PS3

Sony released these 8 new and beautiful images of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. After last week's demo there is not much doubt anymore about the quality of this game.

It's amazing to think that first gen PS3 games are looking better than second and third gen 360 games, which has arguably been maxed out in terms of potential. I can't wait to see how things look when devs begin exploiting Cell to the fullest.

I like the art style and the character models, other than that, nothing impressive. Gears didn't impress me, graphically and Viva Pinata is the last game that did and it still reigns supreme in the graphics dept.

Too be perfectly honest here... the Demo was pretty underwhelming in that the game is simply way too straight forward, a.k.a linear. The visuals are good but lack a sense of polish like Kameo did and not to forget Viva Pinata. For some reason the effects don't really come off the screen, exlpode, like kameo did.

There' s no denying that the Devs are talented but when I heard one of them say that the visuals are easily comparable to Pixars animation I would say look again and look really hard because if there's any game that comes closer to any of Pixars animations than it still is Kameo. And that was a 1st gen game.

I know this is a Demo and I am not worried about the bad frame rate that plagued it because those will hopefully make an exit right before the game goes gold.

Really hope that some of the later levels will incorporate some better challenges other than jump and shoot.

And, yeah, mind you... the visuals in those screenshot have all undergone a polish in Photoshop. That is why they look so slick!

The graphics are really cool (not only for a PS3 game), but in terms of gameplay it looks really generic. When I saw the first image, I thought it was cool for a lot of things are going on on the screen. But every image looks really crowded and messy. If the whole game turns out to be that exhausting and doesn't have a brilliant new gameplay idea, then it's the next one in the row of no-need-to-buy PS3 games.

And how can that be first gen? Nearly one year after launch? kicking Gears of Wars butt?

But still the best PS3 game up to date

In fact, if you played the demo on a decent TV you'd know that the game does in fact look that good.

Decent TV? Well if you don't consider a Philips PFL9732D Full HD by any means a decent tv than I think you are making up image loss for what your telly is displaying.

But you are right, there's no denying that the game looks good but not AS GOOD as those slick screenies!

I played the demo and to me the game does look that good. But each individual will judge a games graphics differently. There are a lot of factors a lot of people don't take into account. Type of TV, resolution and calibration of said TV. If your TV is not calibrated correctly you'll miss out on color richness and detail regardless how good your TV is. And something else a lot of people forget is the individual’s eyesight itself. There are certain degrees of color blindness in each of us (there's color blindness test patterns on the net you'd be surprised to know which colors are less visible to you). So in short we can all be seeing this or any other game on the same TV at the same time and we would all have a different opinion on it. In that case the majority opinion would rule.

Cheboury you are an idiot.

I own Kameo and I have the Ratchet and Clank gamestop demo, as well as the PSN demo of it. They both look significantly better than Kameo does. Kameo looked okay but it was nothing that special. If it wasn't a launch title it would not have had great graphics comparitively.

The Gamestop demo of R&C had some noticeable tearing/performance issues, and the PSN demo doesn't have any sign of them at all. R&C PSN demo is one of the smoothest looking games I've ever played. The art style is just so awesome.

Also if you had ever even played any R&C games, the first level typically is pretty straight forward and linear. It's like ae the "get used to the controls / tutorial" type of level. After that they open up a bit more.

It's funny how fanboys and uninformed people can just jump to these ignorant conclusions.

I agree - there is a grafic bug with fullHD sets that leads to pixelation. they know about it and are working on it but the game has gone gold...

http://www.ripten.com/2007/10/16/ratchet-and-clank...

don't judge the gameplay on the demo - if you know the older ratchets you know what I mean... it wont be that linear all the time. (Free Roam Extensive Environments)

Brian Allegier, creative director for Sony’s Ratchet & Clank franchise, talks with Mercury News gaming writers Dean Takahashi and Mike Antonucci about the latest Ratchet game. Brian confirms that RCFTOD will run at 60 frames per second, include Free Roam Extensive Environments, Optional game points, 16 hours+ game play, extensive replay value, unlockables, and extras.

Purbeast, I'll take idiot over ignorant any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

Quoting you:
"It's funny how fanboys and uninformed people can just jump to these ignorant conclusions."

I think this holds more truth than you actually thought before typing it. Because it comes directly from an ignorant, confused mind that can't stand anybody's opinion when it conflicts with your unerring blinded devotion to what probably cost you a years salary!

Sorry, shouldn't have said that because it also cost me a years salary!

Bottom line: The game will undoubtly be awesome but we will have to see what the finished product will be like.

Btw: just saw that R&C got its second review and scored a terrific 89%! It's no 100% but close nevertheless! Hope you can sleep over that score tonite my friend!

Dutch OPM game scores
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction: 89%
Aqua Vita (PSN): 41%
Conan: 81%
Half Life 2: The Orange Box: 93%
Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights: 69%
Operation Creature Feature (PSN): 48%
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008: 88%
Snakeball (PSN): 66%
The Eye of Judgement: 80%
The Simpsons Game: 79%
Trials of Topoq (PSN): 52%

Bloody Xbox360 keep snatching away those high scores! Bummer! Oops I forgot I too own an Xbox 360 and a.... (what cost me a years salary!)

Eh? Kameo was a N64 game that became a Xbox 360 launch game. It threw lots of stuff on screen but it looked rather crude: ugly character designs, garish colors, and lots and lots of bumpmapping effects which made the game look like everything was made from shiny plastic. I recently played the beginning of the game and you can really tell from the visuals it's a two year old game.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction however is one of the best looking games to be released on any platform this year yet you think it looks at most as good as Kameo? You Sir, are the troll.

First off, Inso[quote=ManThatYouFear]How is this first gen ps3 game ? it is second gen

also, there a damn good dev

I agree with Manny here, that Insomniac are a great developer and far outweigh the competition at the moment, as they seem to have embraced the Cell`s akward architecture way better than anybody else has........yet.

True, it is a platformer, but it`s one of those games that`s lived up to the hype with regards to the visuals. The demo was a tad straight forward, but in 1080p it looked simply stunning!. Maybe it`s simplicity was down to the fact that a demo should be fun, not tiresome.

Either way, this game, coupled with Uncharted, are my two most wanted PS3 games this year. Add to that all the great 360 releases (Mass Effect etc) and pc games such as Tabula Rasa, and we`re in for an absolutely amazing gamer-fuelled xmas of epic proportions me thinks! :0)
