Gameinformer Info:
- From what I see, they have pulled in the camera.
- There are real cutscenes and the traditional comic strip narrative.
-You wont just jump up buildings but will construct ways to make it up buildings using objects to heighten that sense of exploration.
- There should be some new powers outside of electricity but he will still be the electric super hero.
- There is melee weapons.
- Zeke is more helpful.
- More people, cars and things happening in the game.
Picture 1. Cole kind of spidey sticking to a wall next to a window with green shudders, cable wiring strung across strung above his head and a busy ole style street below him. It looks almost Victorian with people waiting to cross the cross walk, cars driving with their headlights on at night and brick stone streets.
Picture 2. An almost silhouetted comic style picture of the beast, he looks like Dr. Manhattan but red.
Bottom row of pictures are beautiful concept art of types of in game settings. I'm seeing high contrast, run down blade runner style streets resembling Las Vegas on a small scale. An assassins creed style cathedral, a creepy swamp with a dock and light pouring in from large dead trees with moss hanging from them. What appears to be a cemetery or tombs. Another swampy area but with a resident evil run down mansion in the background.
Picture 3. Cole wielding a big electricity conductor club that looks sort of like a double bladed sword. He is standing in front of a guy wearing cargo pants, a sweater and a helmet hood with a bunch of orange patterns and a gun.
Picture 4. is an assassins creed style image with cole peering over a sun drenched Venice city...although small and hard to make out.
Picture 5. Concept art of a multi colored lit tower in the middle of many old buildings.
Picture 6. Close up from behind cole standing in a water flooded area with capsized boat and old swamp house in the background.
Picture 7. Cole doing a huge spin attack sideways in the air with his electric club/sword. He knocking one of those militia guards into the air.
Picture 8. Close up of Cole doing his classic electricity zap attack to another militia guard. I believe these foot soldiers are people trying to remove people with powers.
Picture 9. A picture of Cole using a new power where he is thrust upward the side of a building via a cable line.
Picture 10. Cole doing a huge electric attack decimating everything in the area including a taxi and foot soldiers.
Picture 11. Close up behind Cole executing a huge electric vortex sucking up anyone and everything.
Picture 12. Cole doing another one of those vortex attacks but in a more visually striking scene.
Picture 13. A screen cap from an in-game cutscene where Cole is leaping and or rolling away from a huge explosion caused by a helicopter missle.
- Bigger bosses, promises to be meaner.
- A smoother morality system, not so black and white.
- Water kills you, tread lightly in swamps.
- Far more visually distinctive areas.
- Possibility of online functionality.
If you haven't seen the Cole Re-design, hes much more attractive, hes essentially the Male version of the girl from Mirrors Edge. Hes got that handsome everyman face, with a light beard/mustache. A stylish hand bandage, messenger bag, simple necklace, V-cut shirt striped pants and a more modern looking two toed ninja boot.
Some quotes:
"We're able to have a much more empathetic narrative this time"
"It was a superhero game that you could get into and have a good time. The second game, if we do our jobs right, will hopefully give you a heart attack."
"Cole getting around - the marriage of parkour and superpowers - creates this incredible jungle gym of mobility. It becomes this landscape of opportunities when you can zip up a building, then find a wire that goes across empty space. You're making it up as you go, and you're stringing together these cool moves that allow you to dominate the space in a way that only Cole can do."
"There are bigger consequences to your choices, and it's not really obvious what's good and bad."
"Morality is certainly a big part of the product." "And we are committed to making it impactful and meaningful, and have it be something you feel is responsive to how you're playing the game."

he may have a better, more skilled voice actor (if it's nolan north i'll die a little inside) that allows for a more emotive character. and he may look a lot more stylish, but he's still a normal looking guy. but i guess that's what they're going for. a more "grounded" approach to a superhero story, less about the capes and spandex and snake mountain hide-outs, more about looking good and blending in while still kicking ass. and i suppose that's what cole does.
gameplay wise tho i think it's sounding right on the money. basically more of the same but better. who knows, maybe the "forgettable" new look is there to have a really neutral blank canvas for the player to manipulate into good or bad. the visual differences in the first game amounted to a change in lightning and the saturation level of the outfit. maybe the second game has more drastic changes. maybe being bad makes you look bent and hunched like kessler was. who knows.
What makes me sad though is to see his jacket go. Cole is a super hero that's never spelled out to be a super hero, and his jacket had a design with a pattern and colour that gave you a subtle superhero vibe. I thought the iconic thing about Cole was that jacket, and the way its colour hues changed ever so slightly to either convey a cold, harsh anti hero Cole or a more glowy, more heroic one.
Oh well, I have it on my Sackboy in LBP.
Oh and also, InFamous is easily my favourite game on the system, so I'm so obscenely stoked for this game I'd have to get my pants off to convey it properly.

the character change is very drastic when you see it, way more drastic then the image i posted makes out. he has mirror's edge-styled tatoo's, michael jackson like tape around his hands and fingers, "trendy" clothes, poser haircut, major difference in facial structure. such a massive change. but i actually like it the more i see of it. by the time it's released i'm sure i'll be happy about the decision. can't wait to see some direct feed screens. even zeke looks pretty awesome.
He got the same hairstyle as me (mine is black) :P
The city design seems to be much more various, more redefined and "alive", from the images anyways.
I am very excited to see what how the new look looks like, it feels like a new IP :)'
I am also excited to hear his voice.
I retract all of my previous "I don't mind" statements, he looks like a fucking boob. :(

I compared the two models side by side, the old Cole's outfit is better, much better.
The reason is because there is more "stuff" on him and has more colors going on. Even Faith in Mirror's Edge was simple but yet was a very slick design.
This new Cole looks very very simple, barely worked on...outfits.
PS. I dont like the tattoos nor the NFL ducktapes on the fingers :P
I remember reading that in the first inFamous there was no outfit unlockables whatsoever, lets hope they include that in this one. Something tells me if anything they will have the old Cole biker outfit, just a guess.
But as long as the gameplay is awesome its all good.

But you're certainly right, I'll slowly get used to the idea, and as I stated earlier, this is still the sequel to my fave PS3 game. I mean apart from Boob McBoobs, the game looks superb.

It's just weird to me, they could achieve essentially the same result by evolving old cole. You could craft a better face with more personality in the process of updating the fidelity of the model, credibly let his hair grow and give him some hair style, and sort some facial hair if they insist.
I think old cole was non descript enough to get away with giving him more personality and features without giving him a TOTAL overhaul. This is so inescapably a *completely different guy*, and that's just.. I dunno, I think it's a bit overkill.
But yeah, it'll be of little consequence ultimately, I just really dug that damn jacket. :)

seems the devs dont quite know what they want their protagonist to look like. a change of clothes was needed tho imo, especially seeing as this is taking place in a shiney new, non-post apocolyptic city, and facially, as you say, he was so non-descript in the first game that i completely understand why they'd want to give him a bit more personality. a full blown overhaul might have been the wrong way to go about it, but as i said, it's the less of the two evils.
i loved infamous, one of the best open world games imo, but cole was definately the week link in the entire thing. from his voice, his personality, his appearence. he was just incredibly forgettable (had to google his last name). i'm hoping these changes rectify those issues. but i am slightly worried what his voice will be like in the sequel. with a poser appearence surely comes a whiney voice? i pray that i'm wrong.

Oooh, Profound, isn't it?
definately one of the best open world games tho. story is a bit hokey, but the twist more then makes up for it. its KOTOR levels of "zomg, didnt see that coming"

I dont like his new look (aside from his head).
He belongs in Mirror's Edge or Brink than inFamous. I dont understand why so many tattoos he looks more over the top. The reason why I liked the previous Cole's design was because there was more color on him thanks to the jacket and he was more "normal" looking. Now he just looks like a tattoo artist :S
Also, bandages? really? LOL
But visually it looks nice, art design has changes from what I seen.
Zeke looks like one of those Elvis Presley guys you find in Las Vegas :P
I just hope the powers and how they are used are cool and that Cole can do some neat stuff.
So instead he's this supe well adjusted playboy now, it makes no sense. I will say I think his new voice is Peter Parkery in a sympathetic way though, and I think his facial animation does seem to lend him a more tangible persona.. But at the same time I always figured the indestinct personality of old Cole was so that you could actually play him however you liked. I wonder if they'll incorporate your moral choices into how this Cole behaves and stuff.
But still, I'm really really excited for this game. I'm confident that by the time it comes out I will have digested this redesigned Cole business.
I think they'd do well to slap a "previously on" at the beginning of this game and at least *show* some of the events of 1 using this Cole. Maybe that way it won't be quite so jarring.
EDIT:
Of course, if you imagine him being a bike messenger and a bit of a pretty boy already PRIOR to the sphere exploding in the first game, it all sorta falls into place. I could see him being all URBAN and FREE RUNNERY then. Yeah, definitely would be nice if they simply "re-tell" the first game's events using this Cole with a short "previously on" at the start of 2.

But the tattoos is what bothers me, it doesnt look cool. Maybe because I hate tattoos myself, if they are overloaded. One small one or so is fine, but too many looks ugly IMO.
I hope they add outfits, because as far as I remember the first one didnt have such stuff.
But I hope the gameplay is better than the first to make me buy it. I wasent feeling the "shooter" re-skin with power, but thats just me.

as for his change of clothes and style. it makes sense to me, why would he be still dressed as a bike messenger? that life is clearly behind him. especially the same threads he was wearing in the first game. time has passed, he's gone to a new city, moved onto new challenges, it'd be weirder to me if he was exactly like he was before in the same way it'd be weird if drake was dressed the same as he was in uncharted 2 as he was in the first.
cole was dressed the way he was dressed in the first game because of context, bike messenger, raysphere blast, remains dressed in those clothes since there was no other option. saving the world came first. but the context has changed now. he's had time to change his clothes to something more comfortable and more fitting to the free-runner lifestyle. his old appearance was one out of necessity imo, a relatively "middle of the road" sense of style. now it feels like a sense of personality is coming through in the way he dresses.
overall i liked the look of both coles, since they both worked in the context of the situation he was in. but i definately prefer the way he looks (and talks) now since it seems it's more fitting for the character as a character. he's distinguishable, has a personality. before he felt like the GTA guy in GTA3. a blank canvas for the player to shape and mould into what they want him to be, but lacking a real persona despite having a voice. the new cole seems like he's evolved into a tommy vercetti or niko belic, a character with real character.
i welcome the change
