When a game like this has Max Payne 1 and 2's shoulders to stand on, with games like Dead to Rights exploring more inteactive mechanics, this should have been the Gears of War to the Killswitches in the world. Instead it's barely distinguishable from those other games if it weren't for bananas flying everywhere.
Okay, lots of bananas.

This game bases itself on the movie and all the over the top stuff Max Payne took itself down a story that was gripping you.
It might not beat Max Payne but for me this game lives up to what its based on. :) And we only get a glimpse of the game itself we dont know what rest of game offers.
My housemate (ps3 owner) was glued to the spot watching me play through the demo, especially after I shot a guy through the balls in slow motion with the Bomb thing.
Also the multi player video at the end looks like a laugh... deffo a big suprise for me.
8/10 for the demo, rare for me to play through more than once.
here's why:
-the moves automatically happen (sometimes works and looks cool), but when i walk up to a table to take cover behind it throws me into a running speed slide over it
-tequila time looks like crap. sepia, not very inventive.
-tequila time happens automatically when i dont want it to
-cheap and tacky HUD
-there's more but i'm boring myself talking about it
the vid inside the restaurant looked awesome (that should have been the demo), but it seems that flawed controls make this game more fun to watch than to play.

all good things must come to an end
But over all i really enjoyed. Above all, the direction. Super cinematic sometimes and that makes a hell of a difference, sucks you in (the cool animations when you shoot someone using the power thing for example)
Got my attention, maybe a buy (but i doubt what with all thats coming the rest of this year...)

Some bad news today for Playstation 3 owners. Midway sent out a press release this afternoon which contains the exact release date for John Woo Presents: Stranglehold. The PC and Xbox 360 versions will both be released on August 27 but the pressrelease does not say anything about the Playstation 3 release.
Dutch website PS3Only contacted Midway why there was no mention of the Playstation 3 release. They just got a response from Midway which contained the bad news that Stranglehold for the Playstation 3 has been delayed for an unknown time. Although it will definitely be out this year, it seems it won't make the previous september release.
Halle Berry: Delgado i am feeling really reall dirty tonight, shall i call Jessica Simpson for a threesome?
Delgado: HALLE what have i told you about bothering me when i'm playing Mass Effect!!! now get out and dont come back for 2 months!! (Slams door
That's not necessarily a negative though, I just don't see it.
The game is all around fun, though there's way too many things that need to be worked out. The automatic interaction with the environment can be glitchy for example, and the AI is just there to get shot, they really do nothing special and their positions are always CLEARLY set before-hand. They always seem to be behind something you can shoot and then it'll fall over them.
It's so to the point that you can always look up first and shoot whatever it's up there instead of the guy.
I thought the stand-offs were pretty damn cool, but I'm hoping for a little bit more freedom of movement. The precision aiming too was really good, and well the interaction with the environment and the damage you can do to it.......most of the time.
So now the bad. I played it on default difficulty and it was an absolute walk in the park, though I wonder if anything other than hit damage changes with a higher difficulty. I understand the game is all about over the top action, but it can get boring/repetitive since the AI is just going to be waiting there.
Sound I believe was standard, nothing bad, nothing impressive either.
Animations were rough, especially when rolling on the ground, that looked kind of ridiculous/unfinished (IT IS! I know). Graphics overall are not consistent though. For one the game seems to be running at what I BELIEVE is 60fps, it looks really smooth. The problem is that sometimes the game looks really good, and at other times, it reminds me of Shenmue II on Xbox, especially characters--Some look good, some don't. Also, a design/art decision I didn't like was the slow motion tint! Why does the screen have to go to this yellowish color? It hides detail and characters, overall it's a detraction rather than an attraction. So I hope there's an option for that.
The extremely short loading times are a big + I believe. Another thing that seems to be shaping up quite well is the story and cutscenes.
Overall it leaves me with a good impression, not something I'll be buying with such a tight gaming agenda this year, but it does look like a fun, good game.
