STREET FIGHTER 4, BRING IT ON!
NARUTO/AVATAR are the best anime EVER!!!
Bring on LOST ODYSSEY & CRY ON!
I just hope sakaguchi feels that it was a success and is a franchise worth growing because there is so much scope for improvement, not that it detracts much from how good LO actually is but there are things that i think would make the game all the more enjoyable and even increase the actual playtime cause at 75 hrs it feels as if i have accomplished everything (even with that missing achievement).
It's a shame it's split over 4 DVD's, it limits the use of the world map which i think is a serious step back and have done since FF:X did it, wish they would do some kind of HD install to at least get us to the world map earlier in the adventure (yes i know we saw it briefly in disc 2 but it was really just smoke and mirrors, couldnt go too far).
It's just something i thought they had perfected with the PS1 gen games and added so much to the feeling that the game is bigger than it actually is, and the shortcut to jump straight to locations, although extremely useful at times again negated the use of any sort of world map. Plus the fact that you're never actually on foot across the continents never really gives you a sense of perspective which is a real shame. Heck, i couldnt even point you to where most of the locations are on the world map, or even where they are in relation to each other...i could however tell you where they are on the list...
Another thing they need to do is add some more sidequests to the game, FF always had card games or chocobos or whatever (certainly in the more recent iterations) that although aren't needed add an extra depth to the world, it just feels more vibrant if the characters have more ways to interact with the world other than fighting and talking. The golden saucer was a great way to add depth, so many mini games.
Just as any PS1 FF game was also.
I don't think what you are saying had much to do with disc space than to do with development time and cost, not to mention that UE3 with its apparent loading problems would probably struggle with streaming much like ME did.
After all if a PS1 game can have a full world map even thought it was split over 4 disc and allow access to all of those locations then im sure the same can be done for a 360 game.
I don't think the use of multiply disc detracted from the game personally.
There are mini games in LO, such as the music box and the battle cage, perhaps they aren't as in depth as Tetramaster or Blitzball but that could also be down to development time and cost again.
You should realise that Mistwalker isn't SE and doesn't have the same resources at its disposal.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
What i was getting at with the 4 disc thing is that there is considerably less story on the 4th disc to accomodate all the resources for every location, if they had put the world map on every disc as open as it is in disc 4 i very much doubt the amount of story / dialogue / cutscenes would fit on less than 6 discs.
With the PS1 gen games they didn't have to worry about voices and the cutscenes were of a much lower quality so didn't impact upon the disc usage as much, not to mention texture and model quality.
I don't have a problem with multi disc games, I perhaps worded my post a little ambiguously, it's what we lived with in the ps1 era and im sure given time games will outgrow any single disc medium.
I think the 4 disc thing is going off on a tangent on what i was trying to get at which is more the design and use of the world map which is very much in keeping with the newer FF games since X which as I said before i just feel makes the game world seem so much smaller than it actually is, im sure location wise it rivals any other game but it just feels tight, compact and very much linear provided you don't do the sidequests. It's just something I would love to see them change for future games.
The minigames that you mention fit into the combat category though in both instances, thats what i was getting at, just something to break it up a bit, but again this is more for future additions.
