DARKNESS II thread

From the Games TM preview I read, this is now on my hype radar. Digital Extremes knows exactly what worked with The DARKNESS and they have the same writer, same Darkness voice actor. Their main focus seems to be improving the gameplay (they want the shooting mechanics to be up there with the best), like the Darkness arms being able to individually controllable, so the Left Arm doesn't feel neglected!

They were handed the property by 2K, they don't even know why Starbreeze are not following it up themselves.

The RPG-ish hub world is definitely gone, and that's a shame. That probably means losing sidequests, since that plays into needing a wider world. It sounds like DE wants the game to now be a linear blockbuster. I'm groaning, but we'll have to see it in motion if the design annoys me.

Graphics look terrible...going from one of the best engines in business to one of the worst.

At least they got an upgrade in the facial animation department, thanks to the more comic book approach. It was pretty stiff in the Starbreeze engine.

I'm liking that the light-and-dark gameplay is more integral than the first game, and the Darkness Arms being more satisfying to use to pick up objects as weapons. Like the idea of smarter enemies, kinda like Third Echelon in SC: Conviction.

Elephant in the room: I'm growing to the cel-shaded look, it still retains a grim atmosphere just with more vivid colours. LIKE

Love the animation of the enemy at the end (3:27), just like the screenshot, hope that's not scripted!

Looks alright... definitely lacks the magic of the first Darkness in my opinion.

Im still seeing this but I wanted to say that it looks absolutly insane!!

I think I liked this videos more than the actual first game lols, I like more way more the art style but Im biased here, Im a lover of cell shaded looks!!

NOt that the first was bad or anything though Im just saying the gameplay stuff here looks way fun and with lots of gore :O

well this is a comic game so it should have cell shade grafics, right? the first game was great but i dont liked the stealth concept for the darkness. and destroying all lights was really annoying. hope jackie gets his darkness amor in this game.
@DOOM to say it have terrible grafics is just dumb because it looks way better than the firs game. this is a comic game so it should be from the beginning in this style.

I think it looks great, and I'm quite excited to play it. I hope it still has the close-quarters gun executions that were so awesome in the first.

My only complaints are superficial, like not ripping hearts out. It added character to the arms, how the right arm was always greedy and the animation of the arms throwing the heart around. Looks like spirits energy here used for XP stuff, which is kinda generic, but I guess has more gameplay implications than just looking cool.

I bought the original again on ps3.. 32p of play... seriously. not touched it though, is it toss on ps3? early port.. i assume so.

I guess they are making some compromises to add other stuff, like for example if you ask me I would take the ability to take doors of cars and throw them to enemies or impale them in from of me before rip them in half than the heart thing, I do agree that looked way cool.

Also the more I see this art style the more I like it.

Nothing wrong with it, i found the last game as grand as it was was very generic looking, least this stands out now.. if in a good way or bad way is personal taste.

the footage of this game has actually put me off. i love the art style, think it is much more fitting compared to the first game. and the characters already look far more expressive (something that kinda ruined the the first game in terms of it's story presentation) but the gameplay here just looks far too run and gun and basic. do you still have stealth options? send you're darkness tentacle snake thing along the floor to kill some unsuspecting enemy? i bloody well hope so.

I think I read that its a more action orientated, I could be wrong but I think stealth options will be way less if not completly gone.

i just like options when it comes to games. esepcially when those options have been in past titles. it'd be like dark athena being a full blown FPS, when escape from butcher bay was a stealth action adventure game. i wouldnt appreciate that. by all means ignore the stealth if you dont like it, but i'd like it to be in there for those that do (me)

the game is just sounding more and more shit tbh. and i dont think i'll play it for more then the story and to hear patton's awesome voice.

well the story is the reason why i will get this anyway but i know i will like the gameplay too :) the art design alone is way better than D1. it feels more like a comic like that. and butcher bay is a really great by the way. but jackie(the darkness) is no sneeker like riddick hes a badass gangster killing machine. in the comics he barely sneak.

Looks more and more awesome everytime I see it.

Also for the one that was wondering about eating hearts, it shows that.

Also the gore and the awesome gunplay feedback is making this game extremelly amazing, way more than the first as far as what we've been seeing.
