Images PC PS4 Xbox 360 PS3

While everyone is amazed at the Youtube quality of the first Battlefield 4 video, we can only propose 5 images of Dice's upcoming game. The single player campaign seems to be a tribute to all the modern warfare FPS releadsed in the past 6 years, but at least it looks impressive. The good thing with images is that they don't show the disappointing AI of the video, but stay tuned, we're doing our best to find it in GSY quality.

If you told me that was from the next Medal of Honor, I wouldn't be surprised. Anything new in gameplay? You can now mark enemies for your squaddies. Whoop dee doo. Oh and press F to cut off a leg. God, at least Bad Company had some identity.

Why fuck up your launch of a game with a component (single-player) that the majority of fans don't care for?

No wonder Rock Paper Shotgun and fans are a bit ticked off.

I think showing single player makes quite a bit of sense really. What element needs to convince people more then any other? People may buy some games predominantly for a certain aspect or mode. But when you know the other side of it is actually worth playing, it might actually get those people to give it a go. The reason no-one cared for BF3's single player, and most didn't play it was because it was shit, it was cookie cutter to the extreme, not even any interesting set pieces or characters. This seems to be rectifying that. The characters here seem to have personality, much like those seen in bad company, only it's wrapped in what looks to be a genuinely intense and exciting experience. We know MP will kick ass...BF's MP usually does, it has nothing to prove. Single player, however does...or should i say, did. This has made me want to actually play the single player component of a battlefield game. That's a first, and it's pretty significant given how i generally feel about the modern military themes.

Now just need launch day PS4 confirmation and i'm set.

I wasn't overly impressed by this. It looks just like BF3 on the PC, bar a couple of details. They've ramped certain effects up a notch or two, like that explosion that went up in a mushroom cloud. That was nice. However, the poly count on the major NPC's is insane. They've brought those up to a different level, and it shows in the faces and the animations that go with it. Seriously, Crytek talk the talk about how good their engine is, but those faces in that video are the best around. The girl at the end looked almost real, and I like the fact that the uniform meshes now have dynamic weights on them so they move about realistically. There is one other thing that was expected, and that is whenever I play BF3, one thing always stands out (it's understandable why it is though) and that is the water looks like shit. It's just a flat plane used since the dawn of time. It's terrible looking. In this, it's actually deforming with waves. Hopefully that translates into the multi-player too, because from the short clip seen of it, it looks fucking sweet.

If this is indeed a launch title for next gen with 64 players out of the box, then it's not a bad one to have, is it? That would prompt me to stomp up money for a console on launch.

Single player in BF is pointless. This didn't look bad, but that's not what I want BF for. Other than that, gfx looks stunning!

It's not really pointless if it entertains you for a couple of hours before you decide to jump into the MP. It's an added bonus if it's good.

@KORNdog:

I dunno, for me the intensity with these military shooters has really gotten ultra stale; the quick-time sequences & over blown set pieces just really don't do a whole lot for me anymore.

Yea, the "PRESS F TO CUT LEG", says it all.

What would it be other then a button press?, some back/forward sawing motion with your mouse? LMAO.

Actually, that is a far better alternative to simply "press F to cut leg". Why even have that there? Just get on with the cut scene (no pun intended) and be done with it. Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should. Something devs need to get into their head with these QTE bullshits.

Don't know but they used real actors' voice and face in BF3, like the actor in Homeland that plays Estes, so it's not surprising that they're using actors again.

The black guy from the BF4 gameplay vid definitely looks and sounds like Michael Kenneth Williams.

I think the idea was his leg was just mush due to being crushed. The knife was just freeing him from it. Bit like 127hours.

This is BF, it isn't a single player series no matter how much they try. Nobody buys a BF game for the SP. As far as the bonus goes, I'd rather have them use those resources to focus on MP.

I still think it's pointless even if it entertains you. That's not why I buy Battlefield games. It's not even a bonus since I will never play it. It's more of a waste of hard drive space.

Multiplayer is harder to demonstrate in front of a massive audience I think. I don't think EA is as stupid as we'd all like to believe. Hopefully DICE can start dropping some actual information about the game's design sooner than later. I frankly can't wait to start hearing from Demize99 again. In his absence there's no feeling that anyone is really steering the BF3 ship. Granted, that seemed to work out pretty well, as the DLC is quite good for the most part.

I'd disagree that it looks like Battlefield 4. Watching it in 1080p on youtube for the full 15 minutes or whatever, it clearly looks a lot better. BF3 is a pretty great looking game, but it's not mind blowing. It's also very static. This looks way more dynamic, and generally denser and more detailed. That counts for a lot in my opinion.

It looks a little better than BF3.. but the really stand-out things are facial/actor animations that would only ever be present in single player. I don't expect BF4 to look much better than 3 on ultra.

Not that I play on ultra.

It does in general. As you say, it's only in the smaller details where the difference become apparent. I already explained as much. This is the single player campaign, though. I play BF3 on ultra in MP and it doesn't look that much different to this. Obviously they've tweaked a few things like adding more lights for the fake GI, and as I say, that water and the fabric dynamics, but whether those things show up in MP is another matter.
