I guess if you're a big Ivy fan I can see that though.. but if you play as Cassandra, SC3 > All.. and she's soooo much better than Sophi.. which pretty much invalidates SC1 as the best in series.
But yeah, SC3 was better than (XB/PS2)SC2. As for my reasons not mentioning the GC version, well I'm a biased Link lover. Take that away, and yeah, SC3 was better than SC2 easily.
As for SC1, I haven't played SC1 in such a long time, but that nostalgia is hard to let go. Maybe that may be the case for others too. I'll have to replay it one day, but first I will need to find a Dreamcast or an old arcade cabinet in order to do so. Unless Namco re-releases it on VC/PSN/XBLA or something(which I doubt).
I believe in Harvey Dent too
I played only the first Soul Calibur, it was quite fun, I'm no fan of fighters and never bothered with the sequels.
"That just happened 'cause that was awesome" - Randy Pitchford, Gearbox
I think everyone will readily agree that after 1 the series sort of faded into the background as "another fighter" rather than THE fighter with the earth practically shaking at the bare mention of its name. SC1 was a brute, a titan, and just about every credible source I know gave it a perfect score. It looked absolutely sexual, and it was truly a killer app for the dreamcast, so I have no choice but to put it ahead of all the other entries in the series.
Also, I *really* didn't like the gay "WALLS FOR EVERYONE!" mentality that went on after VF3 and DOA2. It broke both Tekken 4 and SC2 for me. It's still giving me grief in the otherwise rather brilliant Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection.

The game wasn't really any worse off for it (well, aside from the obvious lack of 720p -- a feature that made the Xbox version of SC2 far superior to that Link bs!) but it did have a dramatic impact on sales. Also.. they should have been quicker to release the arcade edition. I would prefer several revisions to an arcade game before the home port shows up.. getting version A sucks.
Admittedly it's not as game breaking as those in Tekken. T3/top tier characters in TTT were Tekken at its absolute best with an insane rush game equalled only by Third Strike. Then Tekken 4 arrives and delivers the most heartbreakingly slow poke-fest ever. As if bound by some kind of.. pride or whatever, Tekken 5 still has one feet in enclosed abominations for levels, but at least has the decency to provide the classic style of inexplicably endless arenas. In that sense, both games (T5/SC2) are let off the hook. You can at least play them the way you like.

"We've said that Gears of War was graphically the best game have ever been made, well it looks like Pong compared to Crysis and some of the DX10 titles."

I still play Soul Calibur 2 today on a regular basis, I didn’t bother picking up SC3 though, I rented it however…but it just wasn’t as much fun as SC2; so yeah…that’s just my little story lol
Anyway, really looking forward to Soul Calibur 4…I wonder how much they have changed Raphael this time, along with Siegfried.
I really like the logo, so I took a little screen shot:
Blue Dragon --- August 2007!!!
Lost Odyssey --- Holiday 2007!!! XD
I looove SC3 though. It's at least as much fun as SC2 and then some.. you really need to get into the new gameplay system and the character revisions quite a bit before it clicks again. It took me several hours of playing w/ Cassy before I realized just how much better she is in SC3.. and for me.. that makes the game as a whole much better :)
My initial impressions of SC3 weren't so glowing.. but after actually spending a reasonable amount of time with it, I think it's great.
HOWEVER, if I can’t play as Raphael I’m in biiiig trouble, and I mean BIG! lol
To be honest though, I always forget about SC3 because I have my precious SC2.
I liked SC3--Raphael was good but they changed his design/face quite a bit, made him look older but at least he didn’t lose his sense of fashion ;). Anyway, I just absolutely love SC2. I’m not big fan of fighting games at all but SC is an exception. But that's just my opinion on the matter.
Blue Dragon --- August 2007!!!

SC is a well rounded franchise and it has a lot to offer. My favorite Namco fighting game by quite a large margin.
Raphael is actually one of the few characters I've never put much time into.. so I'm not even fully aware of how he really changed in SC3. For the most part I really enjoyed the character revisions though.. plus the game feels different.. which is offsetting at first but imo it really grows on you quite a bit.
After playing SC3 it got difficult to move back to SC2, although I think both games hold up fairly well today.. that's mostly because I love Cassandra in SC3.. going back to playing w/ her in SC2 feels like such a massive downgrade.

- Just to show how much detail they're putting into the visuals: "The leather straps on Ivy's thighs make real-time indentations into her skin as she fights."
- They're actually rendering Taki's nipples under her leotard. No, i'm not kidding.-ITAGAKI HAS BEEN 1UP'd!
- New fighters will be kept under wraps until closer to release.
- Guard Impact will be back.
- The stage backgrounds are very early, so remember that when screens are released.
- Stages will be far more interactive and play a part in the gameplay. They give an example of Zasalamel's clock tower.
- They're hoping to reduce ring-outs by making the stages much larger.-BOooo, and yeah!
- SC3 is the base they're starting from for balance reasons.
- Patching the game is possible if any issues come up, but "we don't intend to make a game that needs to be patched at a later date."
-The health gauge is going to be changed. There'll be a way to beat your opponent that doesn't involve the health gauge or ring-outs.-Interesting?
- No tag-team play.
- On Soul Calibur for the PSP: "We're happy to hear that players would like to see Soulcalibur on PSP, so we'll keep that in mind."-Just make it already you bastards!
- The Create-a-Soul mode is getting major improvements like being able to change your characters voice and certain customizations will have an effect on gameplay.
-Online custom character trading is a possibility, as well as bringing your custom character to a friends house.-Cool

as for this. im surprised there isnt more character speculation. i personally think kratos would own in soul calibur, not only does he fit in stylistically, but his weapons are a unique adition to the series, and finally there would be someone able to match kiliks range.

Blue Dragon - Lost Odyssey - Eternal Sonata - Final Fantasy XIII - Cry On - Ninja Gaiden 2 - Heavenly Sword - Assassin's Creed - Devil May Cry 4 - Resident Evil 5 - Naruto 360 - Mass Effect - Alan Wake - Too Human -Infinite Undiscovery
i like cameo characters. Mr. tekken in SC2 was great, and despite lacking weapons fit in REALLY well and most importantly was balanced, as was link in the GC version. the xbox version was the only poor choice imo, spawn seems wrong, he played moderately ok, but just didnt fit imo.
i think kratos would be a great adition if done well. i'd prefare him, with his unique weapons, then yet ANOTHER character using yet ANOTHER variation of the sword. i mean, they've covered a lot, bows, knives, swords, axes, nun-chucks, but kratos has something new and something i think will work REALLY well. i know i'd prefare him to say, master chief with a plasma sword that'd be fucked up.
as long as their balanced i couldnt care less. and if their not, the simple fact they're in the game is a + point, becasue those who disslike them, dont use them. everyones happy.
Halo 3 | Mass Effect | Crysis | Assassin's Creed | GTA IV | Call of Duty 4
I sure the fock hope not. GOD I hope not.
