It's not as bad as 4.9 and it's not as good as 8/9, in my humble opinion :)

IGN were probably drunk.

+ Flying the dragon and flying controls are great
+ Soundtrack is great
+ Sense of scale is great

- Death by in-game cutaway every 5 seconds
- Targeting, fighting other dragons and associated controls are clunky
- Poorly paced and ill-thought out objectives in missions
- End result is that you can feel periphery to the massive battle going on when you're supposed to be feeling part of it.

I hadn't mentioned any impressions of it up till now as I played this in July and I thought they'd have time to tweak at least the controls, difficulty and missions for the better.

Wow... looks like another higly anticipated PS3 game bites the dust. Definately not a good year to be a PS3 owner.

There is still plenty of stuff out on the PS3 year that is decent and likely the odd anticipated 360 title that won't be quite as good as it might have been.

We really don't need to turn this into a lets point and laugh at the PS3 owners thread unless of course you're after a holiday from the forums.

Lairs review scores are about as shocking as Jin's reaction to them. Keep on trolling.. lets see how long that lasts. I think Sath is now the only one holding on to the hope that this game will be good :P

Wrong! Warhawk is not an AAA title, just as people wouldnt give Oblivion or Graw AAA status even though they faired good in the reviews and are great sellers. I bet Warhawk wont compare to those title's sales.

Last time I checked sales didn't necessarily indicate quality. That would make N-Sync one of the best bands in the world, wouldn't it? Interesting examples you've used too, considering Oblivion and GRAW are both PS3 games as well.. and while Oblivion is a triple-a title, GRAW doesn't actually deserve a double.

Warhawk doesn't need to be "AAA" to be a great game, and apparently it's just that--a great game. Not even the first on the platform, either, unless time has somehow made games like Oblivion less great (it hasn't).

Yes, I am going to bitch about the ps3 not having a AAA title just like those people who bitched about the 360!

..why? It's fanboy revenge or something? How is it bitching about the 360 to observe that there weren't that many great games in the first year? I can count them on less than one hand.. I still enjoyed them though. PGR3 and Oblivion were definitely two of the best games I played in 2006, while waiting about forever for Gears of War.

That's really all besides the point though. Turning every negative PS3 review into this kind of argument is bad bad bad for discussion. We get it, I think.. meanwhile.. PS3 owners (especially ones that own 360's as well!) will continue to enjoy the platform for what it is, while we continue to expect it to grow and improve.

Hehe Grift I doubt I am the only one. I have been reading alot of forums and all and those that have a PS3 and got it say its great, some say its difficault, and some say what Deft said.

And Deftangel, I actually will take your advice really. Atleast you are being honest and not trolling or being a fanboy or anything about it, so I respect your opinion.

I do hope it is something to come back to, atleast for me anyways. We will see.

How on earth is that trolling???? I'm saying that the two most anticpated first-party games for people who own a PS3 for 2007 have recieved mediocre scores and i'm sure those looking foward to those games must be disappointed.

I dont see how thats trolling, If Halo 3 and say Mass Effect came out with scores between 5-6/10, It would be a VERY disappointing year for me as a 360 owner.

oh man, that's some mindbending logic there.

On the topic, I think people are just dissecting this subject too much, its obviously too early. They are trying to rush some system sellers and make up for the lead time that the 360 had, and for the time being they failed (apparently, judging from the crits) but we all know that they are going to release sooner or later some stuning games. we all know.

It's sad that such a high profile game turns out this badly. I really don't see how devs can allow this to happen. Especially with a budget like this game has clearly had.

The devs just did what they wanted to do, they didn't know how the future holds, n dev knows that.
Look at Halo 2, and then later on when everybody said it sucked they said they are dissapointed in it and said for the sequal they will do better.

So if Factor 5 decides to make a sequal to Lair, they will obviously see all the flaws people kept talking about to make it better, and added multiplayer which they said themselves.

I hope it won't be perceived as trolling... But I never believed in Lair winding up as a good game. First of all, Factor 5 has reputation of making beautiful but boring games. Most importantly the game had horrible showing at last TGS which could be only compared to Too Human on E3 06. It was extremely glitchy and buggy which is understandable for an early game, but also the game as a whole was lacking any focus at all and game looked very dull (technically it looked good, but it had and still has horrible art direction). Factor 5 games remind me of Crimson Skies, where I didn't like single-player but loved multiplayer and Lair was said to not having any multiplayer mode at all. On top of that Julian Eggebrecht said he hated fantasy. That wasn't going to end well... which is now reflected in IGN and EGM reviews. I am actually surprised that some people other than extreme Sony fanboys are surprised by reviews.

Halo 2 wasn't flawed in terms of gameplay. Just a shortened campaign with an awkwardly told story, which it made up for with a deep and long lasting multiplayer mode.

If you put it that way, then every game will fall into that categoery, no matter what!

That to me says, you believe warhawk is just as good as GOW, which it is not just by the reviews, and I highly doubt it will sell like a AAA title or be a system seller.

It does matter if a game is released late on one system then another. In total games sales a game may be a AAA title but it may not be one on a particular platform. Also because a game is released late it may have lower sales because of many factors. What I am saying is that a game on one system may be a AAA title but on another it is not.

To compare 360's first year with PS3's is a huge joke IMO. The situation is not nearly as bad, with the PS3 things are simply going wrong. I had a lot of games to choose from with the 360, most of them in the "warhawk level" of quality.

PDZ, COD2, Gears of War, Rainbow Vegas, Saint's Row, Dead Rising, Splinter Cell DA, DOA5, PGR3, MotoGP 2006, Kameo, Burnout.

Come on. There's no comparison really. It's like day and night.

The PS3 has gotten Warhawk, Virtua Fighter, Sigma and Resistance. Of those, Virta Fighter is coming to 360 and Sigma is mostly a remake. But I don't want to turn this into a console war, I just consider PS3's situation bad. And it's hardly just an opinion.
