I have to admit that most of my memories come from Syndicate Wars, but that was definitely not just a shooter. But I guess we've seen third person shooters tackle tactics before, perhaps Syndicate will attempt to keep true to the franchise. Still--What a gross simplification of the facts. It was actually pretty damn unique.

Does the new Syndicate have similar tactical gameplay as the original and Wars?

Having not played them I can still guess with a resounding "not really".

I am going to take these reboots as something completely different to the originals and as new IPs, I think it will stand up better that way.

That said, Fallout 3 didn't really suffer from becoming a 1st/3rd person shooter, I think that was carried on the strength of its story telling and narration though.

I don't know. Syndicate was a unique game, a shooter with isometric perspective and some tactical depth, however there were a bunch of 1st/3rd person games that offered more tactical gameplay, eg. Rainbow Six 1-3. Syndicate was no X-Com or Jagged Alliance. Even if they do not recreate the gameplay mechanics, not much will be list in the process. However, its 4 player coop campaign is supposed to have remade missions from the first game, so I guess at least that part will be somewhat similar.

Nowadays gamers would be owned in first few missions in both xcom and syndicate ( not to mention awesome jagged alliance ).
How do You understand "remade missions" ? They will just make similiar objectective and hope that oldskool gamers will jizz. Its just milking the legendary franchise and other devs will follow. I can already imagine new Baldurs Gate as TPP hack'n slash with cover mechanism, sneaking in Sam Fisher style and of course HUGE quests markers to make everyone happy.
