I mean I can sort of understand that to some people it must be a really mind bending concept to grasp. I'm not saying that like I'm some kind of genious, but some things come easier to some people, and I think that in developing this they were afraid that for some people it just wouldn't make any damn sense. They sort of overshot the learning curve in trying to ease people into the concept, and just as it was getting off the ground it was pretty much ending.
Pull your finger out Treasure.
But cant deny Portal is awsome. I only played the first slice, downloaded on steam, was pretty fun!
Will probably get Orange box sooner or latter :)
Well, consider my single biggest gripe squashed. Thanks EA!
*Hopes for fantastic Portal box art*
That's pretty funny :D
I'll buy The Orange Box in 2 weeks or so. I'm still hesitating whether to buy PC or 360 version.

On a more serious note: Portal's box art will blow hard if OB's box art is any indication.
My original point was that it's unlikely that a part of what's essentially a compilation will go down in any sort of games history, nor reach the kind of audience that could potentially keep the hype alive, Rez style. As a standalone game - and I still challenge your point that the key to its charm is its connection to the HL universe - I think it'll come out from under the shadow of its shootery parents and earn its rep as a puzzle game along the lines of Crush and Exit.
Give it snazzy packaging too and it'll soon stand proud on every gamer's shelf - not just the Half Life playing ones - and it'll stand on its own legs.

Anyways, I'm just back to say this game is in no way game of the year.......in my opinion anyways, but I wouldn't take any publication that gives this game GOTY seriously. It is just silly. And I've never taken Grift seriously, he started to go crazy after Virtual Fighter, lol.
So playing the whole game didn't chance my opinion as I knew it would happen, and no, I didn't play with that in mind, I just tried to enjoy it.....and I did. But I really don't see how this game can win any awards other than "great innovation in gameplay mechanic" or something like that. "Best story" awards are simply RIDICULOUS.
Funny? A little yeah, at best it made me smile......but it really is no more funny than Phaeton's .gifs, or this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2AyqLi4qdg
It's just somewhat comedic. The end is the best yeah.
So yeah, great gameplay mechanic...........awesome actually, but to me this game doesn't even get game of the month. Graphics are average, sound is alright to great, replay value is close to zero, gameplay is limited, and well.......it is a nice puzzle game, for ~3 hours.........and that is all :|
Mods, stop changing my SIG! I'm going to end up banning you!
This time, experience Aperture Science from a different perspective, before the time of the original Portal, as a different test subject.
This mappack includes ALL 40 levels from WCS's Flash version, additional bonus levels and features. All together, we've got here over three and a half hours of amazing gameplay.
