Xbox 360 PS3

Electronic Arts and DiCE surprised us today with the announcement of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to be released next winter along with Battlefield 1943, to be released this summer (XBLA/PSN), on PS3, 360 and PC. Not much more is known, but you'll still get to watch these screens and an annoucement trailer.

Press release:
Guildford, UK – February 5, 2009 – DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc studio (NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced the development of Battlefield: Bad Company 2™, the sequel to last year’s blockbuster title. In this installment, the Bad Company crew again find themselves in the heart of the action, where they must use every weapon and vehicle at their disposal to survive. The action unfolds with unprecedented intensity, introducing a level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game. To get ready for the assault this winter, players can prepare for action in Battlefield 1943™, an all-new multiplayer game available this summer via PlayStation®Store, Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace and on the PC.

In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the ‘B’ company fight their way through snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages. With a heavy arsenal of deadly weapons and a slew of vehicles to aid them, the crew set off on their mission and they are ready to blow up, shoot down, blast through, wipe out and utterly destroy anything that gets in their way. Total destruction is the name of the game, delivered as only the DICE next generation Frostbite™ engine can. Either online or offline, enemies will soon learn there is nowhere to hide. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the PC.

Using the same Frostbite™ engine, Battlefield 1943 takes players back to WWII. The game offers endless hours of 24 player multiplayer action over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Delivering the award-winning through-the-gun and vehicle warfare online experience DICE is best recognized for, Battlefield 1943 will have players battling in ruthless aerial dog fights and intense trench combat. Players can see the game in action at New York Comic Con (Booth #1441) from February 6th-8th.

“Bad Company 2 takes everything that players liked in the original and ups the ante – more vehicles, more destruction and more team play,” said Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer Battlefield Franchise, DICE. “Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic coming to life with brand new technology that we’re eager to get into players hands.”

Well if they dont fuck up the controls & aiming like in Bad Company, it might be awesome :D
Actually i just wish the guys behind Call of Duty would make a battlefield-style game, but we cant have everything.

Disappointment, 1943 is just some minigame. Pfff when they have BF3 to show I am more interested.

Bit disappointed. Seems like a small game 1943... Being sold through Xbox live and PSN.

So hopefully we will still see BF3 sometime :/

Is that screenshot of that snowy landscape meant to be of Bad Company 2? If so, that looks very pretty.

I'm looking forward to 1943 reimagining using the bad company engine. I just hope its not too expensive

LOL, what? Just because it has snow?...
Anyways, why's EA spamming with so many BF games (even one is free)? It makes the gamer community divided, and don't really know to what extend it maximizes their profit. Why not focus on making a stellar BF3 and sell perhaps millions?

Bit disappointed with this bf1943. I mean, it looks alright but not exactly stunning announcement.
And also, i understand the consoles, but does this make sense to release on the PC, given that they are releasing Heroes? Doesn't it somehow overlap?

hmm

That first screen is Mutiplayer so It's OUT and you picked one of the worst screens as your second. Surely you cant compare that to a doctored screen like the one posted here of BC2

i dont get where people are getting this idea from. a minigame? seriously?

1943 just sounds like exactly what it is, battlefield 1942 from the PC but on consoles...which imo sounds infinately better then a bad company sequel. 1942 was great on PC.

if it's cheap i'll probably get it.

BF1943 seems AMAZING. Loved BF1942 on PC, and this looks incredible for a downloadable game. I really did not expect anything like this.

This industry is in seriously bad shape with people whining about graphics as good as in these BF1943 shots, people whining about $15 dollar games that look and play better than games that cost $50 years ago, and whining that games aren't ported to a single platform.

I hope 43 is the 42 PC with better graphics and frostbite engine features. That means do not nerf the classes, do not nerf the voice commands etc.

NO unnecessary CONSOLIFICATION! Please.

Regardless, just compare the background of the second screen to the background in the BF:BC2 screen. The latter looks significantly better.

No reason to have the voice commands at all on consoles at least, as fun as it was to spam 'enemy submarine spotted' on landlocked maps. People use their own voice on console, and it would just take up space in a downloadable game.

No reason to nerf the gameplay, and I hope they do retain most if not all of the gameplay aspects of 1942.

Hmmm Battlefield BC 1 was an extremely good looking game, even with the huge maps it looked far better than lost planet so i don't really see why the sequel would look any worse.

Holy shit, just was looking around some other sites. You should see the PC gaming fools shitting up the thread about BF1943 on NeoGAF and bluesnews, especially before they learned it was coming to PC as well. PC gamers are clearly the cancer killing gaming. Seriously, all internet discussion boards would be better without them...

Calm down my friend. PC gamers have made gaming to what it is today. I am a PC gamer AND console gamer. What those people in those threads are trying to say: almost every game (like battlefield) started om the PC-platform, but now developpers are dissing the platform which made them to what they are today. See the terrible ports of GTAIV and Saint's Row, the bad port of FEAR 2, ...
Some franchises that started on PC are not coming out on PC anymore. That is what PC-gamers want to say: don't forget where you are coming from.
Former PC gamer myself, but the shit I've seen posted on forums lately drives me nuts. The developers aren't dissing PC at all, it's the reality of the state of gaming. I think many developers are giving the PC the benefit of the sales doubt, even now. Yet PC gamers still continue to act like they're owed something. In the real world, what platform a game or developer started means absolutely nothing at all. Even worse, when friggin pirates complain about stuff like this, and then even use that as an excuse to cause further harm to gaming. Then you have defensive PC-only gamers whining about a game being multiplatform, or bringing up crap like 'consolization' but they don't whine about how simple and derivative the gameplay is in something like Starcraft 2.

It just sickens me when something completely awesome and unexpected like BF1943 gets announced and PC gamers are filling threads with shit faster than anyone can express their excitement.

to be fair, Lost Planet is a very good looking game (even today) with excellent graphical effects. The effects in LP easily surpass what's shown here.

Gameplay... well that's another story.

PS. I liked the gameplay actually.
