Driftwood keeps providing us with some Xbox One X content with the latest update for Homefront: The Revolution, which increases the game's resolution to 1800p (the interface is rendered in native 4K though), makes it possible to play Time Splitters 2 in native 4K and also improves the quality of textures and the framerate. To finish, although we cannot show it to you just yet, HDR has been implemented on both Xbox One S and Xbox One X.

The Spring Update for Homefront: The Revolution has been released by Deep Silver and it brings several things. First, throughout the month console players can try the game for free with the Trial mode, starting today on Xbox One and March 14 on PS4. Second, PS4 Pro owners can enjoy enhanced visuals thanks to the dedicated patch. Finally, the third and final single-player DLC Beyond The Walls is available for free to Expansion Pass owners and to purchase separately for $12.99. After several PC videos showing the game at its best, we have now some videos of Homefront: The Revolution on Xbox One. The technical aspect is unfortunately not particularly glorious, with a framerate generally oscillating between 20 and 30 fps while adding long and annoying freezes for several seconds during automatic saves.

After almost a month, Homefront: The Revolution has become more playable than it was at launch on PC. The Xbox One version that Davton tried yesterday still suffers from a fluctuating framerate and long freezes every time the game auto-saves (which also happens on PC sadly), but you'll get to see it in action soon in a dedicated news article. As for the PC version, we could play at a more or less steady 60 fps with high settings last week when we still had our SLI of 970s, but the power of our GTX 1080 now allows us to push it to very high. The only technical issue that still happens is a big one though: some sort of memory leak issue that makes the game less and less smooth as you play it. Provided the developers fix it and the price drops a bit, the game might deserve your attention, as we actually did enjoy what we played today. It's far from being the best FPS out there, but it's also far from being the worst.

Homefront: The Revolution is now available on PC and consoles therefore you can find after the jump the traditional launch trailer. Moreover, Deep Silver reveals details about the game's Expansion Pass which will bring content to the "30-hour" single-player campaign. New districts will come in 2016 with The Voice of Freedom and Aftermath and a bigger expansion, Beyond the Walls, will follow in 2017.

Homefront: The Revolution will be out soon, and despite some effective gameplay mechanics and some nice ideas, we cannot recommend it to you guys. The main (but not only) problem is the game's performance, whether on PC or consoles. We were hoping for a patch at the end of last week, or at least early this week, so we waited until yesterday evening to capture some footage on our rig (i7 6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 Go RAM/DDR4, Windows 10, SLI Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 Gigabyte OC) but it hasn't come yet. With most settings set to low, the game cannot hold a steady 60 fps framerate (actually setting everything to low makes little to no difference sadly), and as you can imagine, framerate is even more all over the place with very high settings or if you're playing on consoles. Hopefully, a patch will come out soon to address these issues, but until then, be warned that the lack of optimization is very damaging to the overall experience.
