Well I have the wheel, and I've been racing on the Forza 2 Demo about every other night, since it came out. I'm still more consistent with the controller I believe, although I haven't played with the controller since the first night, but I'm starting to get better with the wheel.

One thing I'd like to stress... with all of the assists turned off, I do much better it seems. The driving seems more natural. I had my best race of the evening after running with the assists all night, I figured... hey I'll try it without the assists on. Hoping to get 6th or 7th in the Lexus, I ended up getting 1st place. It seems that the assists seem to play with my driving a bit, that makes it "feel" less intuitive, especially the corners.

I'd recommend everyone who hasn't tried unassisted driving to race with assists on for a couple of races in the demo, then turn them off, and see how you do, especially if you have a wheel... one final note, I am still racing in automatic... not ready to try fully manual just yet.

I'm having fun with this demo!

Oh and I've mentioned it before... the replays suck... could they be fixed in a patch?

Sorta hard to do with the wheel. Wish they'd let you free look w/ the second player pad while you were in replay.

@Jin, no no. I know the lack of spoiler, even in a straight line at high speeds makes a difference, a slight careless movement without the added down force leads to a crash, that's what I meant. Without the spoiler the car feels really touch, very light. This is never reflected in Forza.
Ok sure... If you say so...
Posted by LEBATO
And yes, the front bumper does affect aerodynamics and of course turning, isn't it common sense? Again, since you have GTR, try it out. Oh, never mind, it's unrealistically hardcore for you. That's why I said you have to take it very slowly on the turn, any substantial speed and the car will barely turn. That's just how it is, sorry to break it down for you. Have you seen even Nascar? Do you see them race with substantial body damage? How about F1, a slight damage and they will either take VERY slow or they are simply out. That's just how it is. So yes, it does make the difference I suggest.
LoL, not even gonna bother with this arguing with you anymore, you clearly dont know what your talking about when it comes to cars, You even think an F1 car is the same as a normal car. If you think what you say is correct, then you really have ALOT to learn.

Yeah with the wheel, there is no free look.

After driving with assists off for a few races, I ended up turning ABS back on. I was locking up my brakes too often, and skidding out of control, but I still have traction and stability off.

Just takes getting used to thats all. I'm now racing with no assists, and manual. So much deeper gameplay that way and a lot more satisfying when you win.

I've yet to use the assists to any serious extent, but who knows maybe when I start tuning these cars up I might have to use some.

So guys I'm interested in knowing something about the assits. Are they real life options that are actually available to these cars (I'm not a car guy so I know nothing) or are they just game related things designed to help people out?

For example without ABS would my car still perform like ABS is on if I'm handling the car right or am I totally getting rid of a real option an actual racer would put on his car to improve braking or traction?

Well, it hasn't really recieved any half reliable scores yet. Still waiting for other than the usual "review copy for our 9s and 10s!" places to score it.

I usually put a lot of faith into Famitsu scores, but with titles like these, their reviews seem like dice throws.

I never know what to think about Famitsu's reviews.. but I know the text seems to be short and if translations are to be believed they're not exactly the best critics out there. I expect Forza to do pretty well with the critical crowd across the board though. Not going to make any estimates or anything but I expect it to have a pretty high average.

They are there to help people out with the game.. Not all cars have those assists onboard in real life.. I.e. TVR doesn't even have ABS on their cars, let alone TCS, in the game though they do just like any other car in the game.. So game-assists, not real life simulaton..

Makes me wonder, will there be an option as host of a online game to set the assists people are allowed to use in your game? I hope so.. Because it's kindof stupid if you try to race with assists off while others have them all on making things a lot easier for them.. In my games I would only allow ABS..

With games originating from Japan they're still very reliable, and in the past they've been refered to as "the video game bible" and the "japanese EDGE". It's in reviewing western titles that they've gotten a bad reputation, but I think it's only natural. We give a lot of japanese games good/bad scores because they're exotic/we don't get them, too.

I'm just say'n.. from what I've seen they're certainly no EDGE. Unless translations I've seen have been really bad.. well their reviews are like a paragraph long.. and not a good one at that. They're more like a Japanese EGM if you ask me. A panel of reviewers, and none of them are that good! :P

According to the Gamespot hands-on you have this option to lock assists if you want.
We don't know all of the details on Forza 2's multiplayer game, but we do know that it will offer tournaments hosted by Microsoft, as well as provide the host of races with even more options than before for creating just the type of race session you want. If you want to lock in everyone at the same difficulty level (including assists), you'll be able to do so or leave it wide open for everyone to compete as they see fit.

Yep you'll be able to restrict people to a certain assits or force no assists :)

2 of Polish biggest console magazines gave it early notes of 9+/10 based on preview build. Polish biggest console website gave it 9/10 (early note based on preview build). I imagine the game really delivered core experience that was promised...
edit: I know you don't care about Polish magazines though ;)

Well it's not that they're polish, it's just that they're early.

Early reviews, especially with a strange absence of reviews from the bigger sites like IGN and Gamespot, usually aren't very reliable.

Sonic The Hedgehog got 9.5 from Play Magazine, after all.
