I hate how Microsoft doesn't put these games on PC...damn 360 exclusives!! Game looks very tight though, the engine upgrades alone are drool worthy

Me too, but I understand why they do it. Their first party line up is already looking a little weak without people second guessing the exclusivity of those titles.

Gears handles well enough on the 360 for what it's worth. I'm psyched that they're going to included dedicated servers for Gears 3. The game suffers tremendously because of host advantage. Hopefully Gears 3 will have Gears 1 levels of lovely level design too.. it could be the multiplayer hit of the year on the 360.. for me anyway.

yea one hand they say they want to promote PC gaming with the new Windows 8 and on the other hand all their efforts go towards the 360...not to mention they let go or killed any decent first party support they had (awful move)

MS won't be able to run this 360 first approach for long. They'll have to promote their new Windows, and especially for the mobile market it's good to have good games early on.

They didn't push games for Windows 7 and it's the best selling Windows upgrade in a very long time.

The RPG layer to Gears 3 is probably just going to be some form of the rank system that is invading pretty much every shooter at this point. Who knows though. Epic seems to be one of the few that likes being inventive with what's out there, but I won't be surprised when it's a BFBC/COD style rpg layer.

There are definitely many decisions to be made by the teams you're speaking on. They have to decide a balance and make a decision on what is right and who they can potentially alienate. Some have more freedom than others. Companies like Bungie and EPIC may be some of the only companies who have the freedom to truly take the time on their games to work on both SP and MP equally.

$$$ is power always. Never has it been more blatant than this generation of consoles really.

Well of course it's me fantasising, but look at it from this perspective:

In 2010 for the first time more smartphones than PC systems were sold. That isn't merely a short term trend, it's a paradigm shift. MS completely overslept this development and now want their fair market share in a market dominated by Apple and Google. And since software sells hardware they'll have to promote it with a wide range of applications and games. What better way is there to win the gaming audience than with good exclusives?

It'll be very important to establish a big userbase early on. More customers attract more developers and makes the system more desirable. With Nokia on board (who made the partnership out of desperation, because they, too are on the loosing side), who are known to make very solid phones and have a large following, they could follow the concept of the Xbox and target the hardcore audience and later expand it.

Oh, I definitely agree that they'll make a big push on development for WP7. They're already doing that.
