Inscrit depuis 7697 JoursI thought I'd open a DoA5 thread, because it's about time. Although I really like Itagaki, I am happy to see the slightly older approach on the woman this time 'round. I also hope they take story mode into a new direction, as they did with the 3DS version. I really thought it was something fresh and new in beat-em-up's.
First screens of DoA5 were also very nice, I hope Team Ninja pulls it off with a smooth sixty. Here are some brand-new screens.

Inscrit depuis 7445 JoursHopefully the characters have an overhauled new moves this time and from what I saw on that full gameplay trailer of Hayate and Ryu, they do exactly the same moves from DOA4 and 3 with added special moves, so its a big meh to me.
I like that they went to a more realistic art approach compared to previous games though.

Inscrit depuis 7578 JoursI'll be getting it. I own every DOA game ever made. I don't take the franchise too seriously but it oozes style and I can appreciate that. I'm just far more excited about Soul Calibur and the final release of VF5.. and even KOF13 (mad at myself for not buying this) and maybe SFxTekken. I think it's a bit of a shame that people here mostly ignore the genre. It's still pretty good.
It also seems like every game needs to use the same exact control set these days or people can't be bothered to learn how to play them too. I'm actually happy that there are people excited about DOA.
Getting way more on subject: The last batch of screens were cool and all but Hitomi's outfit sucks. And lets face it.. this game is all about how good our favorite characters look.

I'm not actually agreeing with Tinks though. I don't actually understand the joy that comes from it not being included in the tournament circuit. But I guess DOA is all about loving the look and "feel."
Inscrit depuis 6881 JoursPersonally I can't wait for this! DoA4 was not my fav. doa. It felt...weird/clunky sometimes.
I find DoA3 to be the best in the series, closely followed by 2.
Does anyone remember the first time he/she played DoA3. The amazing graphics. I was wowed back then.
The snow level.....and that tall glass building level...ohh the sweet memories.

Perhaps ur just not that good at the game? Maybe had some bad 'experiences' with it?
I love the DoA series and I will get the game day1.. AND I will kick alotsa ass online.
(Even though the online can be a lag-fest sometimes, I'm looking at you DoA4 and DoAD)

How do you excuse the ridiculous counter windows for one? It's completely game breaking so far as i'm concerned.
Science, bitches. It works.
Inscrit depuis 6881 JoursI just find it amusing how you try to make it all sound like ur 'experience' and your 'general understanding' is all that matters.
Well...hate to burst your bubble but....ur just one guy against millions of DoA-gamers (who play other fighters as well).
Maybe you're taking gaming a bit 2 seriously with all that 'tournament' stuff.
Again, I love the game, I am good at it. Not sure what you mean by bedroom warrior....
Does bedroom warrior mean I will be enjoying the game @home with friends and stuff? Yeah then...I guess I am proud to be one.
I enjoy games, as a hobby....not a sport/job.
ps: as for the counter windows...many with me agree that the whole counter-system is what makes DoA enjoyable. Trying to compare it with other games, is to me, a silly thing to do. This is DoA. Take it or leave it.
PS PS: Also...just to make it clear. I am not trying to be disrespectful in any way. I say that, cuz many people tend to take my words the wrong way. I can sound like a bitch sometimes (Online), but yeah..nothing personal and stuff. (I like a good conversation @ times)
Inscrit depuis 7445 JoursFast, very acrobatic moves, easy to get into get hard to master, multiple level environments (I LOVE the one on the high mountains in DOA3 when you keep falling, so awesome).
And of course, Hayate, Ryu, Ayane!
Inscrit depuis 6904 JoursA bedroom warrior is someone who thinks they are awesome at a game and know everythin about it because the are the best in their little circle of friends. Usually this results in severe rape once said perons skills is put to the test with a more competitive player.
I don't think i'm taking it too seriously. Fighters become the most fun at a high level, when skill, more often than luck, decides games. When both players understand the system and characters of the game, and you can start actually playing with strategy.
I still just see DoA as a fas, flashy fighter but unfortunately with little substance. Games like Soul Calibur does the same concept a lot better and with considerably more interesting game systems. That's all. The most unique feature in DoA is the stages, but to be fair i'm not sure how much i like that idea to begin with. It can create a lot of weird situations that you can't really forsee and reading the game is pretty much the basics of any fighter...less random = better imo. It sure does look fancy though.
But sure, for the more casual players i guess DoA is great. Whatever floats your boat.
Science, bitches. It works.
Inscrit depuis 7461 JoursThe whole elitist bullshit that comes with those other fighters can get stuffed.
I don't care if I'm crap at a game as long as I'm having fun.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
Inscrit depuis 7508 JoursIf I wanted a tournament fighter I have plenty to choose from.
I realize what you prefer as you've expressed it here numerous times. This game doesn't fit the mold of the tournament culture and it doesn't require you to study the game like you were taking a class in college.
I like DOA because I consider it a "casual" fighter. I'm not interested in investing a shit load of time in a fighting game, I just like beating stuff up sometimes and for it to look cool while I do it.
I'm not interested in playing a game where some kid who spends all his free time mastering it's intricate systems just tools on me and I have no hope against. A fighting game is different for me than it is for you.
What you call botched or a broken system, I call personal preference.

What you call personal preference I call a really average game. And it's sorta funny how you can't seem to find the joy in gaming lately, pointing out how games are getting worse--and yet you flock to one of the lesser examples of this genre. It saddens me that people can't be bothered to learn how to play a game anymore. What, the rules don't fit a subset of rules I'm already familiar with? Screw this! MASH BUTTONS!
I'd also like to point out that so far as your position here is concerned I do not think that Megido or myself have actually disagreed with you directly. You said you see DOA as a fun, light and easy casual affair. That's also how I see it, and also how I'll be enjoying the game. It's not actually worth putting a lot of time into learning DOA, because it's not nearly as rewarding in return.
Inscrit depuis 7508 JoursIt doesn't really exist, and hasn't for quite some time. Every game I get I put on "hard" or the highest difficulty.
My problems with playing games nowadays is I've been playing them since I was a kid and they've hit a ceiling. Games feel too familiar and ideas too recycled with the dollar in mind. It has nothing to do with learning curves.
For fighters yeah I want a low learning curve. I don't find the learning curve in fighters appealing whatsoever. I don't want to spend that much time on any fighter because that's how I feel about the genre. It's not how I feel about other genre's however.
Also to clarify, my statements are mostly aimed at Megido who talks down on this fighter every chance he has. He talks down on it for it not being a tournament fighter, so I say otherwise every time.
Also it's not a lesser example. It fulfills a niche within the fighting genre that doesn't appeal to Megido. It doesn't make it a broken or bad game.
It's never filled with glitches, it's graphics and and art are always top notch, it plays well, music/sound is good.
It's not the only franchise I've played. I've tried just about every fighting franchise that's on the market right now with the exception of the new KOF.
I enjoyed Blazblue till I felt they were robbing me and giving me a fraction of what I paid for.
I also used to enjoy MvC till the latest iteration took a step down from 2.
I look forward to DOA because I'm not enjoying the franchises that have been more active recently.
Inscrit depuis 7578 JoursThis game has been recycled plenty with mostly cosmetic updates along the way, perhaps more so than any other fighting game.
Inscrit depuis 7508 JoursThe last iteration of Dead or Alive came out in 2005. I've seen 3-4 iterations of Street Fighter come out in the past two years, 3-4 iterations of Blazblue, ETC.
It makes me all the more ready for this franchise.
Also maybe it is recycled too. It just further explains why I'm getting tired of what has been coming out.
It's all the same!
I look forward to DOA because maybe just maybe it will be refreshing to play amongst all these other franchises I mention.
Inscrit depuis 7578 JoursI'm actually surprised you don't like MvC3. It's all about being easy and accessible. It's also a sequel to a game that hadn't been renewed in much longer. Aren't these things that you like about Dead or Alive?
And what makes DOA sit so comfortably at the bottom of the ladder? Basically all of the things you seem to love about it (and hate about other games) :D
Inscrit depuis 6904 JoursAny game works if you are just mashing out. I mean, you don't have to learn how Tekken works to pick Hwoarang and push buttons (substitute for any fighter really, i just go with the one i'm most familliar with), so i don't see why DoA is more appealing in that sense eiter. It's just a very mediocre fighter.
Science, bitches. It works.
Inscrit depuis 7508 JoursAccessibility exists in all games always. I can dislike games for being too accessible, or not accessible enough. DOA is in a tier that I prefer.
Your opinion of the changes in these fighters differ than mine.
