The developers at The Creative Assembly talk about the creation process of their game's ultimate hunter, from their inspirations and AI to other factors that helped designing the Alien. Alien: Isolation is set to release in late 2014.
It'll be hard to recreate the atmosphere of the 1st movie, especially since we all know what the Alien looks like, so good luck with that. I'd say it's impossible, but as long it behaves as smart they're claiming it does i'm confident the game will be a thrilling experience.
Even with a basic AI this concept worked fantastic in Miasmata in my opinion, So I don't see why it wouldn't work in this one. It is true that we know too well the xenomorph to be scared about his looks, but is his behaviour wich really matters, I mean the green horned tiger of Miasmata looks ridiculous and for me it was menacing everytime my heart started to beat. The only thing to complain is that I dislike these hyping with smoke and mirrors developers videos.
Only thing is I wish they were using lit particles. It just looks wrong when the sparks fly and they don't light their surroundings as they fall. But I imagine that to be fairly taxing... Maybe the PC build then.

Hard to get excited after so many failed attempts, but there is always hope.
Except that all those failed attempts(which really there were only two recently: AvP and Colonial Marines. The first PC AvP was amazing and sequel was pretty good also) were all trying to be the same type of game. This is something totally different and new for the franchise. Plus it's a bit unreasonable to form negative expectations based on other developers' work. As you said there is always hope.
I like the use of DOF in this. That little first bit reminds me of the opening on the Facility level in Goldeneye when you start in the air vents. Does anyone know what engine this game is using? The footage certainly looks like it's current gen.

They've said it's an in-house engine specifically built for the game.
I wonder how the focus works mechanically. In one shot the tracker is completely out of focus.
This is one game you can confidently predict wont have save states. I mean how dumb would that be. Not that you could ever convince some people. Who knows though, maybe it will

AvP for PC was *amazing* those were the days, the only good days for an Aliens game

yea I figured it could be something like that, but also whether pressing a button to focus would actually feel right.
I guess it could add to some intensity to the game if, for example you press LT to bring the tracker into focus.
I think it'll definitely add to the intensity. Sort of like in Outlast where you can't run if you're crouched so you have to remember to hit the crouch button again before you run for your life. Had a fun time learning that the hard way.

You don't sound confident. I saw the movie on Laser Disc back in 1983. I'm pretty sure the will recreate it just fine. This team has the skills, game engine and most of all respect for the original. Sound FX and Sound track for the game will also be another huge character in the game which they are putting alot of work into with up to DTS 7.1 Audio. But most of these young kids all over the forums wouldn't even think of things like that. They don't know what its like to come from Kaleko Vision and Atari to what we have now days.
