Developer Diary Xbox 360 PS3

Blur certainly didn't convince many people at E3 and it's certainly why the developers at Bizarre Creations are doing this video where they explain to us why their game is different (and better) from the others.

This video feels a little desperate. So far... unconvinced... It seems to have less personality than split/second and seems a bit too much like Midnight Club but not as interesting to look at. The graphic design borders on dull and the styles of Bizarre's nicely-done icon work and the otherwise bland environments and shiny cars feel like they've been mashed together.

I think this looks quite good, if you don't take it too seriously it could be an absolute blast. Like Full Auto but made by a respectable developer ;)

I believe the visuals have been improved since we last saw it, but I don't care for the art direction and I'm still not sold on the gameplay. It looks really... Bland. And I used to think I would never say such a thing about a Bizarre racer :(

I even like the cars-with-weapons genre (although I prefer games that are more over the top, like Rollcage), but this just doesn't grab me at all.

Pretty sure they're licensed cars. I saw a BMW M3, Viper, Challenger & and the Ford Super Transit .

I'm leaving my options open on this one, simply based upon the 4 Gotham games and MSR.

Jesus, what an awfull video...I'm almost dizzy after that 'flash fest'. How about a bit less editing, and throw in a bit of footage that lasts longer than 0.25 sec. That was very unpleasant for the eyes! :|

The graphics in this game are seriously lacking, mainly due to the horrible art direction. 20 cars is nice though, but...I don't know...I'm just getting a Juiced meets Full Auto vibe here. And no, that's not a good thing.

Knew this would happen when Activision bought Bizarre. They just dropped PGR4 like an old rag and stopped supporting it. What's so special about this game? Damn, powerups, that's really something unique guys. Also tired of hearing 'fun' all the time. Doesn't look fun at all. Looks like shit. A poor man's Midnight Club/Burnout, and the graphics are ass. I first thought it was a Wii game.

Good thing we're not short on proper games this fall...

I'd rather make myself an anal-hair sandwich and chow down than play this, let alone buy it. Sorry, but PGR4 was the zenith as far as I am concerned...

The line between hit and miss when it comes to futuristic and combat racers has always been very narrow.

Combat racers almost always turn out to be a big letdown. I remember how good Full Auto looked and it got boring really fast. I don't think this nor split second look very good at all.

It's such a shame b/c I love the PGR games to death and still play PGR4 on a normal basis. I think PGR is what all arcade racers should strive to be, it's a real shame Bizarre lost sight of what they do best and got pushed into trying to come up with a new idea.

I really hope the new NFS game can give me a little PGR fix.

Definitely a day one purchase. Like Split/Second, Blur looks like the racing game Burnout Paradise should have been.

Unfortunately for Bizarre Creations, it looks like Black Rock Studios may have done a better job at taking the Burnout formula to the "next generation".

Even so, you have to like the combination of ground based racing, blended with a WipEout-style combat and power-up system. It's a combination that I have wanted someone to do well for two generations now, and so far Blur looks to be the best attempt at it to date.

Burnout 3 + WipEout XL = one of the best ideas for a racing game in over ten years. Let's just see if Bizarre can deliver on the goods.

Mario Kart is unfortunately, no where near as fun as my current love, WipEout HD. Or for that matter, as fun as Burnout 1 - 4. If Bizarre Creation can pull off a game that successfully merges the best bits from Burnout with the best bits from WipEout, I'm sold.

Barbie's Interactive Dreamhouse is also immensely popular and successful, that does not mean that it is actually worth shit.

Burnout Paradise, which I do own, is missing the heart of the Burnout feel that made Burnout 1 - 4 such awesome games. Paradise is a great accomplishment for a game, but you could have slapped any other name on the package, and no one would have mistook it for Burnout. Comparing Paradise to say Burnout 3: Takedown is like comparing Saints Row to GTA: San Andreas. Saints Row is fun, and I love it, and it encapsulates a lot of the surface bulletpoints that made San Andreas enjoyable. Yet it does not capture the heart and soul of the magic formula that made San Andreas a masterpiece. Burnout Paradise is simply missing the soul of Burnout, and while fun, feels largely like another game franchise altogether.

What Split/Second and Blur are attempting to do, is take the Burnout formula that made the original series so awesome, and port it into the current gen, with some obvious tweaks and surprise twists to the Burnout formula. Basically, it is what a significant portion of Burnout fans, myself included, were hoping Paradise would be.

Paradise is nice, but it simply does not feel like a Burnout game. It's pretty much Burnout in name only, and considering it was developed by Criterion, that comes off rather sad.

i think criterion are sometimes TOO eager to evolve and change their games. 1-3 in burnout they changed a lot of things, and it happened to be for the better, 4 added traffic checking which i did not like (well, not so much didnt like, more that i felt it was pointless and kinda messed up the formula) and paradise then went open world, which again, i did not like.

i loved the first 3 games becasue it was all about going as fast as you can avoiding traffic, as weird as this may sound, paradise made you think too much, it lost the purity of racing, and became as much about figuring out a route or not missing turns as it was about racing. and i did not like it becasue of that. what made burnout so great was the simplicity, and paradise messed with that

plus they took away crash mode which was retarded and replaced it with some good for nothing mode instead. not to mention the lack of split screen. paradise was a step backwards imo.

as swag said, if this can mix the track based gameplay of burnout, with the OTT fast paced combat of wipeout HD, then i'll be happy, but as of now, split/second looks to be doing more interesting things.

I completely agree with that. It really sucked out a lot of the fun that the previous titles had. Burnout 3 is definitely my favorite in the series.

I quite like this actually. It has that Death Race vibe I've been looking for. At moments it seemed like it could be extremely fun. The power-ups feel kinda old-school to me though... I'm hoping they can find another way to implement these moves into the game.

Any mention of Online? 20 players?
