Hey, I'm just like you. I put my pants on one leg at a - dammit, I knew I forgot something today.
...But the overarcing story is just super simple, despite some great character drama. I'm sorely disappointed that my first "epic" RPG venture ended up being quite a lot less epic than Panzer Dragoon Saga for instance, and when I look back on it now it just doesn't feel like I've "been in a lot of grand places" or that I've "witnessed truly epic events". There have been moments where it felt like it'd open up more, take bigger strides, but it sort of revolves back again and I end up in essentially the same places.
It's just the nature of the tale told I guess, and the dreams make up most of the "meat" of the script. For me though, with my invalid, owned opinion, I wanted a grand story thread to tie it all together and I reckon it's sorely lacking that.
But I don't expect you to even be able to agree or disagree with me yet. Play the game, think about how you feel at the end of disc 4 and then you may or may not agree.
For me though.. yeah.
3hrs into disc 2 and likeing it more and more, love the characters and the little mini stories, and combat is turning out to be more fun than i thought it would be, which is a plus plus for me as its my first jrpg, and loving the main story, the way this game is going it will move into forth place above Oblivion on my top list of RPG's. :)
Mass Effect - March 10th - Continue the Fight!!!
Bitches!!
But you shouldn't ask a question "ie does it get better" and then be selective about what you want to read.
I liked the game, but it is by no means anywhere near my top ranking RPG.
It had a great battle engine, but the story was severly lacking and bland as hell in placed, seem the Guch played it safe as not to alienate the western audience.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
I definitely rank this game really high on my rpg list though.
There is too much quality packed in for me to see it any different.

Only thing I felt missing was even somekind of 'limits'. And there would have been a backstory for them too, they could have learned new limits as their memory comes back.
Nothing to see here move along.

STILL though, fighting was buckets of fun, and there are some really neat encounters towards the end that I really liked. Logic-holes in the ending ahoy, but even then it managed to tie things up quite nicely and almost jerk a couple of tears.
I found myself caring about the least likely characters in the end and it was nice to see them all get proper resolutions.
I'd really love to see a sequel, but I'd want them to build a new world and a different story - much like Square do with FF - and keep polishing this combat system because that's easily the best part.
67 hours though! 67 bleeding jRPG hours.. feels pretty damn good for my first proper one. :D
*rummages through RPG box* Now onto the next!

Congratualtions on your 67 hours! go to Final Fantasy X, I would suggest, it's the next best thing or perhaps play something different like Dragon Quest 8.
Well Done on your First JRPG!

I just.. miiight change that to FF8 though, I just know I'll be starved for colour after DDS and FF8 and X both have those in spades.
I'll conduct my further RPG talk in our dizzyness inducingly mega sized RPG thread as to not derail this one.
Not that it'll matter to DC who doesn't read my posts anyway.. but.. you know.. for the ones that do. :D
