heh it's looking like how you survive is run/hide/run/hide.

I really fancy preordering this but they've shown so little of it that i have a feeling i may regret it

Yea at a basic level run/hide will probably be the gist of it, but I think the atmosphere & setting look to make it really compelling. At least it should be a nice change from "left trigger, right trigger".

No harm in waiting to see how it fairs in reviews though.

This gametrailers preview makes it sound exactly what I was hoping it be:

Actually, there is, where you don't get any of the pre-order DLCs. Not trying to nitpick, that's just the truth:

You either buy it on faith and risk losing $60 or you wait for reviews and if you decide to buy it, you will have to wait for the DLCs to be released at a later date and also have to pay for them.

I really wish publishers start doing what Nintendo did - not sure if it still does - where it gave free DLCs, like Day 1 DLCs and pre-order DLCs, during a time period, I believe it was 2 weeks.

So you could wait for reviews and if you decided to buy it in that time period, you wouldn't be penalised for it.

Like Sdarts says, you lose what looks like pretty substantial fan service if you don't preorder - something i'm also not a fan of (getting less content for not buying day 1..yet still asked to support them the same with my money).

The run/hide mechanic i don't doubt they've nailed that...though this generally works best for short games..clearly not something than can be carried over for 15+ hours or however long the games gonna be, and still keep tensions high without figuring out patterns and it becoming more a case of frustration.

It all comes down to how well other mechanics (that we've seen very little of - 30seconds of gun play now?) work with the tone of the game portrayed so far. And a decent story to keep that atmosphere and a sense of pace going when there's no doubt going to be alot of back tracking thoughout.

Plus, it's an Alien game at the end of the day...that alone is enough to make you a tad cautious

Yea, though you have to be careful not to let that stuff dictate the value of the game.

I mean if a games worth getting on day one, it should be worth getting without the pre-order incentives. So whilst I might miss out on a free bit of content, I'd rather be sure that the quality of the base game is actually worth the price. After I am buying this for the main story.

Also isn't this pre-order thing is just a piece of what's going on sale later? If you buy the "season pass" you'd probably won't miss out in terms of value.

Exactly...which makes it all the more worrying that they've been promoting the game on the back of the pre-order incentive...when we've hardly seen any of the actual game itself really...considering its out in a matter of weeks now

It's such a shame that the Alien franchise has been done to a death on film, screwed in-game (thanks Colonial Marines), and is so popular, that trying to make anything fresh or innovative as a result is going to be pretty much impossible. It's going to be a love letter for sure, but one written by a vegetable. With crayons. :(

you have? so you have a good idea of the variety of enemies you'll come into contact with throughout the game and how much is run and hide from the alien? If there's any sort of online component? if you leave the ship? if it's going to turn into a typical fps at some point?

All i've seen is that same area of the ship during hide and seek fetch quests, and some 30 second clips. Hardly a decent amount just yet for a game that's out in less than 2 weeks?

As far as I know, the other AI's, beyond the Alien, are human survivors & pirates as well as androids, and they vary in how hostile/aggressive they are to the player.

The extent of the online component is just the leaderboard based stuff in the pre-order/DL content.

Also whether you leave the ship or not, I don't know. And I'd guess something like that stuff could be baked into the plot in such a way that they wouldn't necessarily show it or talk about it, if it happens at all.

I think you were correct initially in saying the game is mostly just hide & seek with the Alien. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few surprise sections where you shoot some guys. I mean you defiantly get a gun & you can shoot guys.

I feel I know what this game is, I am just apprehensive as to it's length & overall quality.
