So my living room is done at long last ...yey me..

anyway i have a sealed unit for my 360-ps3-amp-sky HD box

all 4 get very hot (ps3 i could of cooked a egg on it last night i forgot to leave cabinet open and ps3 shut down due to heat .... poor thing)

So what i was going to do was fit USB powered fans on the side of cabinet (pc fans attached to usbs) the fans then will plug into sky-360-ps3 and only come on when that machine is on

But for the pc users out there should i have the fans pumping the air out or in, or have multiple fans shooting air in and out? and should i go for 120 fans or just use the standard 90s? i was thinking the bigger the fan would be quieter..

At the very least, hook up some exhaust fans, but ideally you would want both. Don't do intake only though, as that doesn't work as well as exhaust only.
Now, if you do exhaust only, leave an opening somewhere on the opposite side of the unit (or as close to the opposite side as you can) for air to flow through.

Of course, the more fans you have the more air flow you are going to have, but you'll want to keep the brunt of them for exhaust.
So, say you have three fans, I'd make two of them exhaust and the remaining one intake.

Try to keep your intakes towards the bottom of the unit, and the exhaust fans toward the top.

The fans will probably be running at 100% speed, correct? (concerning noise)

Oh, you might want to cut out some vinyl window screen and put a couple layers over the outside of your intake fan(s) to control dust, one layer at 90 degrees and the other at 45 degrees, with the "X's" of the second layer covering the square openings of the previous layer. Just super-glue the layers together and be sure to clean off any dust accumulation regularly.

Cheers plumb for the ideas :)

i have some speed control fans (120s) will use them for intake, and i have dust fabric to go over them to catch the dust so i can just hoover them up, obviously they will be on the outside so air is been sucked through them and not pushed out of them..

the exhausts will be most possibly full speed o.0 until i get some more speed control ones

But yeah cheers for the advise, specially on exhausts been up top.. i never thought of that lol

Mate, go for the same `mm amount` on the intake as the outtake. Eg: 2 x 120mm intake fans on the front and 2 x 120mm exhaust fans at the rear. Like Plumb said, you`ll want both sets for effective airflow.

If I were you dude, I`d run them off a mains adapter. It`s fairly straight forward. Here is a descriptive link:

And here`s a video guide:

Regarding the mains adapter that the guy uses, I`m sure I`ve got loads of them you could have, so let me know if you want me to bring one over when me and Marie pop up on Friday night.

does anyone know, if I use my stock cooler will I have issues down the line?

i7 920

what if I get rid of cooling altogether, would it stop overheating?
It seems like the cooling is causing my problems, like the cpu is overheating by trying to keep itself cool.

Is this a fur test?

I'll try taking that stuff off then. I knew it wasn't worth the extra purchase.
