why do they put those nasty photo realistic textures all over it, the first image has some flat mapped grass that seems to be at a gigantic scale...maybe its the scale thats the problem, not the photagraphiness.

Thing is, regardless of it looking like crap (although the lego all looks cool), I bet its still good to play.

I don't really have an issue with the textures, just think of it like some novelty set some kid set up and stuck magazine pictures all over his cereal boxes to create the scene. I mean lego isn't realistic anyway, having things mismatch and kitschy is all for the better.

what i find wierd about these lego games is that they end up really simply, not only gamplay wise, but graphically as well. a game like this could definately afford tho throw a ton more polys around with high res textures for the environments and a dynamic ligthing system...and yet they look like this....which i can only describe as 'flat'...you'd think they'd be able to afford to make the lego connecting notches look round at least...not hexagonal.

i mean seriously, its not like they're having to model lifelike people, and enemies with complex AI routines or anything, all that saved power could go into making the game look amazing. but they chose not to...shame really.

That's because lego is small.

1. Graphics involving a Jungle are harder to do than the slick, smooth environments in Star Wars.

2. Lego games have always had simplistic designs.

3. It's also coming to the Wii.

I think the fact that the games are multiplatform is the biggest reason, second biggest is they know they don't HAVE to use all the latest graphics techniques to sell a lot.

Technically I have no doubt they could make the legos themselves look photoreal if they really put in the work, but would it be worth it?

imo, yes. if a dev isnt willing to put in any genuine effort on thier side, why should i, the consumer, go through the effort of actually buying and playing their games.

lazy devs dont get any support from me.

Because gameplay matters more to the developers of Lego games. Didn't you play Lego Star Wars? I thought you knew this.
