Excellent Post Simon. A great read and

That's exactly it. I mean you have this huge set of moves and you're basically thrown into a just as huge city and just GO NUTS! This amazing sense of freedom is just something THAT NO OTHER game has offered before.
And certainly not so convincingly! Im constantly amazed how Altair can recognize what is climbable and what isnt, and react realistically by shifting his weight, etc. Whoever did the animations for this game should get promoted.

Well I would disagree, yes the cities are huge but they are all very similar, so it loses points for that IMO.

I think Dead Rising (a game I detest) did a better job at the whole huge area/freedom thing.

Brilliant post Simon. I can relate to that line for line. That's exactly how I played Splinter Cell and so far in Assassins Creed I've just been running around and killing as I please.
I think I will try and slow it down a bit and see If I can get the same satisfaction I got from playing SC.

Since the get go I've been comparing this game to splinter cell, and in that respect I wish AC had more stealthy elements.

I can in a sense understand why people are slating the combat. It is more or less one button combat. BUT, I think the combat's brilliant. When you execute a counter move it's just so satisfying!

The best aspect of combat for me though is when you're on the horse. You can just slaughter a massive hoard of enemies - it's flipping greeeaatttt.

I dont get how a simple combat mechanic like the one in AC makes it bad. why? because its not as combo heavy or flashy as NG or DMC? I dont think that's fair, its a different style game, its a bit slower, but more methodical. And your absolutely right blmbox, it is very satisfying to pull off those counters. lol, i dont think i would make a good assassin, i get into too many fights. :P

Exactly its not supposed to be combo heavy like NG or DMC. Its more grounded in realism than either one of those games and I like it for that its different.

The best way I can put it is that I like the combat in AC better than the combat in ninja gaiden or devil may cry. I'm not saying I don't like the combat in those games, but I like the way ac's combat is setup. As they add more counter animations and expand the combat further it will only get better.

Im not sure i would say i like it better, but i like it for different reasons as you said Op. I think there's a place for both the NG/DMC style and the AC style, and just because AC's is simpler doesnt make it bad. You want more of a challenge? Try fighting the guards with nothing but your hidden wrist blade equipped.

Been there, done that!

Although I found out you could do such a thing nearly in the end of the game :P
Then form that point on, if you use the wrist blade and there is like 2-3 soldiers left, its likely that 1-2 of them will run away from you.

One Button Combat ? NO WAY

You attack with X, block with the Right Trigger, Grab and Throw with the Right Trigger and the B button pressed together and you can counter grab with them too. Evade with the right riger and the A button when timed properly. it's in NO way a one button combat.

It is INCREDIBLY realisitc and this is what makes it SHINE!

When people say one button combat they mostly talk about the "attack" meaning the SWORD attack only, which is stupid.

As long as the character is hurting the enemy like hitting, or grabbing them and throwing them, its still combat/fight.

And yeah, no way its a one button combat.

Hell Fable 2 is gonna have the same type of button layout for its attacks.

Exactl Sath. I was going to mention Fable but then decided not too. I dont want to judge the game's combat just yet when we have seen nothing of the game yet :)

Better believe it I'm not going to sit here and act like dmc or ninja gaiden are the only acceptable forms of combat a game can have. Assassin Creed's combat is different and its extremely fun. It's suppose to have a more realistic nature than what we are use to seeing in Ninja Gaiden or DMC. AC with ninja gaiden or dmc style combat just wouldn't work. I maintain my opinion that Assassin's Creed's combat is the most rewarding experience I've had killing an enemy in a videogame in a very long time.

The simplistic combat in AC (because I agree that it's simplistic) is because you were never meant to slaughter countless people in it. Fighting was supposed to be a last resort and ONE BLOW would kill you. This is what they said at an E3 long ago, and since then they've given you life bars to make the game more forgiving, revealing the combat to be surprisingly basic.

The animation is so good that you get the impression that it isn't basic, but it's a sugar high that I reckon passes with time. Anyway, the explanation for not making it deeper is there.

Correct!

AC is more about timing, wile NG and DMC, especially NG is more about timing and then hitting button to make big combos so they are 100% dead.

But in AC they wen't for that realistic combat, which is very cool, something we have seen in movies like Gladiator, King Arthur, Kingdom of Heaven.

Besides, the killing in AC is just rewarding and gives you a feel you striked down your enemy perfectly.

And now NG2 is gonna have this brutal bloodfest, so its gonna be awesome.

i don't know if this question has been answered...

When you beat the game and go back after the credits...is there anything more to do than replay levels and find flags?

The game's main storyline just seemed to have have ended rather abruptly and I wasn't really satisfied and was only left to say "that was it?"

XAL its only one part of a trilogy, patience. As for going back and replaying levels, you can also go around and find and kill the hidden templars, i know, i know, that's not much of a replay value, but its something at least.

I thought it was fun....

I got it today, at first i thought, hey this is pretty good, then it just went downhill, i mean, i can't even effing walk past guards without them attacking me, seriously wtf, so effing frustrating, all you want to do is kill someone and the crappy lock on barely works so they see you and bang, got 30 guys on your arse. God this is pissing me off.
