i dont think it has such an easy job as the first game did. it'll probably be my own GOTY, but i have a feeling other games will be GOTY in terms of websites and magazines. there are a lot of AAA games coming out next year. a LOT

Name any title coming out next year that looks to be shaping up better than ME2. The truth is that, from what I've seen thus far, I don't see how this game can be faulted in any way - everything that was criticised from the first game has seemingly been ironed out.

still doesnt change the fact there are games like GT5, alan wake, god of war 3, final fantasy 13, lost planet 2 and the highly likely last guardian. it's not as easy a win as it was in 07, sure it still has a very good chance, but there are just a lot of amazing games coming out next year with equal if not better production values.

Considering how highly rated ME1 was, even with all its tech glitches and planet exploration repeats ect..., i can only guess how high ME2 will get rated with all the improvements and tweaks they have made, ME1 took RPG's to the next level in 2007, and ME2 will do so again in 2010.

Well, just so we're clear, I was talking about my personal GOTY - you can't really have a general GOTY because there isn't really an official means of judging that. I just remembered Alan Wake though... hmm. My wallet's going to take a battering for the upteenth year running.

aye, and theres a high chance my GOTY will too be mass effect 2, but in general i think people's opinions will be split. it's isnt going to be a clear winner by any stretch. but then really, when is it ever.

I'd be surprised as well if there was a clean sweep of GOTY awards from one game in particular - although I expect ME2 to pick up practically every 'RPG of the Year' award.

Well FF is out in 2010 also so that will be stiff RPG competition, but unless Gears3 gets a surprise release and knocks my socks off again or Halo Reach is as badass as i think they could make it, i cant see anything out there for me that will touch ME2! for my GOTY

Edit: OK Alan Wake could be the surprise?

There is nothing i can see that will touch this for GOTY in 2010, mayby Halo Reach will throw a curve ball? but for now ME2 has my vote.

mario galaxy did it in 07 i think, almost a full clean sweep. FF games tend to do it whenever they're released too. as i said, there is a lot of major competition next year. too many to make a decision this early imo. hell, scribblenauts could take it, seeing as it won so many E3 awards.

That was unbelievable, this game is looking like GOTY for sure. And Korn, as much as I love racing games, they are never GOTY anywhere.

Anyways, the part where he said that you will be using fuel to move around space is slightly worrying. Now we are going to have to worry about fuel? Come on. Some details should simply be ignored. How does worrying about fuel for example is going to add anything to experience other than annoyance to the player?

You only apparently need to worry about fuel in non-main quest or storyline travel.

You guys are right; this already looks like game of the year material. It also pretty much seems as if it will maintain it's position as my personal franchise of the generation.

The game just looks really mindblowing. I'm still wondering to myself did Microsoft not see the potential in this franchise or what? What was it really that actually caused them to not immediately swan dive completely blind into a Bioware purchase? Whatever it was, it will go down as one of the most foolish miscalculations ever :D

I've been trying to stay clear of game details in this thread but I had to watch that vid and i am truly in awe of what I've just seen. ME1 was a masterpiece but this looks like it will be better in every department (IF thats even possible). The wait for this game is agonising, i'm just lucky Forza 3 will be around soon to ease the pain.
