No. It's not.

This is about the only interesting thing about Windows 8. It was clear from the moment they announced Windows 8 for ARM that they intended to build a platform around multiple devices. It's just a shame that the desktop version had to suffer the consequences. It's an interesting model, and the tablet looks very nice. Waiting for a price. And a hack that lets me dual boot Ice cream Sandwich.

They need to explain what this means beyond buzzwords. How does the digitizer in this thing work? The Galaxy Note Tablet was a step in the right direction for on the go sketching.. but the software isn't there. I wonder if Microsoft's hardware will support a solution that could give a real professional use for a tablet. That would be amazing. I'm not holding my breath though. These things are entertainment devices.

I see buttons on the stylus. Give me pressure sensitivity and the right software and I'm sold.

This could actually replace my HP Touchsmart 2 if it's got the right feature set.

Unfortunately, Windows for ARM is a bit walled off. Functionally, the OS should be as robust as its desktop brother.. but the software won't ever be on the same level.

Oh, I think you're right. Pro on x86 priced to compete with Ultrabooks, RT on ARM priced to compete with other tablets.

But will the Pro version keep the same form factor and battery life...

It also sounds like the Windows RT version will be first to market. It makes sense. There's probably a much bigger potential market there. Entertainment devices.

I think basically RT = more scalled back and a closed system, whereas the pro-intel vers will be full featured and more open?

Windows RT = Windows for ARM. They're taking a very Apple-like walled garden approach to software on ARM. Applications for Windows RT will only be available through the Windows Store.

It's basically Windows without the freedom that makes Windows bearable ;)

It'd be silly to expect it not to be larger... but there's not much detail on what the actual hardware is so guessing was pretty pointless.

Still is. I wouldn't call those details. A Core i5 is more than a little more "stuff" though.

Looks like pro is the one to watch out for.
Indeed it is, but I wouldn't underestimate the RT version, which may very well be packing an Nvidia Tegra 3 chip. Even without the full fledged Windows 8 desktop, it should still be a pretty damn impressive tablet.

However, I'm going for the pro all the way. I was excited before, but after seeing more pictures of the thing, the design truly is amazing. This thing really looks like they obsessed pretty heavily over the design. It's pretty damn elegant looking. Do I need one? Nope, but it's something I want in the worst possible way. There has yet to come a tablet that ever truly made me believe that it could have a legitimate shot at becoming my most used computing device, but this looks like it could be the one.

Tablet based apps can be hit or miss, and while I'm sure that quite a few really nice pieces of software will be released for the RT version, there's simply no going wrong with the pro version. It will surely cost a quite a bit, I'm sure, but it seems like it should definitely be worth it.

And, honestly, do we even need to question how incredible the integration will likely be with things like the Xbox 360 and, no doubt, the next gen Xbox? I didn't include PCs because the Pro surface pretty much is a PC, but the RT version should certainly have interesting integration with other Microsoft products as well.
