Trailer Xbox 360 PS3

Alpha Protocol is finally out so here is its launch trailer. While many players have put on their cowboy outfit, it might be a bit harder for the game to find its place in the sun.

Oh man, Mr. Agent Michael Mike "Darling" Thorton looks like a complete dope in that shot. Gonna look even dopier when I put silly hats and beards on his head.

I'm getting this. Because I'm also getting the impression it's doing one thing very well, and that thing is kind of cool.

Yeah it definitely sounds like it plays a whole lot better than it looks. Might purchase it in a couple of weeks.

The concept has monster potential, but I really don't like the design of the main character. It screams blandness

Ya, it looks interesting.

Doesn't look too good graphically (will certainly be improved on PC in the future), but i think the RPG and story parts should be the strong points?

Won't buy it for now though, will wait a weekend deal :(

Actually this plays worse than it looks. The control system is broken and the camera completely useless. It has a lot of cool ideas and I am sure it will improve as you learn more skills but at the start you feel less like a lethal assassin and more like a blind chimp.

it pretty much comes off as this=

Obsidian's RPG pedigree SHINES

Obsidian's action pedigree... well... its non-existence shows

unfortunately Obsidian felt the need to add their take on the shooter/rpg fad that is the flavor of the month for WRPGs these days

which means half this game is bloody awesome
the other half just makes you want to cut yourself in frustration

on the bright side you can avoid the poorly implemented action elements to a certain degree, but not completely
and the fact that you'd want to avoid the action somewhat affects the malleability of the design

so... its a bit of what, and how much, are you willing to ignore in order to enjoy the good half.

After all the rumours (dubious review embargoes) and delays this game had I wouldn't give it a second thought. If you still do I'd recommend reading the reviews on Destructoid and/or Joystiq. Other than the appeasing main stream media they actually have a real opinion about this.

Alpha Protocol is kind of problematic for me...on one side the story, dialogue and witty writing is great but then the actual gameplay is complete balls. Buggy, ugly, poorly animated and AI retarded beyond belief. I'm still enjoying it but it lacks a LOT in the gameplay department, however the characters interactions with each other still makes it worth it. And it feels like a game where you actually have quite a few impact-full choices. I haven't finished the game so ofc i'm not certain but it feels like things could be quite different if i had made other choices.

A good game for simplified console style RPG buffs, but don't expect the shooting to be especially good.

I hope they make a second part. Just get a designer that knows how a good shooter works and perhaps brush up a little on the GFX side and we have a game worthy of toppling Mass Effect any day.

how exactly have the "main stream media" (of which considering their readership numbers, joystiq and destructoid are closer to than some indie underground journal) been appeasing Alpha Protocol?

appeasement is the metacritic 90% for Mass Effect 1 original console release, a game with enough technical glitches to have dropped any other game down to at least the 8s. but thanks to being a Bioware game, got complete excused

Alpha Protocol's getting fairly poor reviews (66% metacritic)
if that's your idea of appeasement, you have a pretty funny impression of appeasement
