in-car view unrealistic and un-immersive.
I also love how the replays starts right away, no loading at all. And well replays are amazing as always.
6 freaking months building a car! wow.
Anyways, I'm by no means writing the game off, but they need to get their physics straighten out. They HAVE to. They HAVE to add damage, or the game will simply be one level below what it could have been, it's just dumb to not have damage.
Still, 16 cars on track, amazing models and graphics (aside from environments), supposedly online modes, in-car view and more. It's looking good, but again, physics have to be good, that's the real core, not graphics. And great AI also helps. FM2 has some really good AI that actually tries to win and still play fairly clean (FM1).
