Well i liked cold fear so this might be nice? :)

In any case i like the fact that there has been no media storm or attempts at extreme hype or anything like that. Makes me interested in the game.

I liked Alone in The Dark 4 even, which was waaay before you liked.. and.. it's.. I was.. first!!!

Oh Don't worry they will be coming your way very soon ;) Ubisoft will hype the s*** out of this considering it's a new IP and by the looks of it, a High budget title as well. I have to say, This year is looking really nice for my favourite genre. This, Resident Evil, possibly Assissin's Creed 2 and Beyond good and Evil 2 as well. Not to mention possibly Splinter Cell.

Trying to recreate some of the Eurogamer humour, I see ;)

Anyway, Alone in the Dark 4 was a great game indeed marred by technical flaws though.

Yeah for sure. I think I sent back two copies believing I just got one from a bad batch but nope. Sound was messed up during cutscenes for me.

Yeah, They promised a patch but that has been months ago and considering ATARI track record, I am not holding my breath.

Um... I mean Alone in The Dark 4. I haven't played any of the new one yet. I tried the demo and found it to be a bit awkward at first but I eventually got the controls figured out enough to parry what funkyness there was and I thought it was pretty cool. Got it in Play's crazy christmas sale but it's still wrapped and waiting.

Anyway, that game is made by Eden Studios. However, Darkworks made Alone in The Dark 4, AKA The New Nightmare but I hate that name. I had it on Dreamcast and I thought it was ace, but it had severe sound issues during FMVs.

Oh boy! better get my eyes checked! OH YES, Alone in the Dark 4 is definately the better game. The technical problems also apply to that game anyway (I played the PC version) and you're indeed right it was Eden games not Darkworks.

Cold Fear which was made by darkworks was a great game too. That ship mechanic, although not executed very well, was very well done I thought.

I'd be surprised if that held true. I remember Eurogamer reporting that AITD would be out in April, and it didn't arrive till the end of June. I'm pretty sure most people have never even heard of this game. I don't buy this at all.

That's as worrying as it is pleasing, seeing as we haven't seen anything from the game, with exception to a small CG trailer and some screens.

I hope that Splinter Cell sequel finally shows up. It is been a long time and I expect that the time gap between Double Agent and this new entry really makes the difference. As for I am Alive it doesn't bother me at all. When I knew the first date given for Ubi I was shocked because they have only showed a damn CGI teaser, so more time for development is always a good thing.
I can't wait for Splinter Cell news.

Well i take back what good i said about Cold Fear. It sucks balls. I remember it as this fairly fun but not incredible survival horror game but man...memories sure can be tricky. I started playing it again and you know what? No traditional save points, the game just asks you if you want to save every now and then, and if you die? Yeah, that's right, back to the last save point. Also you can't carry first aid kits, nor can you pick up ammo for weapons you don't have. The camera is complete ass too, i mean...you get the shit raped out of you all the time by enemies you don't have a chance to kill unless you already know they are there. The fact that RE4 came out like a few weeks after this doesn't help either.

My hopes for I Am Alive just sank like a rock :P

i prefared cold fear to RE4 personally. mainly cos you can aim and move like a normal human being...lol. as for the save system, isnt that just like having to find ink ribbons and a typrighter in resident evil? i mean, if you die between saves in that you have to play from the last save, most survival horrors go for that method, if you could save anywhere there would be no tension at all.

Korn: The save thing is my biggest beef mainly because it doesn't let you choose when to save, making ink ribbons in RE way nicer. Let's say i want to stop playing; i can't just go to the closest typewriter and save, no i have to play until the game asks me if i want to save. Sometimes the save points are fairly close, and sometimes not. If i know a hard fight is coming up or something, in RE i can save before hand, but in Cold Fear? All i ask is for a save point that i activate myself.

Hope that doesnt affect the game very much. I think Ubisoft Shanghai is continuing work on this (They were collaborating with Darkworks before) so it's not a total switch - Darkworks was simply removed from the project. Wonder why......

I am still very disappointed this is going to play out in First Person though :(

Yeah, I was also bitterly disappointed. 3rd person would have been a better choice, but I'll have to reserve judgement on that.

Since this was announced I've thought of it as something of a spiritual successor to King Kong, so I like that it's first person. I think to convey the methodical survival and struggle to stay alive, first person is an obvious choice for that kind of immersion. I doubt there'll be acrobatics or anything here.

a valid point but I still prefer to see the character I am playing because honestly making it first person doesnt make it anymore immersive for me personally ESPECIALLY like you said with no acrobatics being involved. But then again look at Mirror's - I think going first person in that game despite the game being all about the acrobatics was the best decision the developers have made. It made sense within what the game is trying to achieve.
