Xbox 360 PS3

Activision released these 2 new images of Tony Hawk Project 8, showing some quite nice graphics. Hopefully in motion it will be good too, as the latest gameplay video didn't seem to get a very good usage of the wonderful animations shown in the E3 trailer.

the tony hawk series has never been known for good graphics, so the mediocrity of this game's aesthetics comes as no surprise to me

Looks awesome?! The columns in the tower on the first pic seem to be a flat texture and I can count the texels of the lowres wall texture in the second pic.

A 360 can do much better.

Definately better than THAW, but i wouldn't excactly call it awsome... I would be expecting quite a bit more from a next gen console.

Not impressed in the least. Everything that I have seen of this game, looks like what Tony Hawk should have looked like on the original Xbox. The only thing graphically this game is doing that is not possible on the original system is hi-def and 4xFSAA and that's about it.

But considering this is Neversoft and they have a long history of not fully exploiting any hardware platform's capabilities, then I guess sadly that is to be expected.

Here is the worst thought of all. Judging by the past actions of Activision and Neversoft on the Tony Hawk franchise, this will most likely be the one and only Tony Hawk engine upgrade for this entire generation; we won't see another until X3 and PS4 come out. So a year from now, or two or three years from now, when more and more X360 and PS3 games are looking more and more like CGI with each successive year, all Tony Hawk games will look exactly like what you see in the images above with maybe a couple of very minor tweeks along the way. With all the hundreds of millions of dollars that fans the world over have forked over to Activision purchasing games in the Tony Hawk series, it seems to me Activision would have made Treyarch and Neversoft periodically overhaul the Tony Hawk engines as nothing more than a reward to the fans who are loyal enough to continue to blow their cash on the series. Maybe even bring in an asset team to overhaul the engines to make better use of system power or even license already existing engines (like UE3, Source, Doom 3, Offset, Renderware 2, Crytek 2, or any number of other engines that are on the market or soon to be on the market) which makes better use of system power and capabilities. No, Tony Hawk fans never get that kind of love. What a shame.

I look at those photos and the couple videos that I have seen of Tony Hawk Project 8, and I can't help but think to myself, "this is what Tony Hawk should look like on the Nintendo Wii."

I'm so depressed about this new game too.. I mean the first trailers with just slow mo tricks was cool, and it really looked like they would be going for realism... something that hasn't been done for skateboarding recently.. I think the last realistic skateboarding game was Thasher for the ps1.. which was always awesome with it's ragdolls when you slamed into things and stuff... yet when the recent images and trailers for tony hawks "Project 8" came, it looked all the same. I don't want to go 35 miles per hour and grind forever... I WANT REALISM IN A SKATEBOARDING GAME! I DON'T EVEN SKATEBOARD DANG IT!!!

That's about what this is, really. They've apparently toned down a whole lot of the craziness apparent in all the Tony Hawk games since 2, and it's more like the originals with better graphics now.
