New team and a new engine for Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel, that's well enough to get a proper introduction to the third episode of the franchise, peppered with gameplay sequences.

Someone else makes Army of 2, that's why.
DICE has their hands full with BF3, BFBC3, Medal of Honor already. They gotta spread it out
They've already confirmed a new Mirror's Edge, shit takes time.

Well, EA has decided that Frostbite 2.0 will be the engine for now and next-gen. Crytek will not be happy about that.

I have no idea why Army of 2 gets sequels and Mirror's Edge is still being questioned by EA. Release in March 2013? Highly doubt that as february and march are becoming so crowded with big titles.
I think army of 2, despite it's mediocrity, is still a pretty good seller. Mirrors edge was not.

Quality isn't measured by financial success.

I thought Army of 2 was a very generic, attempt-to-be-hip shooter. The game play was uninspired.

No but sales finance sequels.

This is developed by the Dead Space people no? Visceral games?

There is some hope in this.

My question was from a gamer's point of view, not a publisher's pov. I don't want Ao2, because previous game were averag at best. Mirror's Edge was a breath of fresh air.
I can't agree more, but if they make ME2 a Kinect game, they'll loose one customer.

Yeah, I don't know about that, as Visceral's Californian studio is making the Dead Space series, and the new Visceral Montreal is making the newest Army of two. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Would you want another studio to handle the sequel? My guess is no.

Also it's already been announced in development like I said. I'm sure it'll come out once all the fps's get their launch... although now they're doing BF4 apparently

And ice cream is cold. What exactly are we talking about here. Unless you guys are making money off this series, I fail to see any reason to discuss it's sales.

How about the game play, and what about it would make a gamer, like myself, want to purchase the game. I see nothing different from the first which was boring as shit.

But you are one person. Which goes back to sales. The franchise is obviously popular enough, and makes enough money to warrent a third sequel. You and i might not want it, and certainly not at the expense of a mirrors edge sequel, but a lot of people obviously do. It's the COD argument all over again. People complain it's the same old shit every year and is uninspired crap....but 10s of millions of people buy it every year. Hence they make more of the same every year to cater to to those millions of fans. They're not making games to cater to the few, they're making them to cater to the many. Clearly army of 2 does so. As does COD, no matter how much i think they're both shit.

Or, it could just be that the tastes of the fickle, is shit. It's that generational gap thing. And I certainly don't think it's 'okay' simply because that's the way it is, fuck that.
I still fail to see how it's relevant to showing me the goods. I could care less if they made COD 24, if the game play is good, and not simply a new cherry on a stale sundae, I'd get it. Regardless of the 'sales', I've got a mind of my own and that isn't what buys me. You've got to show me something that blows my skirt up.

Why do they need to impress you when they have 10s of millions of other people who will happily eat that cherry topped stale sundae called COD 24?

They're not going to change something that appeals to so many. Certainly not for the sake of the few.

Army of 2 may not have the popularity of COD, but it is clearly doing something right for the market their aiming for. If it wasn't, sales would be shit and they wouldn't be making a third. And we're back to raptors comment. Sales fund sequels. People can't be confused as to why mirrors edge doesn't get a sequel but this does...one was obviously more popular then the other...and it wasn't the one starting with an M and ending in edge.

Seriously, if you make games that don't appeal to enough gamers, then you won't be making games for very long. We can only hope that a dev has the integrity to make something more. If you think you should make a game that doesn't appeal to enough people to keep your business afloat, you and your employees had better be willing to work for free. Some people act like it's easy to make a great game.

I for one thought there was potential for the Ao2 concept. Maybe a new studio can make that happen..

I don't know why we're pretending like video games aren't expensive either. If you're lucky you can do two under-selling games in a row before your study needs to be "reconstructed". Additionally, why are we even assuming the people at DICE have any compelling ideas about what direction they would want to take a sequel in or if they even want to make another one. Mirror's Edge is one of my favorite games this generation, but outside of the aesthetic and most of the levels the game would need a massive overhaul.

Whatever you do, do not buy this game, it didn't deserve a sequel and it sure as hell doesn't deserve a another one, don't give EA the satisfaction.

Because this current gen, when a game publisher like EA takes a chance on a non-standard cookie cutter game like Mirror's Edge... the gamers turn around and buy Call of Duty or Army of 2...

I know I know I mention CoD but it IS the poster child of top sales this whole gen and game devs are nervous about spending money on a game that is not about mass murdering people in the face because of these ignorant gamers... oh sure they will get all vocal on the interwebs and say "ZOMG I like totally played Mirror's Edge and loved it, make a sequel plz" but what those gamers DON'T say is how they got that copy of Mirror's Edge... basically how they either borrowed it from a friend or bought it pre-owned where none of the profit goes back to EA/game dev.

DICE's Frostbite 2 engine as funded by EA is brilliant and makes the lazy game devs nervous in fear crapping their pants... don't rule out a sequel to Mirror's Edge tho because eventually this gen with much more refined game dev experience and Frostbite 2 engine refinements, EA might take another stab at a sequel or they will just wait for next gen... which is doubtful because it makes more fiscal sense to just make a sequel for the current gen consoles with a higher installed user base of owners who "might" buy the game for real at retail compared to 3 to 4 years ago.

Oh and will they finally reveal how Army of 2 is really a love story of two guys torn between love and war?
