Update:
I listened to English podcast:
http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/radio/the_report/t...

here is a summary

gameplay is 100% Platinum Games, Story and cutscenes done by Kojima Productions. They go and check out with other, making sure characters and world are presented correctly in the game as it should be in Metal Gear universe.

they talk a lot about game's development, you should listen if you're interested.

They want to go all out with action, crazy scenes that you haven't seen in the series from Kojipro before.

The old MGS Rising story was set between 2 and 4, but when they decided to go to platinum they decided that it was limiting and changed it to set after MGS4. PG's game design demanded the story to be changed, gameplay comes first etc. They think it was a good decision.

About Zan-Datsu:
It was a a concept revealed in E3 2010, it's now taken away, they think it slows you down, you still cut thing as you see but it's different than the concept shown in E3 2010. "Gameplay comes first" again.

Who's the director?

When talking about director at PG, Kamiya is the first name to come up but he's not directing, they are unable to reveal it yet but they have great talent there for action games, it's a great team there etc.

This time the whole work flow is toward English, they will be releasing English trailers first, game is directed more to western audiences, they try to develop with that in mind. Even if game design can not be released in Japan that's fine, western gamers come first. Talking about shooters etc and how it's the biggest market. They are aiming for a global market.

This doesn't mean they are copying western games, they are making what they want, it's still a Japanese made game, but they had that in mind. They are making games, games that are fun, but thinking who will find it fun.
Discover the new METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE trailer unveiled during American cable channel Spike’s 2011 Video Game Awards (VGAs)! Held at the end of every year, the VGAs are a celebration of world-class games. As the name suggests, the show recognizes the most outstanding gaming titles of the year, but it also serves as a venue for showing world premiere trailers of select anticipated titles. One of the highlights of this year's show was when Hideo Kojima took the stage to reveal this new trailer.

METAL GEAR SOLID: RISING’s E3 2010 trailer won numerous “Best Trailer” awards and drew praise worldwide. At the 2011 VGAs, the game re-emerged as METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE with an all-new trailer.
METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE is being developed through a partnership with Platinum Games, known for hit titles like Bayonetta and Vanquish, and this new development structure promises to set all-new standards for the action genre.

The main character, Raiden, was once feared as the child soldier "Jack the Ripper" on the front lines of the First Liberian Civil War. Now, his combat mastery is channeled through a cyborg body as the strikes from his high-frequency blade slice even massive assault drones in two. Raiden is contracted for VIP protection, military training and other duties by PMSCs (Private Military and Security Companies) in a developing country piecing itself back together after a bloody civil war. Little does he know that the stage is set for a clash with an enigmatic force of countless cyborgs.

Reborn at the hands of Platinum Games, METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE pits cyborg against cyborg in battle that blazes past every human limit!

METAL GEAR SOLID: RISING was a spin-off intended to feature the actions and transformation of Raiden, one of METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY’s main characters, in the lead-up to METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS.

However, after Platinum Games came on board, the story was changed to take place several years after METAL GEAR SOLID 4 to give them more of an opportunity to show off what they can bring to the series. Cyborgs are spreading at a rapid pace in the game’s world, resulting in earth-shattering superhuman action at every turn!

The original aim for a combination of stealth and action has also been enhanced, for a more aggressive new focus on pure, exhilarating action.

A Solid Collaboration Breeds a "Solidless" METAL GEAR

Naturally, Kojima Productions is still overseeing the game’s story and its world, and is also providing visual direction to ensure METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE retains the characteristic look of the METAL GEAR series. Though its exact identity is a step apart from the METAL GEAR SOLID games, the blood of the series still flows within this new METAL GEAR.
Kojima Productions and Platinum Games: Two world-class powerhouses among Japanese studios join forces to bring you METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE . What can we expect from this astounding combination? Keep your eyes on this site for more details!

Title is completely retarded. Revengeance? Yeah...Still i liked Bayonetta a lot so i'm looking forward to seing more of this. The fact that they skippd the san-datsu thing is kinda disappointing though, i thought that looked very interesting and cool.

Zan-Datsu would work great for PS Move but for controllers, it would be a chore for sure.

The whole "revengeance" thing is meh, I dont even think about it.
Metal Gear: Rising thats about it.

Why would it be hard with a controller? Just press a button to "ready" the sword then swing it with one of the sticks. I don't see why it would be a problem at all. It would require a somewhat less frantic pace than what we usually se from Platinum but i would rather see them trying to make that work and make it fun than just making yet another DMC type game. I love that style of gameplay too, but it'd be cool to see something a bit slower paced where you'd have to use different tactics with the sword to beat enemies and so forth. Pretty much a deep action game cetered on the sword mechanic. That sounds like a really interesting concept to me, too bad it was scrapped though. At least that's what it looks based on the trailer.

There seems to be hints of it still in there though? At least from what I could make out through the trailer.

It doesn't seem as prominent, sure, it's still there to some degree I think?

EDIT: Oop, maybe not. I just mistook the slow-mo scenes for it.

The trailer was very saturday morning cartoon, and while MGS games arnt exactly known for subtle dialogue, it seemed especially cheesy in the trailer. Combat looks ok tho, will rent it. Not liked any platinum game developed games yet, they all seem to rely on a shallow gimmick, and as a result lack quite a bit of depth. But yeah, rental seems good, fill in the gap between MGS2 and 4.

Looks like a chore to me. Its basically just doing simple slash and dice with the body it boring. For an action style they are going for it looks darned annoying to keep pulling it off in combat and breaks the pace and it looks plain simple stupid. Its like if NG2 had has a similair concept for each decapitation for the enemies each few seconds, that would piss me off.
I would understand it working for PS Move when you do the simple slash moves with the arm but with controller I hate it.

@KORN
They said its after MGS4.

Why, just lock on to an enemy like in DMC, and when you do the right stick controls your sword. Swipe it up for and upwards slash, right for a swipe to the right and so forth. You could even do combos by swiping different directions in sequence. Enemies could block certain directions and stuff. I don't see how it would be a bad thing at all, it'd just make for something thats not just mashing in strings in the regular way.

Sure it would work, anything would, but it would be boring to just slice the way you want it when Raiden does a cool move while doing that.

I am glad the developers has a sense of good approach when it comes to action and style, they did the right thing IMO.

But as long as its not forced or anything, but I see that useless when you can do it during your normal attacks and then pull off a charge combo like he does in the trailer, badass iai jutsu style he pulled!

I guess.

I hope the music is as awesome as previous titles though, Peace Walker has great music.

Also, is it only me or what.
The first thing that came to my head when seeing the combat and the text font I thought of old NES and SNES times...and then Strider lol not a bad thing, I like the old school text front they used, brings me back with good memories.

Game looks very early, AI is brain dead, hit detection looks very poor and the trailer didn't show any other gameplay elements like platforming or stealth

This games E3 2012 showing should be great

I agree, the AI is barely there (but I think they wanted to just showcase Raiden's moves), hit detection is there but at the same time its not, but its way to early.
I also think they removed the stealth.
Raiden took out a few Gekko's with his ninja skills, why the hell would he need to stealth kill at all. After what was showcased, stealth means nerfing the character and I am against that!
Platforming wouldnt be bad, but I dont think it will be there.

Raiden Gaiden LOL

Also, I dont think its out on 2012, maybe 2013.

If it's just an all out action game, count me out. That'd be disappointing too... I'm kinda hoping that this will have some sort of ties with MGS other than just characters and world.

Hopefully it won't just be a predictable hack 'n' slash outing.

Its Platinum Games, they are way too much into action than stealth.
You will be dissapointed.

Considering I hated Vanquish but at least there is some blood in here, and I still consider that "Cut" stuff very dumb.

An mgr-forum-party without me???

This thread needs more comments from a gray fox. So here it is in a nutshell:

Everyone who hates the game is....wrong and not cool. Everyone who likes the game is....right and cool.

On a serious note (though I was serious about the above): This game is so....awesome in a peanutbutterjelly way.
Anyone who has tried peanutbutterjelly, knows what I am talking about.

The following games contain the peanutbutterjelly factor:

- Everything mgs-related (especially the ninjas) --> Kojima
- DMC baby...(specifically DMC 1 and....the new DmC) --> Kamiya/Mikami (DMC1 was essentially RE4 alpha made by Mikame given to Kamiya to turn it into DMC1)
- Bayonetta --> Kamiya
- Vanquish --> Mikami
- Resident Evil 1234&CV --> Mikami (after he left capcom, RE went downhill)
- MGR --> Platinumgames Hideki/Kojima and ...who knows who from Platinumgames
- No More Heroes --> Suda (Suda rocks)
- Lollypop Chainsaw --> Suda

See a pattern? Cuz I do.

And dont forget....haters are wrong.

Kamiya has nothing to do with this game so everything you posted above that has Kamiya involved goes out of the window.

Well yeah, director was never announced and Kamiya isnt making it.

I mean who else works at Platinum Games who is good at their action games other than him?
I mean Shinji Mikami isnt bad, the guy did God Hand and Vanquish so thats good.

But like I said before, I dont care whos name is slapped on, just make a good action game!
Yes I said ACTION game, stealth MG"S" fans, get over it because this is a spin off from the same universe.

@GrayFox
Opinions are not wrong...just bad or good :P

But seriously, the game looks over the top and awesome, but I can definitely see some jerky hit detection but the game is in such a early state that I wont be so picky about it.
Guessing its a 2013 title, E3 or TGS 2012 will show more now that the game has some good direction of what they vision for the game.

I never mentioned Kamiya was involved. He is actually working on Bayonetta 2. Also I can read as it was also posted by Sath in his original post.

But the true question is... can you read? :P

  • Driftwood
