Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is one of those games that everyone knows exist but hasn't been announced by the publisher. Well now it's official, with these two images.

SAN FRANCISCO – MAY 11, 2010 – Today Ubisoft® announces new product details for Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, the next iteration of the critically acclaimed, multi-million unit selling franchise. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood will ship Holiday 2010 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the PC. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is a worldwide production effort led by the Ubisoft Montreal Studio in collaboration with Ubisoft studios in Singapore, Bucharest, Québec City and Annecy, best known for developing the multiplayer in Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

The critically acclaimed single-player experience of Assassin’s Creed is back and better than ever as Ezio returns in an epic struggle against the powerful Templar Order. Now a legendary Master Assassin, he must journey into Italy’s greatest city, Rome, center of power, greed and corruption to strike at the heart of the enemy. Defeating the corrupt tyrants entrenched there will require not only strength, but leadership, as Ezio commands an entire Brotherhood that will rally to his side. Only by working together can the Assassins defeat their mortal enemies.

And for the first time, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood offers a never-before-seen multiplayer layer. Players can help the Templars by using Abstergo to train in the art of Assassination to eliminate the Assassins once and for all. Players can choose from a wide range of unique characters, each with their own signature weapons and assassination techniques, and match their skills against other players from all over the world in different game modes.

Assassins Creed Brotherhood is featured in a world-exclusive first look in the July issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, available on newsstands in North America on June 1, 2010.

" Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is a worldwide production effort led by the Ubisoft Montreal Studio in collaboration with Ubisoft studios...."

I guess this will be more like a Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow and not a true sequel. The second picture looks amazing though.

i would love a Call of Duty-esche vision of the IP, through different players necessarily and their personas, and not just a Skin A or B for the same character storyline.

Looks like they are trying to water down the franchise to me. I loved AC2 and even loved AC, but isn't getting a new AC game every 12 months going to get old?

This game could be totally amazing, but it also could be purely derivative - now with online death match.

We'll have to wait and see, but I hope Ubisoft is not so desperate to reuse AC2 assets to make more money, that they inadvertently make the series no longer seem special.

I think the developer has this in mind as an actual sequel, otherwise they would've called it AC3.

Just because it's not an actual sequel, does not mean they are not running the risk of watering down the franchise by releasing a new title every year. Guitar Hero has tons of spin-offs which are not actual sequels, and only a small handful of proper sequels.

They definitly run that risk, but i know i can approach this title expecting more or less the same game, hopefully in a way Rockstar did with the GTA franchise. I think the way Ubisoft is handling it right now is with every true sequel comes a new character, and everything in between is about the universe of the latest. Bloodlines and now Brotherhood.

And there should be a "don't" in my previous post.
