Portal is the best game ever.

It is pretty easy, but it's also damn short. I think part of the problem with the difficulty is that it ramps up way too late in the game (not that it ever gets hard). The first like, 10+ puzzles are essentially all the same cake walk difficulty.

Yeah I think so too.

I mean I can sort of understand that to some people it must be a really mind bending concept to grasp. I'm not saying that like I'm some kind of genious, but some things come easier to some people, and I think that in developing this they were afraid that for some people it just wouldn't make any damn sense. They sort of overshot the learning curve in trying to ease people into the concept, and just as it was getting off the ground it was pretty much ending.

Best game ever is subjective, will of course, be diffrent from player to player :p

But cant deny Portal is awsome. I only played the first slice, downloaded on steam, was pretty fun!
Will probably get Orange box sooner or latter :)

"Nice one John, one wonders if your hair is made of real silver. "

That's pretty funny :D

I'll buy The Orange Box in 2 weeks or so. I'm still hesitating whether to buy PC or 360 version.

LOL NO! It can't sell on its own we all know that Portal is only popular because it came with Orange Box!

On a more serious note: Portal's box art will blow hard if OB's box art is any indication.

I think it's prolly a lot more likely to sell now that it HAS been included in the Orange Box and gained a bit of a following. Rez was a big "HUH!?" on the hype-o-meter back when it was actually new, and now it's racking up 10s and will prolly be one of the higher rated XBLA games.

My original point was that it's unlikely that a part of what's essentially a compilation will go down in any sort of games history, nor reach the kind of audience that could potentially keep the hype alive, Rez style. As a standalone game - and I still challenge your point that the key to its charm is its connection to the HL universe - I think it'll come out from under the shadow of its shootery parents and earn its rep as a puzzle game along the lines of Crush and Exit.

Give it snazzy packaging too and it'll soon stand proud on every gamer's shelf - not just the Half Life playing ones - and it'll stand on its own legs.

Ok, so I just finished it not too long ago. Took a whole 2.5 hours........pathetic for a game of the year.

Anyways, I'm just back to say this game is in no way game of the year.......in my opinion anyways, but I wouldn't take any publication that gives this game GOTY seriously. It is just silly. And I've never taken Grift seriously, he started to go crazy after Virtual Fighter, lol.

So playing the whole game didn't chance my opinion as I knew it would happen, and no, I didn't play with that in mind, I just tried to enjoy it.....and I did. But I really don't see how this game can win any awards other than "great innovation in gameplay mechanic" or something like that. "Best story" awards are simply RIDICULOUS.

Funny? A little yeah, at best it made me smile......but it really is no more funny than Phaeton's .gifs, or this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2AyqLi4qdg

It's just somewhat comedic. The end is the best yeah.

So yeah, great gameplay mechanic...........awesome actually, but to me this game doesn't even get game of the month. Graphics are average, sound is alright to great, replay value is close to zero, gameplay is limited, and well.......it is a nice puzzle game, for ~3 hours.........and that is all :|

Portal - The Flash Version Mappack: http://www.fileplanet.com/186458/180000/fileinfo/P...
Based on Portal: The Flash Version, Hen Mazolski brings us all the levels and concepts back to the original Portal version, in this huge mappack!

This time, experience Aperture Science from a different perspective, before the time of the original Portal, as a different test subject.

This mappack includes ALL 40 levels from WCS's Flash version, additional bonus levels and features. All together, we've got here over three and a half hours of amazing gameplay.
I'll have to check this out someday.
