Xbox 360 PS3

EA just announced the sequel to American McGee’s Alice, for now titled Alice. The game is set to be released on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and one artwork was released.

EA press release:
Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Spicy Horse today announced that they have signed a publishing deal for an all-new title based on EA’s 2000 classic, American McGee’s Alice™. The game reunites EA with American McGee, the creative visionary behind the original game. The new title is in development for the PC, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game console.

“This new project is a dream come true for me and the fans who’ve kept the Alice flame alive,” said American McGee, senior creative director at Spicy Horse. “EA gave us creative latitude and support on the original game which resulted in something beautiful and daring. This trip through the looking glass promises to be even more exciting.”

“EA Partners is thrilled to team up with American McGee and Spicy Horse on the next installment of the Alice franchise,” said David DeMartini, senior vice president and general manager of EA Partners. “American McGee’s interpretation of Alice was an instant classic, and EA Partners is ready to help him bring his innovative vision for the franchise to even darker, more exciting places.”

I bought the first one for PC a few years ago and I did not like the game, but I'm still interested to see what this one delivers.

Really unexpected sequel...

Dear god, yes! Yes! YES!

I loved the first one back in the day. Now all we need is EA to sign Planet Moon Studios and give us MDK 3.

Seriously, is EA becoming too cool or what? First Brutal Legend and now this?

Yes, American McGee's Alice was a macabre take on Alice in Wonderland. It was a sequel to original stories, actually.

Didn't see that one coming. I wonder how this game will turn out, American McGee's games aren't what they used to be...

Wasn't this game supposed to be just a remake of the original game to be released together with the movie? Movie is slated for release in 2010 so that would fit.

Well, perhaps not exactly a sequel, but a spiritual sequel, American McGee's Oz.

I don't think there's very many people who ever played the first one, or even heard of it. I'm sure it has its following, but it's far far from a big name game IP.

Is this action, rpg or adventure? As long as it's not rpg then i'm already sold on the weirdness of it. Looks like something different than what I usually play and that's what I want this gen for myself. I checked my ps2 library and it's alot of sequels. I want to look at my ps3 library in years to come and say I tried some games out of my norm. Even if the genre's the same at least the franchises different.

The first one was a third person actiony platformer kind of thing.
I had a good time with it.

Great atmosphere with that dark wonderland theme.

The first game was so overrated. I know we all want to remember it as a good game, but the only good about it, was the concept of a gothic version of Alice In Wonderland. Felt kind of fresh back in 2000 and nobody had really done it before in a videogame, but the gameplay was terrible. The platforming was really stiff and awkward, some of the surfaces especially edges were slippery so you kind of floated all over the place and it was pretty shallow and nothing really spectacular about it.

Some of levels were kind of cool though, but it was a mixed bag really. There was some terrible ones as well. American McGee is an overrated game designer and I honestly think Alice was pretty overrated as well.

At last.

I'll happily sit this one next to my other favorite PC sequels to finally make the leap to consoles: BioShock and Fallout 3. Now if only we could get Tim Shafer to give us a sequel to Grim Fandango and Full Throttle, and my plot to take over console gaming will be complete.

MWAHAHAHAHA!!!
