Apart from... being like that in Firefly first.. you know.. the series nobody watched.
Such a crying shame too.....

Blue Dragon is an unimaginative JRPG featuring a myriad of JRPG cliches and very redundant looking characters. To even call this game "original" in any way is an insult to every great JRPG made.

Such a crying shame too.....I guess people were to busy thinking they were intelligent watching shows like The Office (US) and Everybody Loves Raymond.

There's a documentary style camera Camera in Firefly. I am on episode 4 and I haven't really noticed that. Also it certainly wasn't the first.

I meant to add a '?' to the end of 'firefly' in my last post.

Firefly was the first to employ shakycam and out of focus effects to the CG sequences to make them look believable and gritty despite being futuristic sci fi space ships, yes.

And yeah Neo, but Buffy sure as heck wasn't better after 13 episodes.

Firefly, for its short run, was pretty astonishing in terms of what it managed to portray, character and history wise. I reckon Buffy needed at least two seasons to get where Firefly got in two episodes, characters wise. Of course, then Buffy continued to become my favourite show ever, (hitting similar strides in season 5) but anyway.. yeah. :)

Maybe in that very specific way. However, as far as grit and believability are concerned, it has been done in Sci fi long before. Blade Runner and Alien for instance come to mind. However, cinemetography semi-landmarks aside, it is a pretty damn good show from what I have seen so far (episode 10)... however, Battlestar Galactica is dramatically better.

It's a pointless thing to argue since you clearly haven't watched Firefly and thus can't appreciate the similarities. The CG work is done by the same people on both shows, and in the BSG pilot they've even put the Firefly ship in there, flying by in the background.

First of all, even though I prefer BSG, that was a joke, Mr. E-serious (unless you actually think I put on battle armor). Maybe you thought the emoticon was a cannon with eyes.

Secondly, what I said was that Battlestar is better. Whether or not it has some visual similarities to or perhaps even draws some inspiration from Firefly is beside the point. If I say Battlestar is a better show, talking about the visual style hardly constitutes a worthy counter argument unless that is all you liked about Firefly.

Finally, I have watched most of Firefly. In fact I am more or less half way through episode 11 as we speak. Yes, there are similarities but they are mostly superficial. Besides what I said was "Battlestar Galactica is dramatically better" and "Battlestar has nothing to do with Firelfy."

Firefly was a very good show from what I have seen (the last episode was especially good) but I think Battlestar is better.

Firefly was a bit too much comedy western for me personally, it wasn't bad just not what I like in my sci-fi. It did convey the vastness of space quite well though.

I'm obviously not going all FACT about the quality of the entire series, I'm just defending the fact that the shakycam/focus stuff you see in BSG was used extensively - and attracted attention - in Firefly first. The team was then hired to make the CG stuff in BSG.
There's a documentary style camera Camera in Firefly[?] I am on episode 4 and I haven't really noticed that. Also it certainly wasn't the first.
It was in response to this.

I think both shows are brilliant, though I think BSG is only just now hitting its stride (third season). After 13 eps of BSG I insist that Firefly had achieved more, butthat'sjustopinion! :)

If they had premiered the show in the order Joss Whedon had intended the show probably would've been better recieved, or at the very least easier to follow. But FOX had no intention of continuing the series. They just didn't want to lose Joss to another network. I really hate FOX. They'll keep the Simpsons till the end of time and revive Family Guy as an unfunny zombie but they won't bring back the biggest potential cash cow they've ever had. The movie made about $30mil with its small cult following. Think if it had another season and had been shown in story sequence.

Fair enough, though I would say that BSG had already hit its stride after the miniseries.

Yeah I think it's had many moments of "so THIS is what the show is! - Brilliant!" but I feel very passionately about the Baltar storyline aboard the Cylon ship right now. I always LOVED Gaius, but right now it's bleeding poetry, and I think this is the way the show reaches heights and areas never traversed before in this genre/medium. It was great before this, but perhaps not in its very own special way, not as much as now anyway.

Spoilers above are for season 3 of BSG up until the current ep.

Yup that storyline is just brilliant, it was in the original series of course but not handled with anywhere near this quality of writing. It's like a David Lynch movie at times.
