The combat looks the same as any other Fantasy RPG nothing special about it at all, what draws me to an RPG is an interesting world to explore, with a great story and characters, i have not seen any of that in this game yet, hence my lack of excitement for it.

And still we haven't seen evidence Grift, of wich openworld games has this type of polished (almost action game) combat.

Nothing, just some random "same as everything out there" "dull" "nothing impressive"

I wouldn't say the combat is 'the same' as other RPGs - but that doesn't make it good.

Again, standard heavy/light attacks with abilities and stuff thrown in. What's so incredible about it exactly?

I get it this might not be for everyone.

But to me looks really good and i like fantasy settings. Considering the scale of the game, and the details on the big enemies/inside towns it looks very good. Let's not forget this is a open rpg like the Elder scroll series. The atmosphere at night and inside dungeons looks great, horror like almost, quite spooky!

You meet all sorts of people and merchants traveling around. There are stores and buildings to enter with no loadings, can climb buildings. Can also mess around with wildlife, hunting etc. There's a reputation system and you are treated accordingly. There is LOT of loot to find, and lot of stuff to explore.

The combat is action heavy, wich makes it an action rpg. There are three main classes: Mage, Strider and Fighter. Then there's hybrid vocations, magic archer, mystick knight, assassin, sorceror etc. You can change this anytime inside towns as skills. Can't change skills outside of towns/inns, so have to pick carefully, or might have need to run!
Also have to keep an eye on your stamina! If it runs out you wont be able to attack, and if you run out of stamina when climbing an enemy you will fall.

There are plenty of videos out there showing off different skills, Mage looks great to me.

Then there's the pawns, wich looks to me really interesting.

When you start the game you will need to create your own character and a constant sidekick (pawn). Have to choose well, if you pick a mage might be best pick a warrior etc.
And then there's room for 2 more pawns, wich you can hire around on the world, or even use pawns from others players online. This pawns are varied, can be a thief, mage, etc. Got to pick a well balanced party. You can hire lower level pawns, wich will be free, and when you kill enemies you gain more XP, but on harder enemies they won't be of much help. Then there's the higher lvl pawns, wich are much more expensive to hire but bigger help!

And this leads us to how pawns work online. As i said you can hire pawns from other players, and check whats their skills, levels, see wich enemies he faced or even if he faced enemies still unknown to you, wich is good, since in case you meet new enemies, they will know extra techniques and their weaknesses! And this applies to your own main pawn, wich you can let other people hire him, and then he brings new experience on how fight some new enemeis if he meets them. When you return a pawn, you can rate him, if he helped you etc, even send a gift through him to other players, so they will know if he was good etc.

And this just seems the tip if the iceberg, lots of stuff we don't even know yet. Looks really fun to me, really tempting me to get it, but Diablo 3 next month :)

To end here's another video i found: 27 minutes.

Hate to get all Sathy on ya, but movement and interaction with the world/npc's looks fantastic, and it looks a good bit deeper than you're giving it credit for too. Add to that a party system completely absent from most other fantasy RPG's, magic that blows away anything you'll find in Skyrim, and I'm just loving it. Loving the thief videos. And I was so sold on the mage. Everyone is in hype mode for The Witcher, which has a pretty dang simple combat system itself. Not bad, but not terribly deep either. I'd say compared to other RPG's, this stands out plenty. Which is probably why nobody can seem to find a good example of a game that makes the combat in this game look average.

If the world is large and interactive, that puts it several paces ahead of most RPG's released recently. Bethesda has spoiled me here. I'm not much into being funneled from cage to cage, a la Mass Effect or The Witcher anymore. I need openness and interactivity, or I'll find myself pulled out of the experience very quickly.

Also, dat nighttime. I'm with you on this one all the way Uruk. It looks extremely solid.

So, it's Skyrim (Elder Scrolls) or Monster Hunter + Kingdom Under Fire?

I'm getting conflicting info here on what exactly this game will play like. Co-op or no co-op? Or, sp only with AI teammates, etc anyone know for certain?

If it's anything like KUF I'll be all over it.

Console only I assume.

So far.. Uruk posted some quotes that implied a possible PC release. It's Capcom so it could really go either way.

No co-op.

There's no co-op, only SP. It's you plus 3 AI controlled NPC's (called pawns on this game). The only online feature is the ability to share pawns online, and use other pawns from other players.

Yeah only 360/ps3. But there might be a chance for a PC version....we will see.

Here's lots of new info, from Gaf, wich is from gamefaqs:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3696595...
* Data on the name, sex, class, level and skills of your Pawn are all automatically added to any photos of it that you take - and photos can be taken at any time you can pause the game. As the photos are all saved on Capcom servers they can be used to search for the Pawns they they show in action.

* All quests are ongong simultaneously, and there seems to be no limit on the number you can take. E.g. there is a quest to kill 45 rabbits, or collect 30 of an certain item; but as you can just have them running in the background, killing a rabbit whenever you see one, gardually collecting the items, eventually you get there without it feeling like so much of a focused grind.

* As (al?)l items carry over to the 2nd playthrough you may finally clear a quest on your second time through the game!

* Quests also have an inter-connected relationship between them. E.g. there is a quest to collect 60 skulls, which are really hard to find, but then another quest shows up with a reward of 50 skulls. There's lots of this kind of thing, apparently.

* They talk about it being best to play through your first time without looking at any guides or sites - you are safe to get anything you miss on the second time. Even the development staff try to avoid playing it with materials etc. as much as possible; the director(?) says he "made exactly the kind of game I want ot play myself" and "I wish I could wipe my memory of everything about this game and play it from scratch after it comes out!"

* You can also search for the Pawns of people who have borrowed your own Pawn. So if they send you a nice item, comment or do a lot for your Pawn in terms of knowledge, you can easily borrow their's in return and pay them back in kind.

* Most things smaller than a person (chairs, crates, bushes) that can't be destroyed don't have hit detection at all - so if you attack them, you don't get a "thunk" or whatever, you're weapon just goes through them.

* One reason given is "it's just annoying if you hit everything around you." A more important reason is "The game hardly ever slows down. We've done all we can to remove unnessecary processing, and this means you can have 2 or 3 or even 4 major spells all going off at the same time." (Someone better get a photo or two of that in action!)

* On character growth - "when you change Class your parameters don't change. Whichever class you are when you level up influences which stats will grow - so fighters will get more strength, wizards more magic. Therefore, an Assassin who was formly a Warrior and an Assassin who was formerly a Strider will have very different stats from each other. If a character with no experience with magic becomes a Sorcerer, to start with their magic will be very weak. If you stick with them, however, their magic will grow quickly and you'll be okay.

* Asks the Director which class he likes - "I like the Magic Archer. The Magic Archer is the strongest character when inside a dungeon! At least, he is for me! He has some moves that are much stronger when inside a dungeon.

* They then say that trying to pick a class is a lot like trying to pick a weapon when Monster Hunter first came out (indeed it is!)

* Everything that should be handled like a game, is handled like a game. All the quests you have taken are listed and managed for you, and you can set a marker that directs you to your next objective.

* In every build of the game up until quite recently, when knocked over from being hit you couldn't use a potion. This meant you died all the time. That wasn't much fun, and so it was changed. It isn't about being overly hard, just challenging in a fun way.

* No friendly damage. Explosive barrels etc. don't hurt you or your allies.

* "It isn't that hard to make great AI. You just need to deal with a lot more factors. We have a wide range of Pawns, and some of them are very stupid. If a Pawn doesn't know how to fight a certain monster, it will fight really badly. If you just see that, you may well think "This game sucks!" Please don't! A Pawn with the correct knowledge will act totally dfferently. My request to the AI Supervisor was "make AI that lets the player have the most fun!" The first priority in making the game has always been "THE AI MUST BE INCREDIBLE!"

* This must have been mentioned before, but - you can borrow Pawns from people on your friends list for free. "Some people thought it might break the balance of the game, but we wanted to give people playing it for the first time a leg-up. I think that's one of the reasons Monster Hunter Portable got its big break - people more advanced in the game can help their beginner friends to do quests and get into it. With DD, you can say "If you need some help, just borrow my Pawn!", and you don't even have to be online to do it! (I can see people with high Lv. Pawns getting lots of friend requests!)

* It's very much a "game" when it comes to defeating monsters. "Monsters can seem really tough and kill you quickly to start with, but once you know the correct way to defeat them, you can take them down really quickly."
Looking really cool. This might be surprise game of 2012 for me :)

It looks more interesting then the borefest skyrim. But that might not be saying much. I'll give it a go come release, but i still can't get over the lack of co-op for a game so focused on having a "team" with you at all times. It makes no sense. Kinda like killzone 2, you always had another guy there at all times, but no co-op. was weird.

The difference is those billions of other RPG's have a empty, unintelligent shell of a person walking around with you. In this it seems like they are actively trying to make the AI feel like real people. They have names and vitals above their head, they can do everything the player can do, including jumping up sheer rock surfaces, and they constantly banter between each other. If you're going to so much effort to make a team of AI feel like real players, why not just do the obvious and alow them to be controlled by real players? It doesnt make sense to me. Retarded decision is retarded.

This could have been something different in a sea of samey fantasy RPG's, it could have been the borderlands of fantasy RPG's. But nope.

Personally, I think there's plenty that sets this apart from the "sea of samey fantasy RPG's" already. And are there really that many "samey fantasy RPG's?"

PS. The Borderlands of fantasy RPG's is Diablo, duh.
