What a beautiful looking game. Incredible art. I think it stands up pretty damn nicely to anything on the 360 and PS3.

Anyway, indeed it does. I'm going to go to Gamestop tomorrow and test it out since they have it up and playable.

It still looks fun though. And chock full o waggle. My interest in the Wii is growing.. but Smash Bros. is still the app that stands to push me over the edge.

But I agree that graphically it doesn't look that much better than MP2 on the Gamecube. If I'm not mistaken, they're using the same engine from MP1/MP2 just with tweaks here and there. Still, artistically I think it's one of the best I've seen, and stands up with PS3/360 games(not in graphic tech of course) in that regard.

I value art as far more important than raw graphical features. A game can have as much tech as it wants, but without great art to go with it, it isn't a winner in my book as far as visual appeal goes.

So yeah, a Wii game that looks better than anything else does so for the "all the right reasons". Incredible art direction and appreciation for what you can do within the boundaries of the hardware. Of course, in this sense, even the first Metroid Prime blows pretty much everything away.
In fact, in many senses, Prime blows pretty much everything away, but that's a bit off topic. :)
Like, for instance, having deja vu moments of Full Auto. *glances over at bookshelf where Full Auto 2 sits*
I was so willing to love you, damn it.
On a more serious note though, GS's new scoring system sorta sucks.

Imperius Rex!
I saw a lot of potential in Full Auto and I was readily willing to give 2 a shot at being really good, yeah. Unfortunately they took 1, put a 2 on it.. and... uh. Yeah.
The fact that I enjoy "lesser" games like The Suffering, Dynasty Warriors and by all means Full Auto on a regular basis doesn't really diminish the irrefutable wonder that is Metroid Prime though. You can't blame it on nostalgia when the game is such a revolution of the series, in fact people were scared to death of the direction it took and it ended up absolutely and utterly brilliant. This is simply an instance where you won't see me budge even a centimeter. Metroid Prime is a masterpiece.
The fact that you've given it about as much of a shot as Perfect Dark Zero prolly goes a long way to explain your inability to appreciate its qualities. Also, what seems to be a very narrow view of games played from the first person perspective has obviously coloured your impressions of the game, seemingly rendering it overrated based soley on the fact that it doesn't control like Halo. They even state specifically in the Prime 3 review that the more FPS-like control scheme / emphasis on shooting has done more harm than good, and in a lot of ways robbed it of its adventure like pacing and sense of weirdness and solitude.
If I sound harsh it's because I frankly take the notion of Prime being in any way unjustifiably praised as utter insanity. It sits firmly with my top 3 games of all time.
But yes, GS previous scoring system was a big reason for me appreciating the site so much, and I don't really know why they changed it. It reminds me of the high fives in CVG back in the day when that was a good mag. Suddenly they replaced the hand (and high five for 5/5) with fucking stars (!). Hello embracing convention. :O
Sometimes things change just for the sake of it I suppose.
EDIT: I should prolly add that I never played a Metroid game as a kid, and my brief time with Super Metroid totally put me off the series when I was little. I, personally, don't even have anything to feel nostalgic about in regards to Metroid.
I always appreciated that Samus was a female hero without the jugs and skimpy outfits though.
Imperius Rex!
MP3 looks good. They are using a lot of magnatism to get the Wiimote to quickly latch onto enemies, and then a good bit of adhesion, when not locked on, to keep it there. Good software design BUT imo this, more than anything else, is why MP online isn't there. The latency in gesture recognition and then "user aids" wouldn't work online well. If the CPU is latching onto stuff for you, yet the real enemy due to net latency isn't there anymore... Houston, we have a problem!
Game looks good, looks exciting even. Metroid Prime was a bore for me, so this is more my style. Some action :) If it had quality online I could see myself jumping back to my Nintendo roots and telling all you 360 hobbos off, "Look, I got a killer FPS online, Mario and Zelda, and the best fighting game on the market. And it is cheaper, free online, and no rings of death. And I can play with my little boys. 360 who?" But I want HQ racing games, and a lot of quality FPS games online (TF2, CoD4, BiA3, Halo 3, BFBC...) and remember, "Oh, I already got a GCN for Zelda and RE4".
Ahhh Nintendo, the company I hate to love, and love to hate. Maybe they will buy MS?
The fans have spoken. Concerning the graphics of the Halo 3 Beta: "There's so many little effects and things going on that make this game pretty much 2nd only to Gears at the moment."
I doubt any third game in a series will muster as much enthusiasm and excitement as a completely original experience. For me it never will anyway.
Unless it IS an original experience, but Corruption, like Echoes, was never gonna be.
I hope it's utterly clear that I am talking about the first game in the Prime series in my rantings above.
