Half- Life is my favourite FPS series ever. I personally cannot wait for this. Im holding off playing through 2 and episode one again so I can play through them all on the 360. Its gonna be a crazy "fall". So many great games to play.

Yeah I know what you mean. This is more official than past estimates they gave out though. It was always summer of this year winter of that. This is an actual date so maybe just maybe it will happen. I will try not to get my hopes up though.

Well in my opinion the half life series is superior to halo in single player. My mind change come the time when Im playing Halo 3 but who knows. I just have a special place for half life. The second game is one of the best videogame experiences I've ever had and episode one was just as good if not better. Bring on number two !

Half-Life 1 sold more than that, to the tune of 8 Million, on a non-dedicated gaming platform which is pretty universally accepted to have a smaller demographic than the console platforms... oh, and it has the most popular/played FPS multiplayer game ever. And the reviews at its release universally noted how it progressed the genre--regardless of platform--and is a milestone of game design and implimentation.

Not a knock against other games, but the Half-Life hate is... wait, an Xbox site? Nevermind.

Let me put it this way.. Half-Life is and would have been a milestone classic on any platform.. But if Halo was a PC game I'm not so sure it would have been as big as it's on the Xbox right now..

Competition in the FPS gerne on the PC was and still is much tougher, although the consoles (especially the Xbox 360) is getting stronger rapidly in it..

Certain things are subjective -- e.g. your dislike for most PC FPS that are critically/commercially a success in the last couple years... you have a right to an opinion -- but some things are objective and can be parsed by facts.

And the facts? The facts are you are wrong... again. It isn't Grift overrating Half-Life. In fact, it is the absolutely consensus of the industry that Half-Life as a series is exceptional -- as much so as your beloved Halo. The difference being, of course, is that PC FPS have a lot more competition and criteria that weigh against them.

That's like 2 weeks after Halo 3. Uh... I think they should consider a slight delay. Remember what happened to Call of Duty 3 and Rainbow Six Vegas, and they were 2 or 3 weeks after Gears....

While I agree the Halo/GTA storm is gonna be unmanagable for sheer market reasons alone, I must say TF2 looks to be brilliant and as of the Halo 3 beta I must say I am more interested in TF2 than Halo 3 online. TF2 may flop so my opinion could change, but I already know what Halo 3 MP is (and isn't) and knowing how much I loved TFC and its class based/team focused gameplay and how they have really evolved the concept I must say I am excited about the title.

What? What does PC have to do with me not so impressed by Half-Life? To put things into perspective - HL2 is a 7+/10 game for me, PDZ is 4/10, Black is 2/10. I'm as harsh for

I don't care about gamerankings, as gamerankings doesn't care about my favourite games - mostly because reviewers didn't bother to learn rules of certain games, couldn't look past not-the-greatest graphics and many other reasons.

The difference is, I played most of these best-rated games from this so called "harsh PC competition". And I liked some of them more than HL series.

That's unquestionable plus. Still, Grift labeled HL as the best SINGLE PLAYER FPS and I reffered to that (although Enemy Territory is way better than all these mods you listed IMO :) - I didn't play Natural Selection mind you)

Yup, 1% more on gamerankings is ultimate proof of game's superiority.

half life 2 is my prefared FPS in terms of single player. nothing touches it imo. i've completed half life 2 twice on xbox, once on PC and you know what? im gonna play it again on 360. and what more incentive do i need then team fortress 2, episode 1/2 and portal. in terms of sheer amount of gameplay, nothing touches half life 2

Bioshock - on 360. COD4 - probably won't it play at all. As a PC gamer my favourite games are adventure games and strategies and tactics games (Incubation, Jagged Alliance, Silent Storm, this kind of stuff).

Eh, I don't know.. I sorta think narrative is a big deal in a single player game. It's what made Halo so much better than Marathon. And likewise, both Half Life games are great games.. meaning that in addition to being well designed, they both play extremely well too.

HL2 was ground breaking too, in the form of physics and puzzles. If that's not your bag, and you just want to shoot stuff.. then I can see how you might not like it. But shooting stuff is very satisfying in HL2. Hell, if HL2 didn't have great weapons and great gun play, HL2DM wouldn't be as much fun as it is.

Killing your buddy with a radiator or a toilet is good fun.. the crossbow is good fun.. the magnum.. oh the magnum. I love Half Life 2.

We're also sorta ignoring Portal and Team Fortress 2. The latter won't be groundbreaking (outside of its visual style) but it will be a great deal of fun.. and I'm not sure you really get more groundbreaking than Portal.

It's not that I don't like puzzles - they just weren't that good in HL2 (but maybe they were better in Ep. 1?). In terms of "you just want to shoot stuff", I wouldn't say that's it - I love NOLF games and they are not only about shooting.

Anyway, the discussion is rather pointless, because everyone has different taste. I started it with "you're kidding", because you always laugh at me when I say Halo is the best FPS. ;] I didn't know it would trigger that serious discussion, and I didn't know you (Grift & Acert) love compare Half-Life to Halo that much... I tried to avoid this comparison, but you bring it in basically every post. :P

at the end of the day, halo is a REALLY GOOD (not my personal opinion) console FPS, but rating it in comparison to the FPS genre as a whole and it falls painfully short, half life 2 however...
