Perfect Dark Zero to use Havok
Havok, the video game industry's leading supplier of crossplatform middleware solutions for game developers, announced today that it is developing an innovative new software technology for all of its middleware products that will help game developers leverage the built-in power and scalability of multi-core and multi-threaded next generation game platforms from manufacturers like AMD, Intel, Microsoft, and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

“The face of gaming will change significantly in the next two years, as the computational power available to PC and video game players takes another huge step forward,” said Jeff Yates, VP of Product Management for Havok. “Next generation game systems will offer built-in scalability in the form of multi-core and multi-processor hardware that will be standard in consumer game systems shipping in the next 12 months. Havok’s HydraCore™ software technology is designed to help game developers tap into the true power of these systems, by distributing real-time computation of physics and character animations flexibly and evenly across multiple processors.”

HydraCore is an adaptive middleware technology that will allow game developers to flexibly assign and remove threads from the computationally-heavy tasks that next-generation games will require – from computing physics simulations for dynamic and destructible worlds, to helping game characters respond more intelligently to each other and their environments. HydraCore accelerates these elements of game-play by dividing up the work load and dispatching it to any number of central or secondary processing units such as the AMD Athlon™ 64 processor family. HydraCore ensures Havok-powered games can harvest the native scalability of the next wave of consumer PC game platforms – without requiring specialized add-on hardware.

“Developers are only now beginning to scratch the surface of the computing power available from our cutting edge AMD Athlon 64 FX processors,” said, Bob Brewer, corporate vicepresident, AMD Desktop Business Division, Microprocessor Business Unit, Microprocessor Solutions Sector (MSS) Business. “AMD is committed to the PC game industry and supports the groundbreaking strides made by Havok in bringing multi-threaded capabilities to the next generation of PC games.”

HydraCore will support all next-generation game systems that offer multi-core and multithreaded hardware capabilities, including PCs and next-generation video game platforms from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Microsoft. HydraCore is also designed to gracefully support non-multi-core or single-threaded game environments to ensure the widest possible deployment options to today’s largest game developers.

New Perfect Dark Zero Interview !!!!!!! :bang:

1- Many players are worried that the multiplayer mode in PDZ feels more like Halo 2 than it does to the original Perfect Dark. How are you going to keep the feeling of the original game ?

RARE: Many of the people that have played it said that the Perfect Dark feel is still there. Sadly, you can’t see that by watching videos or images; you have to play it. Also, you have to remember that all we have shown is only 2 multiplayer levels.

2-Have you redesign the controls to play similarly to Halo or do you have the same style as Perfect Dark on the N64 ?

RARE: Both. There are some things similar to Halo, and some things keep the same feel of the original Perfect Dark on N64. Obviously, the control has been amplified to give you a brand new set of moves like rolling and taking cover. Half of the team wants to have the control feel similar to Halo, the other half wants the same feel of the original Perfect Dark. I can tell you that the teams are balancing the controls.

3-It has been mentioned before that there are 28 weapons in Perfect Dark Zero, a lot less weapons than Perfect Dark on the N64. Can you explain why?

RARE: Perfect Dark on the N64 had more weapons, but you couldn’t use all of them on multiplayer and they didn’t have secondary fire.
On Perfect Dark Zero, the secondary fire modes give the weapons more options and they are all unique and different. The weapons on PDZ will have more variety than the original.

4-Following our conversation about weapons; all the weapons we have seen, have options already seen in the original Perfect Dark. Can we expect surprises?

RARE: We have decided to show how our weapons have the best visual effects ever seen. Are there new weapons with secondary mode? of course. One of the weapons that we will have, can project holograms as a bait that represents a character while making moves.

5-There seems to be a lot of focus on evasive maneuvers. Are there more movements like this?

RARE: There are more new moves on third person, but we are saving it for more surprises later on.

6- Is there an option to include our own face on the game ? Is this going to be included ?

RARE: No. It won’t be included.

7- Many Xbox live enabled games seem to have more focus on the online multiplayer mode. I think I speak for most gamers when I say that we don’t want the story mode to be a secondary thing. Can we keep calm and be confident that the single player campaign will rock ?

RARE: We agree with your statement; that’s why most of our team is working really hard on the campaign mode for Perfect Dark Zero. You will have more information about it later this year.

8- What can you tell us about the single player? How many missions? How many new gameplay features can we expect ?

RARE: We can tell you for sure that the single player mode will have a similar feel as the original Perfect Dark but it will have much more replay value; and now with Xbox live there are new possibilities………

9-We have all seen the comic of Perfect Dark Zero and have been wanting more for some time. When can you expect to have merchandising related to Perfect Dark?

RARE: We hope so. The comic has been really successful and there could be plans of more things like that.

I translated the interview.

I got it from a reliable source. It is a Rare fan site called http://www.mundorare.com and http://www.viciojuegos.com/reportaje.jsp?idReportaje=165&pagina=1
