Lost Odyssey is coming out on Jan 24 in the Asian territories! Here are pics of the preview Asian version sent to Nizam, from BoB and one of the XBOX SG MVPs :D And before anyone asks, I have no idea if this game is region free or not. Chances are its not region free.

Hopefully the JP save files will work on the Asian version like BD did, that way I can pick it up where I left it and complete it in english then play through again.

I thought the game was fantastic to be honest. There are things I don't like about the story, but I believe the story is quality nonetheless.

I liked it more than Final Fantasy X's story and I liked it A LOT better than Final Fantasy 12s, but it has to be said that as much as I like Lost Odyssey there was tons of potential on display that the game could've used to really take the story to the next level, but they didn't take advantage of it as much as I would've liked.

So I really enjoyed the story, but to tease with the amount of potential in the story as they did and then to not go quite as far as I would've hoped has to be seen as a small disappointment for me, but I enjoyed the story nonetheless. It isn't often that many titles can even get me to the point of excitement and general interest in the story that Lost Odyssey did and I've enjoyed rpgs the whole way through that didn't remotely manage to illicit the same kind of excitement and interest that I got while playing through Lost Odyssey so I don't think it should be criticized too much as I think it did a great job of going a bit further than some others even if it didn't deliver on all the showcased potential for the story.

What I come away with ultimately is that as a direct result of the things this game did exceptionally well, in my opinion, I ended up finding other things that I wasn't completely pleased with. So it's more a dislike of certain elements of what I considered to be a nice story all around.

All things considered I thought the game was fantastic and that the dev team executed really well on the majority of the most important aspects of the game. I would in an instant buy another game made by all the same people, but I'm in agreement with what was said on Gaf that they may definitely need a new scenario writer.

It isn't a problem with ideas because I think they do a fantastic job there and they have great vision, but I suspect that somewhere along the lines there is an unwillingness or fear to tackle the more intimidating aspects of the story perhaps suspecting that things would come crashing down on and the game would fall apart.

Edit :: And as expected, I don't understand Japanese so there is quite a bit that I feel I missed out on that I would've liked to explore more of had I been able to understand the japanese text. I look forward to picking the game up day one.

If the marketing for it is good I think it should be able to do a nice 600k in the USA.

Yeah tell me about it! I have hopes given the mature direction of the game,I think it should sell well particularly in Europe too where JRPGs are very poplar, perhaps more than in the US, I think.

I'm just hoping the cuteness of Blue Dragon is what turned people off and that a solid AAA jrpg like this can find the kind of success that it truly deserves.

Absolutely. I think they will, they have NO first part game at all in Jan or Feb except kingdom Under Fire but they will probably push Lost Odyssey more.

How many copies did Blue Dragon sell over there?

I'm starting to get really pumped for this game. Blue Dragon was my favorite JRPG I've played since FF9 and I think that Lost Odyssey is playing toward all the strengths I like for in a good JRPG. The only thing I'm a little worried about is the amount of cutscenes and dialogue. How do they affect the game for those who have played it?

I have to say I am very surprised by how poorly Blue Dragon did in the rest of the world especially Europe. I thought that the PAL territories would have at least equaled the U.S. sales. Oh well... I hope the budget was small and they were able to make a decent profit from it because I really want to see a sequel.

I think a sequel is a dead cert, half a million isn't bad really, and I think MS and MS have already hinted at a sequel.

I'm sure with a sequel they will iron out any problems they had and fine tune it, could turn out to be quite a good franchise if MS invests some time and money into it.

I hope so because I really enjoyed Blue Dragon. The lack of random encounters, the battle system, a world map that makes exploration enjoyable rather than just clicking on an icon like most modern jRPGs.

I'll admit that I have to agree with some of the reviews about the characters and story, but even still I thought it was all decent enough. The characters were kind of one dimensional, and the story was a little cookie-cutter, but it was fun and I think that that is what games are supposed to be first and foremost.

Yea they really need to support the franchise. ESPECIALLY considering the way the first Blue Dragon ended it's a total setup for what is very clearly a load of potential for a sequel so they really need to take advantage of that.

It would be quite narrow minded of Microsoft to not realize the potential for Blue Dragon as a franchise staring them right in the face.

I'm so pissed off about that.

The VERY moment Shu owns the crap out of 2 people with his shadow to save Zola's life and just when everything starts getting far more interesting is right when I couldn't find anymore subtitled versions of the anime. The subbing of that anime has been atrocious so I haven't been able to watch any episode since because I can't understand a damn thing that's going on, which is unfortunate because I really liked it.

Its being subbed in Spanish if thats any help :P

And Yea I think its still going Alimo, don't know how successful its been though, I'm guessing not very considering nobody wants to sub it.

Well it's still in its enfacy. If MS releases the sequel to Blue Dragon, things might pick up again, in fact I think the sequel is really crucial if they want to have a leg in Japan. it could become the new dragon quest, it really has that potential.
