I really cant understand people´s excitement about this trailer. sure I understand their excitement for the final game, but this trailer was so overhyped, dude, there was almost nothing new that I hadn´t seen on screens or that I hadn´t already read about. Sure the titans are freaking huge!!! but to me they totally failed in showing some distant views, where people can truly see the amazing scale. Instead they switched all the scenes pretty quickly.

Don´t get me wrong, the game will be most likely a hit, but this particular trailer was just a huge letdown to me. And by the way, I really cant see where this game outshines Uncharted 2 in the whole visual aspect!!! Just my personal impression.

It looks like this game will be the crazy action game of the year! At least from a visual and experience stand point. The doesn't need to be so technical(fighting system wise). Infact, deepening the combat would slow down the pacing they are going for...

I watched the trailer again in 1080p and what I noticed this time with the same character was that he isnt even holding the chain until he starts swinging it, the chain clips through it like two times until it is firmly in his hands to swing it...sloppy.

Its dissapointing to see such things in a trailer you are about to reveal to people.

Its like a busniess man is going to a important meeting to reveal his presentation to a few companies to buy an product, but the presentation and the product has such obvious flaws that others starts to lose interest in it.

I know I am being harsh, but c'mon, if it was another "generic" action game you guys would agree with me :P

Sath, I totally respect your opinions but I believe you are pointing out too much, and it might appear to some that you are actually trying to find something to mar the perfection... tbh, I believe the scale and cinematographic content on display here is so remarkbly and unprecedently over-whelming, that hardly anyone cares to look at a minor chain-swing clipping issue...
and those who do, also know that its less than most of the games already in the market, and such minorities(if they actually are in here, to start with) are a fixed asset of all the games. So, the epicness and most would say, transcendance, remains unmarred!!!

Lol no Thor.

That little clipping was ONLY him and Kratos on screen nothing else, how they managed to not see that is just before approving for a release...weird.

Like I said, visuals can be as badass as possible and story be as good as a great novel...but, it doesnt change the fact that we are going to play this game, and for people like me who are fans of the genre will spot these issues easily and be annoyed by it.
Some small enough not to care, but some so obvious and repeated that it starts to get tiresome.

This is a action game, so is NG, DMC, Bayonetta but those focus on combat as much as everything else, thats why GOW fails in comparison, and I hate Bayonetta but I am being honest, the combat is fantasticly smooth and great.

BTW, saying just because they got great visuals and scale and cinematic content we should forget stuff like this? hardly, maybe if it was minimum but not this obvious, 2 in the row.

IMO, I do think GOW3 will be a great experience, but for me, one time experience, and I am iffy about getting this game.
I am sure it will be one heck of a experience, but I dont know personally for replayvalue, I am not a big fan of the combat.

God of War has never been a game you replay though, it's like a Zelda or Sands of Time type deal where you have a ton of substance to its puzzles and set pieces, and once you're done you're really done.

I guess effectively I agree with your assessment, but I don't see it as a flaw on GOWs part, it's just a different kind of game to the japanese, hardcore arcade combat games.

Lol, it depends how well the combat is made, if its fun and polished and satistfying then I would play the single player again and again, just like NG2 (until Mission mode came out).
But whatever, I am just hoping for the best for the game...combat section anyways :P

But would you really though? I dunno, I'm a bit of a replayer myself but it certainly depends on how dynamic the game feels and how concentrated and "internally physically interesting" its gamey bits are. Sorry if that's a bit vague but I'm essentially talking about how flexible and addictive it is, and how that stuff is portioned throughout the game.

Uncharted 1 had many arena style battles where the difference was huge depending on what path you took through a scenario and how you positioned yourself. It didn't have a lot of padding either, but was a concentrated, pretty gameplay-centric game. For me that totally changed both with the length and with the structure of 2, where large parts will never actually change and never gave you that tactile feedback to feel addictive.

There are other examples I could make but I think that's one that illustrates it the best. For me GoW has always been the latter kind, the experience kind where too much of it is puzzles and non-flexible elements that play out the same way. Sure, I could see myself replaying it for the oohs and aahs when thing x and y happen because they're totally rad and so forth, but.. yeah.

I suppose that might be what you're getting at with satisfying combat though. For me though I would need it to be a more concentrated experience to feel compelled to go back through it.

Thats the thing aint it.

The reason why I like NG2s combat most of anything is because its complex, fresh and unique weapons to play around one, and all weapons are fun to use because of how much moves they can do.
And all weapons are so polished, so weighty and awesome to use, satistfying to no end.

I hate to replay a game just for the combat, thats why I wish arena mode comes with such games, but even that, if the combat is satistfying, fast and polished then its useless IMO.

I know the arena mode is in CE for GOW3, but the combat is what worries me, I hope it goes away though. I am 50/50 on the game so far because I dont know how much I will play it.

Exactly! Spot on. That's what I hamfistedly tried to articulate by saying "concentrated" gameplay. It's just too big of a hassle to go through a sprawling adventure that breaks up its addictive gamey bits with stretches of linear outcomes, be it puzzles in GoW's case, or pressing forward on a stick while things are falling apart in UC2's case.

The more I'm in control of a situation and have some sort of authority in what happens, even if it's on a fairly intimate level, I'm happier. The style of game that boils that down to the bare essentials for me is a truly brilliant puzzle game. Hell, I bought Tetris as a PSP Mini a while ago and I'm playing the shit out of that game because you go in there and you get right to its addictive mechanics.

This is what's so frustrating when games insist on either being so cinematic that they keep breaking up gameplay for me, or when they're being apologetic about the gamey bits. That even covers RPG battles. I love it when an RPG has great combat, a no nonsense battle transision and a lot of encounters. When it's stuck in this weird inbetween state, where it's like a super bland adventure game with a few fights sprinkled in that never get elaborate enough to get into the mechanics properly, that's like the worst thing ever for me.

But yeah, I agree that if the combat is really addictive and fun and there's no other way to spend time with it than to go through the campaign again, that can be incentive enough. Either way, even if GoW had the most awesome combat ever, the other elements of it, their market share in the overall experience and the length of that experience would prolly put me off going for a second run.

BUT HEY I'M REPLAYING MASS EFFECT LITERALLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER I FINISHED IT RIGHT NOW SO, LENGTH, HEH!! I dunno, ME is totally turning a lot of what I thought to be true upside down for me.

But yeah, I still think GOW3 will be substantial enough in terms of sheer length and content that it'll be worth picking up. I mean they're 20ish hour things, or have been so far at least.

Ever since NG1 I have said all games within this genre should have arena mode because thats where replayvalue lies, or new game+.

I dont mind to play campaign again, but atleast give me new game+ so I have all the stuff from my last playthrough so I can feel badass when I play.

What surprised me was Dante's Inferno. Had Resurrection mode which is New game+ and Gates of Hell (arena mode). Now they are adding a customizable mission mode feature and online co-op in Trials of St Lucia.

Customizing your own mission on what enemies, what levers, how many enemies and how tough....thats fantastic stuff, I wish NGS2 had this, so DI got the upper hand in arena mode feature.
And online co-op is pretty cool, same as NGS2.

But GOW3, so far nothing mentioned, doesn't have anything special like that for me to play it again. I know I wont play the SP more than 2 times, tops, and thats because of the "epic cinematic" approach but thats it.

Even Darksiders didnt have any of it which made me sad because I loved the combat once you max out War, but nothing so I stopped playing it.

I guess I have a hard time identifying with playing so few games, I enjoy practically every genre so if I stop playing a game that's kinda fine, I'll just move on to the next.

If a game really grabs hold and doesn't let go, like InFamous and AC2 did last year, I'll play them until the disc is like.. a small raisin.

If a game is just big and satisfying as an experience I don't really mind not being able to replay it.

Yeah but sometimes the first few levels or hours of games like this are boring to play again, especially when you know how the character is going to turn out later on.

Samething with Darksiders, War became awesome with all his stuff, but considering there was no new game+ other than you would unlock the superior armor or else nothing.

Sometimes playing single player for its "adventure" is fine, some platforming is fine by me, ALOT, a break from combat and all that but that is where I want new game+ to be forced in such games.

I have always said new game+ or arena modes are what gives these type of games its replayvalue nothing else.

LOL, you dont have to speak to me about cheap nonsense, I have experienced that in both NG2 and NGS2.
Some are cheap, but some are incredibly hard to do, but doable.
