my goodness, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted blow everything away!
For most gamers with refined taste almost anything below a 70% is unplayable / not worth the time, effort, investment, etc.
Realistically you range for "games you will play" is 70%-100%. 85% being "average". The industry has matured enough that "average" means "good" but also asks, "But will you like the design, story, etc". Only great, outstanding, or transcendant games ask, "Screw your tastes--you gotta play this". An average FPS is a quality title that stands out from the crap but doesn't scare the big boys. That is pretty typical of 80's titles.
Of course there are issues like bell curve and few games breaking over 95%, but in reality 85% is average for a solid FPS. Which then begs the question: If there are 20 FPS released this year and 5 in the great area (90% or above) and 10 in the average zone (80-90%), that squarely puts an average game in a pack of 15 other similar-or-better quality games.
Of course it is just a score. Obviously the theme didn't stand out much to Lebato... likewise a mid-80s single player FPS does little to excite me whereas a mid/upper 80 team based FPS excites me. To each their own.
The fans have spoken. Concerning the graphics of the Halo 3 Beta: "There's so many little effects and things going on that make this game pretty much 2nd only to Gears at the moment."
When I spin around and I focus on the hands/guns of my character it blurs alot. Is this what the programmers intended?? It blurs alot..
Just wondering because the backgrounds blur a bit in most games I play but never usually the hands/guns but in this game everything blurs. Just wondering if that's intended for this game.
Halo 3 | Mass Effect | Assassin's Creed | GTA IV | Half Life 2
It's sort of annoying to me, kills my eyes
If you think Metacritic is a good measure, then 83% sounds about average to me. We are talking first person shooters here, not an adventure game.
An afterthoughts 8 player multiplayer mode and your average 10 hour game don't sound like anything above average to me either.
But whatever, I know I don't have the right to opinion unless I actually play the game. Well no, I can pretty much decide if I like a game and can clearly see what's wrong with it by simply watching videos. Yes, I'm that special. Again, looks like a rental to ME.
This was despite the fact that I never read th manual and played for hours not knowing how to switch Darkness power :s
A good solid purchase that I would recommend - 80 -something %
Could have beeen higher but...
Also picked up Res evil 4 for the Wii and quite frankly it's frickin Awesome.
I'm Spartacus!
I tried this game on my tv obviously an LCD and my living room tv a plasma, and they both do it.

And why did they decide to blur the gun/hands and even the red dot??
Awesome
That alone makes the game quality!
I read a review and the reviewer was complaining about a lack of map but I actually thought using the street signs to find my way around the city worked out really well. It was much more immersive than if you were just given a mini map and used that to find your way to the next objective.
As far as graphics go I thought they were good all around. It's one of those things where nothing on it's own stands out, it's more of the sum of all it's parts that come together and make it a good looking game. And I really liked the loading screens. Gave you little insides to the story and looked cool. Really well done.
And last is the combat. I was hoping for more but it was fun. As far as the auto aim goes I suggest you go into the settings and turn that down. Much more fun that way.
Starbreeze definitely has a great trademark style going with this and Riddick. The adventure game style pacing and hub area coupled with sort of adventurized shooting/combat mechanics feels really good to lose yourself in, and while a lot of what's going on isn't perfect, it's still plenty good enough.
But it is the storytelling that these games really nail. Riddick had a much less rewarding story, yet it really made the character feel awesome and the escape well deserved. Here however we're in an entirely new league of intrigue and drama. I can seriously tell you I was blown away by some moments here.
A question though that bugs me, for those of you who have completed it;
Who took the money? When Jackie goes to collect the money (which we don't see) the money is gone and Paulie thinks Jackie stole it. That's the reason for the total shitfest that follows, and the very catalyst for Jenny's death, yet this is never resolved properly. We just know Jackie didn't take it and that Paulie was blaming the wrong guy, but we don't know who really set Jackie up in the first place.
Or did we and I'm just slow? :)
And lastly. I salute Starbreeze for making a truly gripping story out of a pretty stupid Spawn/Crow-wannabe comic. The subtlety with which the supernatural elements are handled, and their true resonance within the story is worthy of much praise.
Now run along and turn something else I never thought I'd enjoy into something I'll thoroughly enjoy! :)
Phaethon, the forum Spectre.
Shrote also later notes how paranoid Paulie is, which sort of supports the notion that Paulie would easily suspect someone close to him.
