On another note, my brother is playing through the game in easy and my god do they mean easy. I watched him take down a big daddy with less than half a magazine from the machine gun.
I love the immersion and suspence in this game, everything atmospheric works really well, very impressive indeed. But the controls are clunky and aiming is unnecessarily difficult without the extreme auto aim, which eliminates precision targeting.
The story seems to be coming together well but like the EGDE review (I think) said, it doesnt build upon the awesome opening 1hr, although i havent yet completed it yet, the game fails to maintain that level of enoyment and excitement, i'd say that opening is still the most enjoyable part of the game. Another thing, the game very linear, not much variety during progression and the level design is very corridoor-esque.
All in all, the graphics are stunning, especially the water(best water ever), the powers are sometimes genius, weapons feel solid/convincing and theres loads of great unique ideas , the music is good too. Although it may not be as groundbreaking as some reviewers say imo, its still a great game, the best FPS i've played in a while, i would give it 8/10.
p.s. Anyone tried unlocking the framerate? It looks great (much better) at 60fps even with the evident V-sync issues
The fans have spoken. Concerning the graphics of the Halo 3 Beta: "There's so many little effects and things going on that make this game pretty much 2nd only to Gears at the moment."
As far as graphic wise, it's really next gen, sure some textures doesn't look so great when you stand 1cm from it, but who does that anyway, just running around and watching the beautiful water effects( best ever ) and the great lightning effects and you see that it's a beautiful game.
The uses of plasmids and tonics is really implemented in a great way into the gameplay, you really can't live without them, and the tactical side of it sense you can't equip them all at once. And the also that you can upgrade your weapons is a really nice feature. Not like in other FPS ( say FEAR ) where many levels look very much like each other, here you really get to see a the city of Rapture, and i must say i loved every bit of it, no level looks like the previous one they all look like you ventured into a new part of the city. I got the happy ending and i actully got tuched by it, by far one of the best endings iv ever witnessed in a game , 250 achievmentpoints to anyone who doesn't feel the same ^^.
The only downsides i feel in this game is the way you die, it's really not like dying, more like getting a other chance, no real damage in getting yourself killed by that Big Daddy, just run back and try it again, but after a while of doing that you will eventually use up all your ammo and you have to run around trying to kill stuff with the wrench ( witch can be a bit troubeling on hard and on the later levels ), and one more downside of this way of death is that some times you will find yourself being resurrected some distance from the place you actually died.
I would rate this game 9/10 gameplay wise ( story etc easily 10/10 ) but the death system drags the score down. But it's for sure a must have in your game library!
Imperius Rex!
I'm also a few hours in and loving every bit, although like you i wouldn't give it a 10/10 of course. Metacritic has it at an average score of 9.6, which i think is about it, from my current experience. Funny thing is unlike you, i'm feeling that the game is getting better, and i'm getting more immersed as the game progresses, despite of course the good opening, mainly because the story really gets you! And the voice acting (that you get from the audio diaries and radio messages) is one of the best i've seen.
I'll save the rest of my impressions to when i finish it.
On a side note, i'm going for rescuing all the little sisters (100pt achieve), but i think i missed one from the first level. How does this go, i'll only get these points for rescuing all the little sisters i've encountered (as opposed to harvesting some) or rescuing EVERY little sister in the game? If the later, can i just load an old save, go to this first level and rescue her as well or i cannot do it anymore, since there's no way to go back, except loading?
Now i refuse to buy the game until i can do it blindfold, in my sleep and covered in syrup.
Is there an easy way?
I'm Spartacus!
I find the hacking mini game a nice touch and adds variety, but it's getting a lot harder now :(
I use auto-hack for the safes, because it just goes to fast... I haven't tried freezing a safe yet, but it should be able to slow down the flow speed.

I Finally managed to get around to playing Bioshock today and all I have to say is WOW, what an impressive title, What a great atmosphere, brilliant gameplay! It doesnt get better than this in this genre. I am hooked, 4 hours straight non stop!

It's pretty and the story is fine, the system for character management is like that of system shock 2 but more stupid and...well, in all fairness it IS System Shock 2 with overhauled graphics and the derelict space station replaced with a derelict underwater city, not to mention the more console friendly interface. Also the hacking is way to easy and, in all honesty, just boring and stupid as well. Wtf, it's like "should we do a stat check or should we make a mini game that you can, if you suck nuts, fail at and then just try again one hojillion times? Let's go with the mini game!".
Bioshock did many things right but it did many things utterly backwards too. Ah well, it's still a good experience at the end of the day.
